TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2016 FORD F-350. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE BACKFIRED AS THE LOSS OF POWER WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE AND WAS COMPLETELY ENGULFED IN FLAMES WITHIN LESS THAN 5 MINUTES. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND FILED A FIRE REPORT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND DEEMED TOTALED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES BUT THE CONTACT RECEIVED SMOKE INHALATION TREATMENT FROM THE AMBULANCE ON SEEN. THE CONTACT HAD CONTACTED THE DEALER (KENDALL FORD OF MERIDIAN 250 E OVERLAND RD, MERIDIAN, ID 83642 (855) 982-8853) WHO STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO REGARDING THE SITUATION. Elpers Truck Equipment (Elpers) is recalling certain model year 2013-2016 Peterbilt 337, International 4300, 4400, Maxforce, Dodge 5500, and Ford F-450, and F-550 trucks manufactured April 4, 2013, to January 22, 2016 and equipped with IMT cranes, models 6000, 7500, 8600, 9500, 10000, 12000, and 14000. The affected cranes have a valve bank cover that may crack and fall from the crane while the crane is being transported.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the valve bank cover detaches from the crane it could be a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Elpers will notify owners, and dealers will replace the valve bank cover, with a thicker gauge cover, free of charge. The recall began on May 25, 2016. Owners may contact Elpers' customer service at 1-877-244-4596. Elpers' number for this recall is TB2016001 - IMT dist.
