THE DRIVE BELT DEVELOPED A DEEP GROOVE TO THE POINT OF NEARLY TEARING THROUGH ALONG THE ENTIRE LENGTH OF THE BELT DUE TO A ROCK BECOMING WEDGED BETWEEN THE FRONT PULLEY AND THE ENGINE CASE. THIS PROBLEM IS BEING REPORTED IN VERY HIGH NUMBERS ON FORUMS DEVOTED TO THIS MODEL MOTORCYCLE. ON ONE PARTICULAR FORUM, A POLL SHOWED THAT 29% OF OWNERS HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THEIR DRIVE BELT BECAUSE OF ROCK DAMAGE. TYPICALLY, MOTORCYCLE BELTS SHOULD LAST 50,000-100,000 MILES, MY BELT HAD TO BE REPLACED AFTER 7500 MILES. AN EXAMINATION OF THE BELT GUARD WILL DEMONSTRATE THAT THE BELT IS INSUFFICIENTLY PROTECTED FROM ROAD DEBRIS DURING OPERATION.

Ducati North America (Ducati) is recalling certain 2017-2020 Monster 797, Monster 1200, Supersport, 2016-2020 XDiavel, and 2018-2020 Monster 821 motorcycles. Air may permeate the rear brake system.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Air in the system may reduce effectiveness of the rear brakes, increasing the distance required to stop and the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will install new rear brake hoses, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on June 28, 2021. Owners may contact Ducati customer service at 1-888-391-5446.

21V085000 · Structure:motorcycle:kickstand/center Stand

Ducati North America (Ducati) is recalling certain 2016-2018 XDiavel S and XDiavel STD motorcycles. The side stand bracket may fatigue under load, resulting in failure of the side stand assembly and a potential for the motorcycle to fall when stationary on the stand.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A falling motorcycle can increase the risk of injury to persons nearby.

Remedy: Ducati will notify owners, and dealers will install a new side stand bracket, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin March 15 2021. Owners may contact Ducati customer service at 1-888-391-5446. Ducati's number for this recall is SRV-RCL-21-001.

Ducati North America (Ducati) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 XDiavel motorcycles manufactured July 7, 2015, to June 22, 2016. The side stand plate lower fastening screw on the affected motorcycles may not be sufficiently tightened, causing the stand to fail and the bike to fall. Additionally, during normal use on the road, the loosening of the lower screw could cause damage to the side stand sensor switch, causing the engine to stall.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the lower stand place screw becomes loose it can cause the bike to fall, or the engine to stall, increasing the risk of injury or a crash.

Remedy: Ducati will notify owners, and dealers will replace the side stand pivot and side stand plate fastening screw, free of charge. The recall began November 7, 2016. Owners may contact Ducati customer service at 1-800-231-6696. Ducati's number for this recall is RCL-16-003(B).

Ducati North America (Ducati) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Ducati XDiavel motorcycles manufactured July 7, 2015, to June 22, 2016. The affected motorcycles may have an insufficiently tightened final drive pulley retaining nut which may result in a loss of power transmission to the rear wheel.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A loss of power transmission to the rear wheel may increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Ducati will notify owners, and dealers will install a new washer under the final drive pulley retaining nut and increase the tightening torque, free of charge. The recall began on November 1, 2016. Owners may contact Ducati customer service at 1-800-231-6696. Ducati's number for this recall is RCL-16-003.

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this Preliminary Evaluation (PE) based on twenty-two (22) Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs) for soft rear brakes caused by air seeping into the rear brake lines of model year (MY) 2012-2020 Ducati Monster, Multistrada, SuperSport, Panigale, Scrambler and Diavel motorcycles.The consumers were alleging that the rear brakes would not properly function unless the rear brake pedal was applied several times or that there was a total loss of rear braking during normal applications, increasing the risk of a crash. In a March 2020 meeting, Ducati indicated that they were aware of certain models in which air may enter the motorcycles' rear braking system through the brake lines, due to exposure to heat from the exhaust system. Although this condition compromises rear braking performance, Ducati stated that they did not consider this to be a safety defect because the front and rear brake systems are hydraulically independent from each other, and a motorcycle's front brake system performs most of the stopping. Additionally, they believed that routine brake fluid replacement would resolve consumers' concerns, however complainants and dealership service technicians reported that, in some cases, after a dealer serviced the rear brake system, the rear brake pedal would feel soft and spongy again (indicating compromised brake performance) less than a year later--well before the recommended two-year brake fluid service interval. As a precaution, Ducati issued a series of technical service bulletins (TSBs) to replace the brake lines with redesigned ones, rerouting them away from the exhaust system.ODI's position is that all of the brakes on a motorcycle are considered necessary for safety.
