2007 DUCATI SPORT 1000S - GAS TANK HAS BEEN DEFORMED. IT NO LONGER SITS PROPERLY IN THE MOUNTING POINTS ON THE SIDE. IT HAS EXPANDED BEYOND THE POINT OF SITTING PROPERLY IN THE MOUNTING POINTS IN THE FRONT. THE TANK NOW RESTS UNSECURED ON THE FRAME AND WILL SHIFT AND TEETER FROM SIDE TO SIDE WHILE THE BIKE IS IN MOTION.

1- MOTORCYCLE UNDER NORMAL USAGE & CONDITIONS, PURCHASED NEW FROM DEALER. 2- AFTER 14 MONTHS OF OPERATION, A GAS TANK DEFORMATION (SPREADING) APPEARED, POSSIBLY FROM TANK MATERIAL REACTION TO CONTACT WITH GASOLINE. 3- THE GAS TANK HAS BEEN REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY BY DEALER, AND SENT BACK TO THE MANUFACTURER. IT SEEMS MANUFACTURER IS AWARE OF THE DEFECT AND IS WILLING TO COVER WHILE VEHICLE IS UNDER WARRANTY, BUT ONCE THE FACTORY WARRANTY EXPIRES, THE MANUFACTURER REFUSES TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE PART FREE OF CHARGE. ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, THE FASTENERS FROM THE FUEL LINE TO THE FUEL FILLER WERE NOT TIGHTENED PROPERLY. THE FUEL PUMP HOSE INSIDE THE FUEL TANK MAY SEPARATE FROM THE FUEL FILTER. THIS CONDITION WILL STOP THE ENGINE FROM RUNNING.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: IF THE ENGINE STOPPED WHILE THE MOTORCYCLE WAS BEING DRIVEN, IT COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP TO FUEL FILTER HOSE AND FASTENERS TO PREVENT THE ENGINE FROM STOPPING. THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 21, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DUCATI AT 1-800-424-9153.
