MY 2007 DUCATI S4RS MOTORCYCLE FUEL TANK SWELLED TO THE POINT IT WAS NOT RESTING SECURELY ON THE FRAME, THE BARS WOULD CONTACT IT BEFORE FULL LEFT OR RIGHT TURNING MOVEMENT, IT PUSHED AGAINST THE IGNITION SWITCH CAUSING THE FUEL TANK LATCH TO NOT ENGAGE, AND THE PAINT CRACKED OFF. DUCATI UNOFFICIALLY CLAIMS (LEARNED FROM MY DEALER) THAT ETHANOL IN AMERICAN GAS IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. I AM WORRIED ABOUT THE POTENTIAL FOR FUEL SEEPAGE AND FIRE ALONG WITH THE TANK BECOMING DISLODGED WHILE RIDING. *TR

MY MOTORCYCLE HAS A PLASTIC GAS TANK WHICH HAS BEGUN TO EXPAND. THE OUTSIDE DIMENSIONS OF THE TANK HAVE INCREASED AND IT NOW DOES NOT SIT CORRECTLY IN THE FRAME, THE HANDLEBARS HIT IT ON TURNING, AND IT PRESSES AGAINST THE IGNITION SWITCH. PREVIOUSLY IT OPENED AND CLOSED WITHOUT PROBLEMS, NOW I HAVE TO WEDGE IT AGAINST THE IGNITION SWITCH TO CLOSE IT. THE RUBBER MOUNTS NO LONGER SIT ON THE FRAME CORRECTLY. I HAVE NOT SIGNIFICANTLY MODIFIED MY MOTORCYCLE. I TOOK THE BIKE TO THE DEALER WHO SUBMITTED A CLAIM TO DUCATI NORTH AMERICA (THE IMPORTER/FACTORY) AND THEY REFUSED TO REPLACE THE TANK... I AM VERY CONCERNED AS TO THE SAFETY OF THIS MOTORCYCLE NOW. THE TANK'S SWELLING HAS MADE IT SO THE HANDLEBARS DO NOT TURN CORRECTLY. IF THE TANK SWELLS ENOUGH, IT WILL SPLIT OPEN AND I AM CONCERNED THIS WILL HAPPEN WHILE I AM RIDING. *TR

07V477000 · Engine And Engine Cooling

Oct 11, 2007

ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, THE WATER IMPELLER DOES NOT TURN DUE TO THE INSTALLATION OF AN INCORRECT LAYSHAFT. IMPROPER OPERATION OF THE WATER PUMP COULD OCCUR CAUSING OVERHEATING OF THE ENGINE COMPONENTS AND POSSIBLY ENGINE SEIZURE.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: IF THE ENGINE STOPPED WHILE THE MOTORCYCLE WAS BEING DRIVEN, IT COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL CHECK THE WATER PUMP FOR PROPER OPERATION AND WILL REPLACE IT IF NECESSARY FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 14, 2007. OWNER MAY CONTACT DUCATI AT 408-253-0499.

PE10045 · Fuel Leak At Pump/tank Interface

Opened Nov 4, 2010 · Closed Feb 28, 2011

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Fuel System, Gasoline:storage:tank Assembly

After opening this PE, we met with subject owners, dealers, and Ducati North America personnel. We learned that the subject leakage is limited to the Multistrada line alone and is unrelated to composite fuel tank deformation.Rather it stems from the inability of the original sealing O-ring to conform to the tank's relatively rough sealing surface.Recall 11V-020 provides a new X section O-ring to address the Multistrada issue and with that recall, this PE is closed for the Multistrada.Meanwhile, unlike the Multistrada, the Monster line fails to exhibit a current safety defect trend and, on that basis, this PE is closed for those models as well.
