TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 DUCATI MH900. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RIGHT KNUCKLE ON THE HANDLE BAR WAS CRACKED AND FAILED. THE CONTACT REFERRED TO THE FAILURE AS A "STRESS FRACTURE" AND DUE TO POOR DESIGN. THE CONTACT HAD THE OTHER SIDE TESTED BECAUSE IT WAS BEGINNING TO WEAR HEAVILY. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY EMAILED THE REPRESENTATIVES. HE WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS OR SERVICE BULLETINS ON THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER TESTED THE OTHER SIDE. THE REPRESENTATIVE STATED THAT IT APPEARED AS IF HE NEEDED ANOTHER HANDLE BAR. NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE PURCHASE DATE, ENGINE SIZE, NUMBER OF CYLINDERS, AND POWERTRAIN WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 6,526.

02V011000 · Fuel System, Gasoline:delivery

ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, FUEL CAN LEAK FROM THE FUEL PUMP FLANGE.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: FUEL LEAKAGE IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE CAN RESULT IN A FIRE.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL SPACERS BETWEEN THE FUEL PUMP FLANGE AND THE FUEL TANK, AND WILL ALSO REPLACE THE FLANGE GASKET IF IT IS DAMAGED. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT DUCATI AT 1-973-839-2600.
