The contact owns a 2019 Forest River Freedom Express RV. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the contact noticed that the RV was leaning abnormally. The contact owns a 2019 Forest River Freedom Express RV. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the contact noticed that the RV was leaning abnormally. The contact pulled over into a park lot, inspected the vehicle but could not determined the cause of the issue. Upon arriving to the residence and inspecting underneath the RV, the contact noticed that both left springs were hanging on the front driver-side and passenger-side of the RV, and the whole rear axle had detached from trailer. The RV was taken independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the frame had failed and needed to be replaced. The RV was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but denied assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.

Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2019 Coachmen Freedom Express recreational trailers. The break-away safety switch was not wired to a constant power source, and, as a result, the switch may be inadvertently disconnected from the trailer house battery and cause the brakes to not engage if the trailer detaches from the tow vehicle.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the trailer brakes cannot engage if the trailer detaches from tow vehicle, there would be an increased risk of a crash.

Remedy: Forest River has notified owners, and dealers will correct the break-away safety switch wiring, free of charge. The recall began September 11, 2018. Owners may contact Coachmen Freedom Express customer service at 1-574-825-8657. Forest River's number for this recall is 220/320-0825.
