A DENT THAT IS LOCATED NEAR HINGE OF DRIVER'S DOOR HAS CAUSED DOOR NOT TO OPEN OR CLOSE. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS.*AK
DRIVER'S DOOR UPPER HINGES WELD ARE BROKEN AND CAUSING DOOR TO DROP AND UNABLE TO CLOSE PROPERLY. MANUFACTURER NOTIFIED, AND INFORMED CONSUMER THAT VEHICLE WAS OUTSIDE ITS WARRANTY, AND ANY REPAIRS WOULD BE AT CONSUMER'S COST. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS ON THIS MATTER. *AK
THE METAL TO WHICH THE DOOR HINGES ARE ATTACHED TORE, CAUSING THE HINGE TO BREAK AND THE DOOR TO DROP AND WHEN THE DOOR WAS OPENED IT SERIOUSLY DAMAGED THE FRONT FENDER. IT IS MY SUSPICION THAT THE DOOR METAL IS TOO THIN.*AK
THE GENTELMAN WHO GAVE THE ESTIMATE SAID THE HINGES WERE NOT STRONG ENOUGH FOR THE DOOR WHEN MANUFACTURED.
LOWER HINGE MOUNT ON DOOR, WELD FAILED AND SEPARATED. THIS ALLOWS DOOR TO DROOP, WILL NOT FULLY OPEN OR CLOSE PROPERLY, AND DAMAGES AREA WHERE DOOR MEETS FRONT QUARTER PANEL. ALSO DOOR IS SUPPORTED ONLY BY TOP HINGE, WHICH WHEN THIS FAILS, CAR DOOR WOULD COME OFF. *AK
CONSUMER HAD TO REPLACE THE SERPENTINE BELT THREE TIMES. ALSO, DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR HAD TO BE PUT BACK ON THE TRACK BECAUSE NUTS : BOLTS WERE DEFECTIVE, TRANSMISSION JERKED WHEN PUT IN GEAR. *AK

SACKEY SUBMITTED A PETITION TO THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION (NHTSA) BY LETTER DATED APRIL 18, 2003, REQUESTING THAT NHTSAFURTHER INVESTIGATE THE DEFECTIVE COLLAPSIBLE STEERING SHAFT SYSTEM ON 1987-1995 VEHICLES MANUFACTURED BY THE DAIMLERCHRYSLER CORPORATION.IN PART BECAUSE OF 49 CFR ? 30120(G), NHTSA HAS DECIDED TO LIMIT THE SCOPE OF THE PETITION VEHICLES TO 1993-1995 MODELS, EXCLUDING THE 1993 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE AND 1994-1995 DODGE RAM SERIES TRUCKS THAT WERE RECALLED (93V210 & 96V230) FOR STEERING COLUMN FAILURE.IF THE ANALYSIS OF THESE VEHICLES HAD IDENTIFIED A POTENTIAL PROBLEM, THE SCOPE COULD HAVE BEEN EXPANDED IN AN INVESTIGATION.A REVIEW OF ODI'S DATA BASE SHOWS NO RECENT COMPLAINTS AND A LACK OF A COMPLAINT TREND CONCERNING THE SUBJECT ISSUE ON THE SUBJECT VEHICLES AS A WHOLE OR BY INDIVIDUAL MODELS.THEREFORE, THE PETITION IS DENIED.FOR DETAILS, SEE FEDERAL REGISTER NOTICE VOLUME 68, NO. 130, JULY 8, 2003.
