TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHRYSLER 300M. THE VEHICLE WOULD INTERMITTENTLY STALL WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNINGS. AS A CONSEQUENCE HIS RISK FOR A VEHICLE CRASH WAS INCREASED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE CAM SHAFT ALONG WITH THE CRANK-SHAFT POSITION SENSORS WERE REPLACED. TWO DAYS AFTER THE REPAIR THE FAILURE RESURFACED. THE INTERIOR LIGHTS ALSO FLICKERED ON AND THEN OFF AND THE STEERING COLUMN BEGAN TO VIBRATE VIOLENTLY. NONE OF THE REPAIRS HAVE REMEDIED THE FAILURES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 84,000.

ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, AN INTERNAL HOOD LATCH COMPONENT MAY HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED WITH A CRACK, WHICH COULD PROPAGATE AND BREAK, ALLOWING THE PRIMARY/SECONDARY LATCH SPRING TO DISENGAGE.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: THIS COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF BOTH PRIMARY AND SECONDARY HOOD LATCH FUNCTION, ALLOWING THE HOOD TO OPEN WITHOUT WARNING. THIS COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THE LATCH ASSEMBLY. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 22, 2003. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT DAIMLERCHRYSLER AT 1-800-992-1997.
