As I was driving my car felt like if it went on neutral. I almost crashed. Stopped. Then it would not come off of park. I kept putting it on drive and it automatically kept going into park mode. The car was still running though. And turns on. It still wont drive. Turns on but doesn't go onto drive mode.

THAT DAY I TOOK MY CAR INTO DISCOUNT TIRES WHERE I WAS TOLD I HAD 5/32 THREAD WHICH IS FAIRLY GOOD I STILL WENT AHEAD AND GOT NEW TIRES BUT STILL FELT LIKE MY TIRES WAS NOT MOVING LIKE IT SHOULD. I THEN TOOK IT INTO A MECHANIC SHOP WHICH WAS MONTES CAR SHOP IN NORTH MPLS WE DID A TEST DRIVE AND REALIZED MY FRONT WHEELS WERE NOT ENGAGING THE ONLY TIRES THAT WERE SPINNING WAS THE BACK WHEELS. SO AT THAT POINT THEY RAN A ABS DIAGNOSTIC THERE WERE CODES NO SHOWING REGARDING MY AWD AT ALL, SO THEY DID A FULL INSPECTION AND STATED IT WAS A BLOWN MINI FUSE THAT OPERATES THE FRONT DIFF ACTUATOR AND REPLACED IT. I'VE DRIVEN THE CAR AND I AM NOT SURE IF THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN FIXED NOT ONLY THAT THE CAR IS NOT GIVING OFF ANY SENSORS OR CODES REGARDING MY AWD NOT WORKING WHICH IS VERY DANGEROUS AND LIFE THREATENING THERE SHOULD BE SOME WAY FOR THE CAR TO HAVE SENSORS NOTIFYING ME THE MY ALL WHEEL DRIVE IS NOT WORKING OR ENGAGING.

I BOUGHT GOODYEAR TIRES AT A DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID THEY HAD TO ORDER THEM FROM CHRYSLER. THE DEALERSHIP HAD TO BALANCE THE TIRES 3 TIMES. I WAS WITHOUT MY CAR FOR 5 DAYS, BUT THEY DID PROVIDE A RENTAL. I WAS CALLED TO DRIVE THE CAR TUESDAY WITH THE HEAD MECHANIC, AND THE FRONT RIGHT SIDE WAS STILL WOBBLY. THE MECHANIC SAID IT WAS THE TIRES BECAUSE THEY WERE GOODYEAR AND NOT MICHELIN'S (THAT'S WHAT WAS ON THE CAR ORIGINALLY). I TOLD THE DEALERSHIP THAT I WAS NOT HAPPY WITH THE RIDE OF THE TIRES AND I WANTED TO PAY THE DIFFERENCE AND GET THE MICHELIN TIRES. I WAS TOLD TODAY THAT THEY (DEALERSHIP) CONTACTED CHRYSLER AND THEY SAID NO, THEY WILL NOT TAKE THE TIRES BACK. I HAVE ONLY DRIVEN ON THE TIRES 3 TIMES, ONCE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AFTER THEY PUT THE TIRES ON. THE SECOND TIME I DROVE HOME AFTER THE SECOND BALANCING WASN'T CORRECT, AND THE THIRD TIME, BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. I FEEL THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS THAT CHRYSLER WON'T TAKE THESE BAD TIRES BACK. THEY SHOULDN'T EVEN SELL THESE! I'VE NOTICED THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS TIRE WHICH INCLUDES THE SAME THING I'M COMPLAINING ABOUT, WOBBLING. I ONCE WORKED FOR CHRYSLER AND I AM ALSO GOING TO CONTACT SOMEONE AT CHRYSLER HEADQUARTERS. I WOULD DEFINITELY LIKE A RESPONSE TO THIS COMPLAINT! I BOUGHT THE TIRES ON APRIL 30, 2019, TOOK MY CAR BACK THE SAME DAY, TOOK IT IN ON FRIDAY, MAY 2, 2019, AND NOW PICKING IT UP TODAY, MAY 9, 2019.

EA21002 · Desiccated Air Bag Inflator Rupture

Opened Sep 17, 2021 · No close date supplied

Status: open (inferred from source dates) · Air Bags:frontal:driver Side:inflator Module; Air Bags:frontal:passenger Side:inflator Module

From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 Blomquist Report at www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in US vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced. In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004L that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All Takata inflators produced with propellant 2004L contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated PSAN inflators. It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- Takata (now known as TK Global), the Independent Testing Coalition, and Exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of Takata desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004L (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004L is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L.The Office of Defects Investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated PSAN frontal inflators manufactured by Takata. This investigation will require extensive information on Takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated PSAN inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.gov/recalls?nhtsaId=EA21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds). This investigation does not supersede EA15-001, which remains open.

Opened Feb 3, 2016 · Closed Jun 24, 2016

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Power Train:automatic Transmission:gear Position Indication (prndl)

On April 22, 2016, Fiat Chrysler Automotive US LLC, (FCA) submitted a Defect Information Report (DIR) to NHTSA regarding a defect that could result in unattended vehicle rollaway with the engine running in approximately 811,586 model year (MY) 2012 to 2014 Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 vehicles and MY 2014 to 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles equipped with 8-speed transmissions and a monostable gear selector (NHTSA Recall #16V-240, FCA Recall #S27). According to FCA's DIR, The existing strategies built into these vehicles to deter drivers from exiting the vehicle after failing to put the transmission into PARK have not stopped some from doing so. Drivers erroneously concluding that their vehicle's transmission is in the PARK position may be struck by the vehicle and injured if they attempt to get out of the vehicle while the engine is running and the parking brake is not engaged. The vehicles recalled by FCA are equipped with Monostable electronic (shift-by-wire) gearshift assemblies supplied by ZF Group (see Figure 1).The subject Monostable shifter has a single neutral position that it snaps back to when the driver releases the shift knob.Although the Monostable gearshift has the familiar appearance of a conventional console mechanical gearshift assembly, it has an unfamiliar movement that does not provide the tactile or visual feedback that drivers are accustomed to receiving from conventional shifters.Consequently, the driver must take additional time to verify that the desired gear position was achieved by checking the PRNDL display on the shift knob or the Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) display.
