The vehicle was involved in a frontal collision with a light pole at an estimated speed of approximately 30–40 mph. Despite the severity and frontal nature of the impact, the driver-side steering wheel airbag did not deploy. To my knowledge, no airbags deployed. The vehicle/component may be available for inspection upon request. The lack of airbag deployment may have increased the risk of injury to the driver. The driver sustained four broken ribs and a fractured back in the crash, and there was also concern that the driver may have struck the throat/neck area on the steering wheel. The airbag issue has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. Police responded to the crash and saw the vehicle. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by insurance representatives, and I am not aware of any inspection by the vehicle manufacturer regarding the airbag non-deployment. I do not know whether there were any airbag warning lights, warning messages, or other symptoms related to the airbag system before the crash. The police report indicates a non-fatal injury with same-day hospital release. However, the driver was actually transferred to another hospital out of state and remained hospitalized for approximately six additional days due to injuries sustained in the crash, including four broken ribs and a fractured back. The responding officer may not have been aware of the subsequent transfer and hospitalization at the time the police report was completed.

It hit another car and a telephone pole before jumping the curb and landing in a field. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY ON ANY PARTS OF THE TRUCK THAT WAS IMPACTED BY THE WRECK. Both sides of the truck are completely smashed in and both windshields have been busted out. My husband actually came of the windshield of the truck where the Airbag should have deployed.

While driving home from work, while braking for a stoplight, the brake pedal suddenly went soft. Using an abundance of caution, i drove slowly home, though pumping brakes was required even when driving 5 mph. When i made it home, it was obvious there had been a catastrophic brake line failure, as fluid trailed across my driveway and pooled under my truck. On closer inspection, it's amazing how corroded all visible brake lines were. This failure could have happened at speed and would likely have resulted in a crash. I am appalled these have not been recalled.

ODI OPENED PE03-057 TO ASSESS PARKING BRAKE INEFFECTIVENESS IN THE SUBJECT VEHICLES.THESE VEHICLES ARE EQUIPPED WITH FOUR WHEEL DISC BRAKES THAT INCORPORATE A SINGLE-SHOE DRUM-IN-HAT PARKING BRAKE INDEPENDENT OF THE SERVICE BRAKES.COMPLAINT AND WARRANTY DATA INDICATE THAT THE PARKING BRAKE LININGS TEND TO WEAR OUT EARLY IN THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE (AT AN AVERAGE OF 24 MONTHS IN SERVICE), REDUCING THE PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM'S TORQUE BELOW THAT NEEDED TO IMMOBILIZE THE VEHICLE.GM HAS ATTRIBUTED THIS ACCELERATED WEAR TO FOREIGN MATERIAL INTRUSION AND A FAILURE OF THE BRAKE SHOE TO PROPERLY SELF-CENTER WITHIN ITS BRAKE DRUM.EFFECTIVE WITH THE START OF MY 2003 PRODUCTION, A NEWER REDUCED FORCE HOLD-DOWN CLIP WAS INTRODUCED TO FACILITATE BRAKE SHOE DISENGAGEMENT FROM THE DRUM SURFACE.THIS PART IS ALSO AVAILABLE AT THE SERVICE LEVEL FOR THE MY 1999-2002 VEHICLES.GM HAS INDICATED THAT THE PAKING BRAKE IS INTENDED TO OPERATE IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE TRANSMISSION TO IMMOBILZE PARKED VEHICLES, AND THAT IN MANY CASES, ACCELERATED PARKING BRAKE LINING WEAR IS CAUSED BY ROUGH USE, VEHICLE MODIFICATIONS, AND DRIVING WITH THE PARKING ENGAGED. ODI HAS UPGRADED THE PRELIMINARY EVALUATION TO AN ENGINEERING ANALYSIS TO GATHER FURTHER INFORMATION CONCERNING PARKING BRAKE USAGE FACTORS AND THE CIRCUMSTANCES SURROUNDING THE SEVENTEEN REPORTED VEHICLE CRASHES.
