AS I WAS DRIVING, I SLOWED TO MAKE A LEFT- TURN ONTO A CITY STREET WHEN THERE WAS A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING. IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER BUT I MADE IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE DID NOT LOSE POWER OR SHUT OFF. THE MESSAGE SAID THERE WAS A LOSS IN POWER STEERING AND TO SEEK SERVICE. I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. UPON RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE DROVE NORMAL. I DROVE ABOUT 20 MILES. I WAS ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY IN HEAVIER TRAFFIC, ON A STRAIGHAWAY BUT AGAIN WAS SLOWING DOWN WHEN THERE WAS ANOTHER SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING. I STRUGGLED TO MAKE IT INTO A PARKING LOT. THE ISSUE DID NOT IMMEDIATELY RESET AS BEFORE. I SAT FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES AND TRIED IT 3 OR 4 TIMES BUT IT CONTINUED TO GIVE THE MESSAGE THAT THE THERE WAS A LOSS IN POWER STEERING. IT FINALLY "RESET" . I DROVE IT TO A NEARBY FAMILY MEMBERS HOUSE UNTIL I COULD GET IT TO THE CHEVROLET DEALER MONDAY MORNING. I SAW ONLINE WHERE THERE IS A RECALL 2015 CHEVY COLORADO FOR POWER STEERING ISSUE. UNFORTUNATELY, THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT MY 2015 CHEVY COLORADO WAS NOT UNDER RECALL BECAUSE IT WAS NOT WITHIN IN THE RECALL MANUFACTURED DATES BETWEEN JAN AND MARCH. THEY INSISTED I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $139.00 IN ORDER TO GET MY VEHICLE DIAGNOSED. I DID NOT HAVE THE FUNDS TO GET THE VEHICLE ASSESSED BUT AM CONVINCED THE NHTSA NEEDS TO CONSIDER EXPANDING THE RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD. ADDITIONALLY, I CONTACTED GM FOR REDRESS. AGAIN, THEY INSISTED I WOULD BE REQUIRED TO PAY $139.00 DIAGNOSIS FEE BEFORE THEY COULD ASSESS THIS IDENTICAL SAFETY RECALL ISSUE.

15V267000 · Seats

May 8, 2015

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon trucks manufactured January 6, 2014, to April 1, 2015. In the affected vehicles, the hooks that secure the driver's and/or front passenger's seat frame may not have been properly attached to the vehicle body during assembly. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 207, "Seating Systems."

15V157000 · Air Bags:frontal:driver Side:inflator Module

Mar 18, 2015

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015 Chevrolet Colorado vehicles manufactured September 15, 2014, to January 21, 2015, and 2015 GMC Canyon vehicles manufactured October 3, 2014, to December 9, 2014. The affected vehicles have a front driver air bag inflator that may be misaligned to the air bag module backplate. This can cause the inflator to separate from the backplate during a deployment.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the inflator separates from the back plate in the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, this may cause the air bag or steering wheel components to separate and be propelled into the interior compartment, potentially seriously injuring the driver or other occupants. Additionally, the air bag may fail to properly inflate, increasing the risk of injury to the driver.

Remedy: GM has notified owners, and dealers will inspect the driver air bag module inflator for proper alignment, replacing the air bag, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began March 19, 2015. In May 2019 the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened a Recall Query (RQ19-001) to assess the scope of General Motors (GM) recall 16V-054. ODI had received 50 complaints with allegations of loss of electric power steering assist while the vehicle was in motion. These complaints were for vehicles outside the scope of recall 16V-054 yet exhibited the same symptoms.ODI?s review focused on specific build months outside the recall scope that had a high electric power steering failure rate and failures that were the same or similar to those addressed by the remedy associated with recall 16V-054. ODI?s review of data supplied by GM confirmed a high failure rate for vehicles outside of the recall scope. On March 25, 2021, GM filed a defect information report recalling select 2015 Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon vehicles to remedy a potential loss of power steering assist while driving. The recall (21V-213) includes vehicles that were not addressed by recall 16V-054 and also prompted this recall query. In view of the recall, ODI is closing this recall query. Despite closing this investigation, NHTSA reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. The ODI complaints cited above can be viewed at www.nhtsa.gov under the following ODI identification numbers in a separate attachment. ?
