TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 CHEVROLET AVALANCHE 1500. THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE FAILURE, BUT IT RECURRED THE FOLLOWING YEAR. THE FAILURE WAS REPAIRED A SECOND TIME. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER REPEATEDLY TO HAVE THE AIR BAG FAILURE REPAIRED. HE ALSO STATED THAT THE FRONT SEATS WERE MAKING STRANGE NOISES. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TWICE TO HAVE THE SEATS REPAIRED. THE TRANSMISSION ALSO NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG FAILURE WAS A SAFETY HAZARD. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,235 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 45,000. UPDATED 10/03/08 *BF THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT MOVE IN FORWARD GEAR. THE DEALER FOUND THE SPRAG BROKE AND THE CLUTCHES WERE BURNT. THE FRONT DOOR SPEAKER MADE A BUZZING NOISE. THE DEALER STATED IT WAS AN INTERNAL FAILURE. UPDATED 10/06/08. *JB

06V289000 · Engine And Engine Cooling

ON CERTAIN TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH AN 8.1L V8 (RPO L8-VIN G) ENGINE HAVE A CONDITION IN WHICH THE ENGINE FUEL RAIL PULSE DAMPER RETAINER CLIP MAY FRACTURE RESULTING IN INADEQUATE RETENTION OF THE DAMPER.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: IF THE DAMPER COMES LOOSE, A FUEL LEAK MAY RESULT. FUEL LEAKAGE, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE ENGINE FUEL RAIL PULSE DAMPER RETAINER CLIP FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 31, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHEVROLET AT 1-800-630-2438 AND GMC TRUCKS AT 1-866-996-9463.
