The contact owns a 2025 BMW M 1000 XR. The contact stated that after parking the motorcycle during a trip, the contact became aware that the factory carbon fiber wheels were cracked. The selling dealer and the local dealer were contacted. The motorcycle was towed to the local dealer, where the wheels were inspected, and the failure was confirmed. The wheels were replaced at the owner's expense despite a warranty on the motorcycle. Additionally, the contact stated that prior to the trip, new tires were installed on the motorcycle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was 2,100.
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2024-2025 M 1000 XR, and M 1000 R motorcycles. The steering damper may have a loose valve pin within the housing, which can cause an unexpected increase in steering effort.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: An unexpected increase in steering effort can result in a loss of control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the steering damper, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 5, 2025. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.
