I am writing to you about the current recall you have on the airbags for this car. I spoke today with BMW USA Consumer Relations and they tell me that it may be weeks or months until the replacement airbags are available. I am very worried about driving a car for so long where the airbags are not reliable. I am surprised that BMW is allowed to have me wait for months for a replacement of as vital a safety feature as driver airbags. In the meantime, I cannot sell the car, I cannot purchase the lease as there is a recall. Plus BMW refuses to allow me to end the lease. I hope you will consider making this a 'do not drive' recall instead of putting drivers of this very expensive car at risk for so many weeks. Thanks for your attention to this request.

My BMW IX accelerates on its own without me pushing the pedal. It happens randomly and without warning. Sometimes it happens as I am taking off from a traffic light or a stop sign. I barely push the accelerator to start going and the car all of a sudden accelerates rapidly. I take my foot off the accelerator but it still continues to accelerate. Braking stops it. As it happens randomly, I sincerely doubt the dealership can reproduce this by a test drive. I think it is a software problem and a dangerous one at that. I can imagine that this could lead to disastrous consequences. I have been reading online that it has happened to other BMW IX drivers as well. I hope they have also reported this to NHTSA. It just happened to me today (3/16/2023) again and has happened to me at least in two other instances.

The Icon Adaptive Led headlights w/Laserlight are designed so that the high beam tracks (aims) to steering wheel inputs, and possibly camera inputs, in order to illuminate the road ahead. The center of the beam is focused more tightly than is generally done with headlights which have illumination fixed to the centerline of the car. This feature is described on page 160 of the operating manual, and is the same as the exactly comparable headlights on my 2020 BMW M340i, which I also own. The car has been at the dealership for the past 11 days due to a separate safety recall, and the car has received all current software updates. Despite this, the "adaptive" headlights illumination is still fixed to the centerline of the car. I am informed by the dealership that other iX models with the same lighting option behave similarly, this is not a defect affecting only my particular vehicle. The vehicle's diagnostics have not indicated any headlight fault. This is a significant safety matter, because the brighter focused portion high beam light output is only quite rarely actually aimed at the road surface. A broader beam pattern would be appropriate, were these intended to be fixed rather than adaptive headlights. And this is completely at odds with all other recent BMW models with the Icon Adaptive LED headlights w/Laserlight.

My 1 week old iX had an unfortunate accident. I was backing it into the garage using the Recorded Path. This path has been used successfully multiple times since I got the car. Yesterday, while the car was steering into the garage, instead of steering onto the garage, it backed up straight into the wall opening, damaging the rear bumper and the garage wall. The garage wall moved in about 2-3 inches rendering the garage door inoperable. The CAR SENSORS DIDN’T STOP THE CAR although it was very clear it was heading for an obstacle, THE HOUSE WALL. Initially, I didn’t realize the magnitude of the damage, I drove the car forward, repositioned it and re-engaged the recorded path back up maneuverb, which the car carried our successfully this second time. It’s when I exited I realized the magnitude of the damage to the car and house. The sensors on the car did not stop the car nor did they alert. Any one experienced this problem. This maneuver doesn't required driver attention since it is meant to be operated remotely from the My BMW app. However, in this incident I was in the vehicle and ass attentive as I could. The car back up so fast to be stopped and there were no warnings. The vehicle has a drive recorder but I do not know if it records these incidents and where it captured it. I filed a report with USAA both for vehicle and home damage.
