The vehicle has been displaying a transmission error code related to the shift pedal; however, no corresponding error message appears on the dashboard. This lack of clear diagnostic messaging significantly complicates the identification and resolution of the issue. The situation escalates in severity as the transmission malfunction light intermittently illuminates while driving. This behavior is alarming, as it poses a serious safety risk. The malfunction light often appears during traffic, raising concerns about the potential for stalling while the vehicle is in motion. Such an occurrence could lead to hazardous conditions for both the driver and surrounding traffic. I strongly urge the appropriate department to address this matter immediately. Given the critical nature of the transmission system, any malfunctions must be treated as safety-related defects. The contact stated while driving at approximately 40 MPH she was hearing an abnormal buzzing sound coming from the dashboard vents. The contact stated that she was also observing white smoke emitted from under the hood. The contact stated that no warning lights were illuminated. The contact owns a 2014 BMW 528I. The contact stated that the low coolant indicator, "Engine temperature high" and "Coolant running low" messages were displayed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that coolant fluid was leaking out of the engine after being added. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the auxiliary radiator, thermostat, auxiliary hose, and battery were all replaced. Despite the repair, the messages returned on the instrument panel. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V608000 (Engine and Engine Cooling, Electrical System) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 113,000. An improperly sealed electrical connector on the water pump may be exposed to water and short circuit.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: An electrical short increases the risk of a fire.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect and replace the water pump and plug connector as necessary, and install a protective shield, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on March 28, 2025. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2015 6 Series Gran Coupe, 2014 5 Series Gran Turismo, 2014 5 Series Sedan, 2015 6 Series Convertible, 2015 6 Series Coupe, 2014 X5, 2013-2014 X3, 2014-2015 3 Series Sedan, 2014 4 Series Coupe, 2014 4 Series Convertible, 2014 3 Series Gran Turismo, and 2015 4 Series Gran Coupe vehicles. Please see the recall report for the complete list of models. The driver's air bag inflator may explode during deployment, due to a manufacturing defect.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants, increasing the risk of injury or death.

Remedy: The driver's front air bag will be replaced, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 6, 2024. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain model year 2013 528i, 528i xDrive, 535i, 535i xDrive, 550i, 550i xDrive, and ActiveHybrid 5 vehicles. The rear reflex reflectors may not reflect enough light. As such, the vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: The vehicle may be less visible to other vehicles, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: BMW will notify owners, and dealers will replace the rear reflex reflectors, free of charge. The recall began July 28, 2017. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants.
