The contact owns a 2024 Audi A6. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle had experienced phantom braking, causing the vehicle to violently and abruptly stop in the middle of the road. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on several occasions, including while making a left turn in the middle of an intersection, and once while making a left-hand turn into the driveway. Additionally, on one occasion, the failure occurred and almost caused a second vehicle to crash into the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer on several occasions, but the cause of the failure was not yet determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 36,000.

The contact owns a 2024 Audi A6. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle suddenly came to an abrupt stop. The contact stated that everything turned off except for the instrument panel, which displayed an accident warning light. The vehicle was not in a crash, but all the features became inoperable. The vehicle was able to be restarted and driven. The dealer was notified of the failure and acknowledge the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 34,034.
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Audi) is recalling certain 2019-2026 vehicles. Please see the recall report for a complete list of models. A software error may prevent the rearview camera image from displaying as intended. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A rearview image that does not display reduces the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will update the software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 14, 2026. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834. Audi's number for this recall is 90TV. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on December 23, 2025.
