TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 APRILIA RSV 1000. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT AT LOW SPEEDS, THE REAR SUSPENSION FAILS AND THE REAR TIRE LOCKS AND SLIDES UNDER THE SEAT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 APRILIA RSV 1000. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT AT LOW SPEEDS, THE REAR SUSPENSION FAILS AND THE REAR TIRE LOCKS AND SLIDES UNDER THE SEAT. THIS CAUSES THE DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. HE FELT THAT CERTAIN ALUMINUM PARTS SHOULD BE STEEL AND WAS DUE TO A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THERE HAD BEEN NO FAILURE TO DATE. A COPY OF THE RECALL WAS FAXED TO THE DEALER, HOWEVER; THEY HAD NOT CONTACTED HIM BACK. THE MOTORCYCLE WAS HIS ONLY TRANSPORTATION THEREFORE HE WAS UNABLE TO LEAVE THE MOTORCYCLE WITH THE DEALER FOR THEM TO ORDER THE PART. THERE WAS NO FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 15,000.

ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, WHILE IN USE THE SWING ARM COMPONENT MAY DEVELOP A STRESS FRACTURE OVER AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: IF NOT REPLACED THIS WILL INCREASE THE RISK OF PERSONAL INJURIES OR DEATH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE SWING ARM COMPONENT. THE RECALL BEGAN IN SEPTEMBER 2006. OWNERS WHO HAVE NOT HAD THEIR MOTORCYCLE REPAIRED WILL BE RENOTIFIED OF THIS RECALL DURING AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT APRILIA AT 770-592-2261.
