2023 Airstream Flying Cloud

This complaint concerns an immediate, systemic electrical fire hazard introduced by Airstream of Tampa through their dealer-installed Titanium solar package on my 2023 Airstream RV. Service technicians mounted a high-output Victron MultiPlus-II 12/3000/120-50 (3,000-watt) inverter/charger improperly inside an enclosed, unvented wooden cabinet. The unit's primary cooling exhaust rests directly flush against a solid wooden cabinet wall without clearance or cabinet venting, directly violating the Victron installation manual, which dictates and warns: "For safety reasons, this product should be installed in a cool environment." "The product must be installed in a dry and well-ventilated area...""Ensure that there is always sufficient free space around the product or ventilation openings are not blocked." This 3,000-watt inverter under high electrical load without exhaust ventilation traps severe thermal energy against combustible cabinetry, creating a direct structural fire hazard while parked or underway.On August 13, 2026, I spoke directly with Airstream of Tampa Service Director Aaron Schaldach and General Manager Samantha Mulvihill regarding this hazardous setup. Mr. Schaldach confirmed their service department performed the work and explicitly stated: "This is how we install these units in this model Airstream." Because dealership leadership confirmed that mounting high-voltage inverter units flush against wooden walls without required thermal clearances is their standard installation protocol, this is not an isolated technician error. It represents a systemic, fleet-wide fire risk introduced across multiple Airstream travel trailers modified and sold by this franchise. When requested to remediate the safety violation, dealership management explicitly refused. Action is needed to evaluate the fleet-wide thermal runaway risks posed to unsuspecting RV owners and determine if a safety recall and mandatory dealer remediation campaign are warranted.
