WHILE I WAS DRIVING IN A BUSY MULTILANE CITY TRAFFIC SITUATION, THE CAR'S CENTER CONSOLE WENT COMPLETELY BLANK AND THE TURN SIGNALS, HAZARD LIGHTS, AND VOLVO ON CALL WERE NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. I AM NOT SURE WHAT ELSE WAS AFFECTED. THIS CONTINUED FOR A FULL 1-2 MINUTES, UNLIKE TIMES BEFORE WHEN THE SYSTEM HAS DONE THE SAME THING BUT QUICKLY RE-BOOTED. THE SAFETY OF OTHERS AND MYSELF WAS COMPROMISED, AS I NEEDED TO CHANGE LANES TO GET ONTO THE INTERSTATE. I COULD NOT TELL IF MY SIGNALS WERE FUNCTIONING BECAUSE THE SIGNALS WERE NOT MAKING A CLICKING SOUND AND THE FLASHING SIGNAL INDICATOR LIGHTS WERE COMPLETELY NONFUNCTIONAL. I TRIED THE HAZARD LIGHTS AS WELL, WHICH DID NOT FUNCTION. I PRESSED THE VOLVO ON CALL BUTTON, BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED THAT A "SOFTWARE UPDATE" WAS PERFORMED TO FIX THE PROBLEM, AND WHEN I QUESTIONED HOW I WAS TO KNOW IF THIS WOULD BE A PROBLEM IN THE FUTURE, I WAS TOLD THAT I "WOULDN'T KNOW UNLESS THERE WAS A PROBLEM" AND THEY CLAIMED TO KNOW NOTHING ABOUT WHETHER THE INCIDENT WOULD BE REPORTED TO THE NHTSA. I FEEL UNSAFE DRIVING THIS CAR NOW, WHICH IS IRONIC CONSIDERING THAT I BOUGHT A VOLVO FOR ITS PURPORTED SAFETY.

Volvo Car USA, LLC (Volvo Car) is recalling certain 2019-2022 V60CC, XC60, and XC90 vehicles. During steering gear assembly, double screws may have been assembled on top of each other, which can cause a screw to fall into the gearbox housing.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A screw inside the gearbox housing can cause the steering wheel to lock up and increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the steering gear, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 1, 2023. Owners may contact Volvo Car's customer service at 1-800-458-1552. Volvo Car's number for this recall is R10213.

Consequence & remedy
Consequence: If the tailgate lifting arms separate, the arms could project rearward with significant force, increasing the risk of injury.

The software installed in the Vehicle Connectivity Module (VCM) may have an error causing the Telematics and Driver Support Systems to function improperly. As a result, the GPS will not provide location information to emergency personnel in the event of an emergency.

NHTSA received a petition on or about July 18, 2022, requesting that Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the United States. The petition can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under ODI Number 11486072. FMVSS 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 KG or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after March 1, 2021.On January 27, 2023, NHTSA opened Defect Petition (DP) 22-005 to evaluate the subject matter described in the petition. On June 24, 2023 and as supplemented on June 25, 2023, the petitioner notified NHTSA he was withdrawing his petition. The petitioner indicated that, based on his review of data, there is no justification for asserting potential benefits that could be derived from actions sought by my petition. Based on the petitioner's withdrawal, DP22-005 is closed. Closure of this DP does not represent a determination by NHTSA regarding the subject matter of the petition.
