I am submitting this complaint to report a serious safety issue involving a Volvo VNL truck. The vehicle was purchased new on December 12, 2025 and currently has approximately 22,000 miles. Since shortly after purchase, the truck has experienced a defect in the braking system. While driving, the vehicle has unexpectedly applied the brakes on its own and has displayed warning messages related to the parking brake system. This creates a dangerous situation because sudden braking can cause loss of control or lead to a collision with other vehicles. The truck was taken to an authorized Volvo dealer for repair and remained at the dealership for approximately one month while technicians attempted to diagnose and repair the problem. After the truck was returned to me, the exact same issue occurred again almost immediately. Because the braking system is a critical safety component, the unexpected application of brakes while driving presents a serious risk to the driver and to other motorists on the road. The defect has persisted despite extended repair attempts. I am reporting this issue so that it can be investigated as a potential safety defect affecting this vehicle model. Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo Trucks) is recalling certain 2026-2027 VNL (4) and VNR (4) vehicles. The center roof marker lights may fail to illuminate. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: Marker lights that fail to illuminate can reduce visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the center roof marker light, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 5, 2026. Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo Trucks) is recalling certain 2026 VOLVO VAH, VN, VHD, 2026-2027 VNL (4) and VNR (4) vehicles. The steering knuckles may have been manufactured with insufficiently tightened steering arms.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A loose steering arm can result in a loss of vehicle steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.
