I THINK THAT IT IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE AND TOO RISKY TO HAVE ONE OF THE MAIN SAFETY MECHANISM IN CAR TO BE A THREAT TO DRIVERS AS WELL. WHEN THERE ARE RECALLS ON TOYS PEOPLE ARE INSTRUCTED TO IMMEDIATELY RETURN THEM TO THE STORE OR AT LEAST THROW THEM AWAY AND KEEP THE TOYS AWAY FROM THEIR CHILDREN. NOW THERE IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE WITH AIRBAGS IN A CAR AND NOT HIS HAS BEEN DONE. PEOPLE HAVE ALREADY LOST THEIR LIVES AS A RESULT OF THE FAULTY AIR BAGS AND STILL NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. TAKATA RECALL CALLED MY DEALER TO GET AN UPDATE ON THE TAKATA RECALL, AND STILL NO AVAILABLE DATE, VW CUSTOMER SERVICE IS TELLING ME IS SAFE TO DRIVE THE CAR DESPITE SEVERAL CASES OF FATAL INJURY. VW IS ALSO NOT PROVIDING WITH A RENTAL OR IMMEDIATE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM.
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2017-2019 Beetle, Beetle Convertible, 2012-2014 Passat, 2017 Passat Wagon, and 2006-2007 Passat Sedan vehicles. The driver's side frontal air bag inflator may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the driver's side front air bag module, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 4, 2024. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's numbers for this recall are 69EG, 69GQ, and 69E6.

Consequence: AN INSUFFICIENTLY TIGHTENED TIE ROD NUT MAY LOOSEN, RESULTING IN SEPARATION OF A TIE ROD. THIS CAN CAUSE A LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL, WHICH COULD CAUSE A CRASH.
