The rear passenger door got stuck and did not open while we were inside. My son tried to open it and it was just stuck. The other 3 doors in the car opened fine. I locked and unlocked/turned the child locks on and off/ turned the car on and off and nothing would open the door from the interior. My son was stuck. I recorded 3 minutes of all these things going on. Finally, I could open the door from the outside of the car. The door has been malfunctioning (not closing, opening on its own, or getting stuck) since I purchased the vehicle 18 months ago. The dealer initially refused to inspect bc they could not replicate but I started taking videos. One month ago they had replaced the latch and other components but it did not fix the problem. The car is back in service.

I have a Volkswagon ID4 that has the screen power go off while you are driving, VW says they have no idea when they will have a fix it, but they are aware. My car popped up a messaging stating “Electrical system not working correctly. Please service vehicle.” I called in for service and the dealer told me that the message was not urgent as it was a yellow message and that they would not be able to get me in until Tuesday. I continued to drive the car and the message would come and go for two days. On the last day, I got the message and heard an electrical whirring noise when pressing the accelerator. Then the sound and message went away. Later that evening when charging, the fans were running extremely loud so I got the car out of my garage to avoid it catching fire. I called VW who said that I could drive it to the dealer. I left my house and the car popped up the message and then said it was disabling functions. It never said to pull over. Then a turtle popped up and my speed was dropped to 45 mph. I was on a highway at the time and turned around to head back home. Then it dropped my speed to 25. Right after doing that it came to a stop in the middle of the road. It never said to pull over or avoid driving it either but I was stranded in the road. A few minutes later all the messages disappeared and it started driving normally. I made it home and called for a tow truck.

Given that the necessary repairs are not currently available, I am understandably concerned about continuing to drive a vehicle that poses a risk to my safety. My attempts to resolve this issue through the dealership have unfortunately been unsuccessful, as they have not accepted the vehicle for return or provided a satisfactory resolution. Given these circumstances, I am requesting a resolution to this matter. Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A vehicle fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
Remedy: Owners are advised to park outside immediately after charging and not leave their vehicles charging indoors overnight until the recall repair is complete. Also, owners are advised not to use Level 3 DC chargers and to limit the maximum charge of the battery to 80% until the remedy has been completed. Dealers will replace the high voltage battery cell modules as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 18, 2026. Consequence: In a fire, fabric that is not fire retardant may further fuel a fire, increasing the risk of injury.

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2023 ID4 rear-wheel drive vehicles. The 12-Volt battery charging cable may contact the steering column shaft and cause the cable insulation to wear, possibly resulting in a short circuit.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A short circuit may cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash. A short circuit also increases the risk of a vehicle fire.
Remedy: Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the remedy has been completed. Dealers will inspect the 12-Volt battery charging cable and repair or replace it, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed February 27, 2023. Consequence & remedy
Consequence: Coolant that leaks into the high-voltage system may impact safety-critical systems and warning lights, causing a loss of vehicle control or unintended air bag deployment, and increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

The rearview camera image may be blank or unresponsive when the vehicle is placed in reverse gear or when the park function is manually activated. Consequence & remedy
Consequence: An inoperative rearview camera display can reduce the driver's rear visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the rearview camera, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed to Audi owners February 14, 2023. Volkswagen owners will receive an owner notification letter once remedy parts become available. On May 16, 2024, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened Recall Query (RQ) RQ24010 to investigate the remedy and scope of recalls 23V-213 and 23V-312. The affected vehicles by these recalls included model years (MY) 2021 through 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 vehicles. ODI received reports of the vehicle’s doors opening while the vehicle was in motion post recall remedy. ODI, also, received similar allegations on vehicles that were outside the scope of the recalls. Volkswagen issued recall 23V-213 on March 29, 2023, and recall 23V-213 on May 03, 2023. These recalls addressed the defect of water ingress into the circuit board assembly of the door handle. Water ingress can cause communication issues between the door handle and the door control until. This malfunction resulted in the vehicle door inadvertently opening while the vehicle was in motion. Over the course of the investigation, ODI received 17 unique VIN VOQ complaints of the vehicle doors opening while the vehicle was in motion occurring either post recall remedy or on a vehicle that was outside the recall scope. Volkswagen submitted 190 unique VIN complaints reporting the same circumstances. On September 4, 2024, Volkswagen submitted recall 24V-651 to address the issue of inadvertent opening of the door while the vehicle is in motion. The scope of this recall expands the affected vehicles to include all MY2021-2024 Volkswagen ID.4 models, including those remedied under the subject recalls. The recall remedy consists of replacement of the door handle assembly on all four doors as well as a software update. The software update is performed to update the door handle parameters. The new door handle will have the membrane relocated to the back of the handle to avoid standing water within the handle. Also, a protective coating will be on the front and back of the circuit board to avoid direct moisture formation. In view of the action being taken by Volkswagen, Recall 24V-651, ODI is closing this Recall Query. The Agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances.
