2023 Volkswagen ID.4

The incident occurred on May 24, 2025, while preparing to park the 2023 VW ID4. I had two occupants in the car with me. At the time of the incident, I was moving very slow with my foot on the brake, just about ready to stop and put the car in the park position, when the ID4 suddenly violently lurched forward. The car went over a cement parking stop continuing forward on to a sidewalk and then hit a building. I tried to stop the vehicle as quickly as I could. No collision lights, none of the usual sensors, and no automatic Collison braking came on. The only braking was by me. If someone would have been walking in front of the car at the time of the incident there would have been serious injuries, or deaths. Had the car had more room to accelerate before it hit the building, I think myself & my passengers could have been injured. The vehicle was taken into VW dealership who had the car for five weeks. The car was inspected by a VW engineer, final report states driver pressed the accelerator causing the vehicle to go forward at 54% acceleration. I expressed to the VW dealership that the car DID lunge but that I did not touch the accelerator. I had 2 passengers that can also verify that there were no warning lamps, sensors, or symptoms prior to the incident and normally the front sensors start beeping when you get too close to anything! After this incident I started to do some research and found on a VW Vortex forum that this type of incident has happened to numerous owners of ID 4's. Some of the writers to the forum had the exact same incident as mine, stating they were pulling into a parking spot ready to park and the car lunged. I also found it was happening to Audi owners a sister company of VW. My greatest concern is the frequency of this incident and the company's refusal to take any responsibility which was also widely reported on line. We had owned the VW ID4 for 2.5 years and never had anything like this happened before.

There is an ongoing NHTSA investigation into serious door-handle defects that can cause the doors to open unexpectedly while driving, which has remained unresolved for over a year. Additionally, the vehicle is subject to a recall regarding a missing gear-position indicator, posing a potential roll-away hazard. Despite my efforts to address these issues, Volkswagen has not provided timely or adequate remedies.

I have encountered 2 high speed blowouts on my Pirelli Scorpion tires. One in July 2024 and one in Dec 2024. Car has 6,000 miles on it. It has cost almost $1,600 to repair. Tires are not warrantied by VW. My dealership has opened a warranty claim with Pirelli with no response in 6 months. VW corporate will not get involved. I feel like i have a bad set of tires on my new car and i am afraid to drive it. I paid $46,000 for a car with nobody responsible for tire defects. Are there known issues with these tires? Who is responsible pirelli or VW.

I bought the Volkswagen ID4 on lease from one of the Volkswagen dealer Dick Hannah based out of Portland, OR. It's 4 year lease, paying $760/month. I have received many recalls from Volkswagen, one of them was door handle and lock issue. I have complained to Volkswagen that door get open while i am driving the car and this needs to be fixed, they have said to me that, they do not have any parts to fix this and placed me in queue from last 4 months. I am not able to drive the car where i am paying $40K on lease payments in 4 years. This is really a safety concern where i do not take my kids into car and not driving much. I tried to call Volkswagen and ask them to cancel lease, they have asked me to pay remaining months payment which is $18K. I am not able to cancel lease, not able to drive, and they are not able to fix. I would request federal govt to have strict rules for auto makes outside of USA and have some penalty to pay to customers if they have recall. They send so many recalls, than what is use of buying new cars and paying them huge money, there should be some amount to pay to customer if there are recalls. This is safety concern to US Citizens and me.

My car has been under a recall notice since 2024. A fix was not available until January. As soon as repairs were available, I scheduled an appointment for repair (requested 12/29/24, scheduled 2/13/25). The week of the repair, I received a call that said the dealer had not actually ordered the necessary parts and I would need to reschedule. I scheduled another service appointment on 3/18/25 for the next available date, 4/30/25. This week I received another call that yet again the dealer had not ordered the parts for repair. I have lost faith in the manufacturer's willingness to repair this defect, as two appointments scheduled rough 4 months from a request for repair have not led to them completing the warranty work. This is especially troubling as I have a small child who often rides in the car with me. In addition, I am leading the vehicle and responsible for completing recalls in a timely manner, and the dealership will not allow me to complete my responsibilities. My dealership, Westside VW in St. Louis Park, MN, has not completed my recalls in a reasonable amount of time. I scheduled an appointment two months ago to get this done and they canceled it the day before saying "they didn't have the parts." They said they'd call when the parts were in stock, approximately 1-2 weeks. That was 2 months ago and absolutely no communication from them.

Documented iPhone and Infotainment system not functioning with hands free. This results in key safety feature which I bought the ID4 for. Prior VW service claims this is user error and cannot reproduce. On 2-24-25, I was able to show service manager and tech the consistent problem. Tech used 3 differing iPhones and 3 differing cables without any resolution to why this happens in all phones and cables. Waiting for VW Corporate to approve new Infotainment replacement.
