The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed in inclement weather, the alarm system detected that the doors were opened, causing the vehicle to come to a complete stop; however, the doors were properly closed. Additionally, the instrument panel display screen intermittently went blank for 15-20 seconds while driving. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after opening and closing the doors. The dealer was notified of the failures, and the contact was informed that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 24V651000 (Structure) and 24V344000 (Back Over Prevention, Equipment, Electrical System); however, the parts to do the recall repair were not yet available. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact stated that he had not received notification of the recalls. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and two cases were opened. The rear passenger door got stuck and did not open while we were inside. My son tried to open it and it was just stuck. The other 3 doors in the car opened fine. I locked and unlocked/turned the child locks on and off/ turned the car on and off and nothing would open the door from the interior. My son was stuck. I recorded 3 minutes of all these things going on. Finally, I could open the door from the outside of the car. The door has been malfunctioning (not closing, opening on its own, or getting stuck) since I purchased the vehicle 18 months ago. The dealer initially refused to inspect bc they could not replicate but I started taking videos. One month ago they had replaced the latch and other components but it did not fix the problem. The car is back in service.

The vehicle is currently with a Volkswagen dealership and is confirmed and replicated. - The safety of the passenger seated in the front passenger seat is at risk if the door were to fully open, as well as any objects in the door’s way. - The problem HAS been reproduced or confirmed by a Volkswagen dealership in June 2024 and had the affected door handle replaced. - The vehicle and component has NOT been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others. - There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, only after the door was opened was there a notification (chime and message) of an open door.

Was stationary in dense traffic, all waiting for a local bridge to open. We had been waiting for 10 or so minutes. Had braked and stopped close to car in front, car in Auto Hold. All of a sudden, my car accelerated quickly into stationary car in front, twice I believe, before I was able to brake and turn car off. I do not know why this happened or whether there were any warnings. Affected my car, car in front of me, and car in front of them. No one hurt, my car front rather damaged, perhaps $12,000+, car in front damaged front and rear. We were able to drive away, but my car not safe to drive. Is currently parked and waiting to be towed once collision shop space is available. I have not taken to dealer to test as is not safe to drive. No one has inspected in person yet.

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2023-2024 ID.4 vehicles. The high voltage (HV) battery cell modules may contain misaligned electrodes that can result in a battery fire.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A vehicle fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
Remedy: Owners are advised to park outside immediately after charging and not leave their vehicles charging indoors overnight until the recall repair is complete. Also, owners are advised not to use Level 3 DC chargers and to limit the maximum charge of the battery to 80% until the remedy has been completed. Dealers will replace the high voltage battery cell modules as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 18, 2026. Consequence: In a fire, fabric that is not fire retardant may further fuel a fire, increasing the risk of injury.

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (Volkswagen) is recalling certain 2023 ID4 rear-wheel drive vehicles. The 12-Volt battery charging cable may contact the steering column shaft and cause the cable insulation to wear, possibly resulting in a short circuit.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A short circuit may cause a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash. A short circuit also increases the risk of a vehicle fire.
Remedy: Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the remedy has been completed. Consequence & remedy
Consequence: Coolant that leaks into the high-voltage system may impact safety-critical systems and warning lights, causing a loss of vehicle control or unintended air bag deployment, and increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

On May 16, 2024, the Office of Defects Investigations (ODI) opened Recall Query (RQ) RQ24010 to investigate the remedy and scope of recalls 23V-213 and 23V-312. The affected vehicles by these recalls included model years (MY) 2021 through 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 vehicles. ODI received reports of the vehicle’s doors opening while the vehicle was in motion post recall remedy. ODI, also, received similar allegations on vehicles that were outside the scope of the recalls. Volkswagen issued recall 23V-213 on March 29, 2023, and recall 23V-213 on May 03, 2023. These recalls addressed the defect of water ingress into the circuit board assembly of the door handle. Water ingress can cause communication issues between the door handle and the door control until. This malfunction resulted in the vehicle door inadvertently opening while the vehicle was in motion. Over the course of the investigation, ODI received 17 unique VIN VOQ complaints of the vehicle doors opening while the vehicle was in motion occurring either post recall remedy or on a vehicle that was outside the recall scope. Volkswagen submitted 190 unique VIN complaints reporting the same circumstances. On September 4, 2024, Volkswagen submitted recall 24V-651 to address the issue of inadvertent opening of the door while the vehicle is in motion. The scope of this recall expands the affected vehicles to include all MY2021-2024 Volkswagen ID.4 models, including those remedied under the subject recalls. The recall remedy consists of replacement of the door handle assembly on all four doors as well as a software update. The software update is performed to update the door handle parameters. The new door handle will have the membrane relocated to the back of the handle to avoid standing water within the handle. Also, a protective coating will be on the front and back of the circuit board to avoid direct moisture formation. In view of the action being taken by Volkswagen, Recall 24V-651, ODI is closing this Recall Query. The Agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances.
