2025 Volkswagen Id. Buzz

I am reporting a safety concern involving my 2025 Volkswagen ID. Buzz Pro S RWD. While reversing at approximately 3 mph out of a parking spot, the vehicle suddenly and automatically applied the brakes with extreme force even though there was no obstacle behind the vehicle and no apparent reason for emergency braking. The stop was so abrupt that it felt as though the vehicle had struck a solid object and caused the occupants to experience whiplash-like movement. The braking appears to have been caused by the vehicle's Maneuver Braking/parking collision-avoidance system. This was not simply a warning or normal parking-assistance intervention; the vehicle unexpectedly brought itself to a violent stop. I am concerned that false activation of this system creates its own safety hazard. An unexpected full-force stop while maneuvering could injure occupants, cause a driver to lose control of the situation, or create a collision risk with another vehicle or road user who is not expecting the vehicle to stop suddenly. There was no visible obstacle that would explain the intervention. It's possible the camera system was confused by some shade during a sunny day. I believe this incident should be investigated as a potential defect involving false activation of the automatic braking system on the Volkswagen ID. Buzz.

The rearview camera and rear cross-traffic alert system in my vehicle failed to function while I was reversing. The camera screen went completely black, and the cross-traffic warning did not activate. Because I had no visibility behind the vehicle and received no alerts, I backed into a neighbor’s mailbox post. The impact damaged my rear right turning lights and the mailbox post. These safety systems are critical for preventing collisions, and their unexpected failure created a significant safety risk to me and my neighbor. The vehicle is currently at the dealer for repair of the turn signal light. The dealer has not inspected the camera issue because the camera began working again after the incident, so the malfunction has not yet been reproduced or confirmed. No warning lights, messages, or symptoms appeared before the failure, and it occurred without any prior indication. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request.
