ON 8-14-2011 MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING OUR RAV4. WE HAD JUST LEFT A RESIDENTIAL HOUSE AND HAD BEEN DRIVING THROUGH THE NEIGHBORHOOD AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH (MAXIMUM). AS WE APPROACHED THE RED STOPLIGHT AT THE NEIGHBORHOOD EXIT, HE TOOK HIS FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR TO GRADUALLY COME TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN MOVING AT LESS THAN 5 MILES PER HOUR. WHEN HE PUSHED HIS FOOT MORE FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE ENGINE STARTING RACING WILDLY. HE THEN PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. WHEN HE RESTARTED THE CAR EVERYTHING WORKED FINE. A VISUAL INSPECTION VERIFIED THAT THE FLOOR MAT WAS NOWHERE NEAR THE GAS PEDAL AND THE GAS PEDAL MOVED PERFECTLY (NOT STUCK). CONSIDERING THE CIRCUMSTANCES, I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT EITHER THE FLOOR MAT OR A STUCK GAS PEDAL CAUSED THIS ACCELERATION. FORTUNATELY (AT LEAST THIS TIME), THE WARNINGS FROM TOYOTA AND DISCUSSIONS ON THE INTERNET HAD MENTALLY PREPARED US TO SAFELY RESPOND IN THE EVENT THAT THIS TYPE OF SITUATION OCCURRED, BUT IF AN UNINFORMED DRIVER HAD BEEN DRIVING THE CAR, IT IS VERY LIKELY THAT THEY WOULD HAVE SLAMMED INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF THEM. *TR

THIS IS TO NOTIFY YOU OF A POTENTIAL PROBLEM WITH YOKOHAMA GEOLANDAR G91 TIRES. ON WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 3, 2011, I HAD A BLOWOUT IN ONE OF THEIR TIRES LOCATED IN THE RIGHT REAR OF MY SUV. THE TIRES ARE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT IN A 2009 RAV4, WITH 32,900 MILES, AND ARE INFLATED TO A PRESSURE OF 32.5 PSI. THE TIRE THREAD IS EVENLY WORN TO A DEPTH OF 5/32?, MEASURED VIRTUALLY EVERYWHERE ALONG THE TIRE, INDICATING EVEN WEAR. THE PHOTOGRAPH BELOW SHOWS THE TIRE WALL WITH THE DIMENSIONS, 225/65 R17 101H. THE BLOWOUT OCCURRED AT 4 AM, ON A SMOOTH ROAD (SANIBEL-CAPTIVA ROAD, BETWEEN THE 1 AND 2 MILE MARKERS) WHILE I WAS GOING BETWEEN 35 AND 40 MPH. THE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE WAS 82F ACCORDING TO THE CAR THERMOMETER. I DO NOT THINK I HIT ANYTHING, OR THAT THE TIRE WAS PUNCTURED, AS YOU CAN SEE WHEN I FOLD THE PIECE OVER THE SPACE, AS SHOWN IN THE PICTURE BELOW. BECAUSE OF THE SPEED AND ROAD CONDITIONS THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE, BUT THE RIM BENT AND CRACKED. I HAVE FOUR PICTURES AND A DETAILED DESCRIPTION IN MY FILES, AND CAN SHARE IF YOU NEED THEM. I WILL REPLACE THE YOKOHAMA TIRES AS SOON AS A REPLACEMENT WHEEL ARRIVES. *TT

2009 TOYOTA RAV4 LEAKED FLUID. I LOST CONTROL OF CAR, STEERING, BRAKES & CAR ACCELERATED AT A RAPID PACE ON ITS OWN. I WAS TURNING LEFT AT ABOUT 20MPH HIT ANOTHER CAR ACCELERATED FAST WITH NO CONTROL WAS HEADED FOR A BUILDING WHEN RIGHT TIRE WENT OVER A CONCRETE PARKING BLOCK LEFT SIDE WAS ON GRASS WHEN THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL SNAPPED OFF & THE CAR STOPPED. THE CAR WAS REPAIRED & PAID FOR BY MY INSURANCE CO. AS WELL AS THE OTHER CAR INVOLVED. THE CAR HAD EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE SUSPENSION. I WAS NOT CITED BY POLICE BECAUSE IT WAS OBVIOUS THE FLUID FOLLOWED MY CAR UNTIL IT STOPPED. I DON'T AGREE WITH THE NHTSA FINDINGS ON TOYOTA'S ACCELERATION PROBLEMS. THE PEOPLE "TESTING" THE PROBLEM SHOULD DRIVE ONE OF THESE TOYOTAS WHEN IT ACCELERATES & FEEL THE FEAR I HAD DURING THIS ACCIDENT. THANK THE LORD I WAS NOT ON THE EXPRESSWAY. I WANT TO ENTER A CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST TOYOTA BECAUSE I AM A SENIOR CITIZEN & LIVING ON A FIXED INCOME. I LIVE IN OHIO. I HAVE DRIVEN 52 YRS. & HAVE RECEIVED 1 TICKET 15 YRS. AGO FOR FAILING TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN. I AM DISAPPOINTED OUR GOVERNMENT IS IGNORING THIS COMPLAINT AGAINST TOYOTA ACCELERATION. I HURT MY SHOULDER TRYING TO GET THE JAMMED DOOR OPEN BUT IT IS GETTING BETTER WITH THERAPY. TOYOTA TOOK THEIR "EVENT DATA RECORDER" OUT OF MY CAR GAVE ME A FLASH DRIVE WITH THE CODES ON IT BUT TOYOTA IS THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN DECIPHER THEIR CODES. YOU MUST TAKE THEIR WORD FOR THE CODING DECIPHER. MY CAR HAD 22,922 MILES ON IT STILL UNDER 3 YRS WARRANTY & THEY DENIED MY CLAIM. I RECEIVED A LETTER STATING THIS BUT THE LETTER HAD WRONG INFORMATION IN IT. THEY HAD THE WRONG TOYOTA DEALER I USED ON THE RECALLS THE WRONG DATE I TOOK MY CAR FOR THE RECALL. THE DEALER ISN'T EVEN IN MY AREA. THIS WAS A FORM LETTER THAT SOMEONE USED FOR SOMEONE ELSE & FAILED TO CHANGE THE FIELDS IN THE LETTER. I NEED ANYONE'S HELP WHETHER IT BE CLASS ACTION OR A LAWYER TO DO CONTINGENCY WORK. PLEASE POST IF ANYONE HAS HAD THIS ACCELERATION PROBLEM. LETS NOT LET TOY. GET BY. *TR

A 2009 TOYOTA RAV 4 V6 LIMITED. WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS APPROXIMATELY 5 TO 10 MPH, VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED UPON BRAKING WITHOUT WARNING. THIS IS VERY SCARRY SINCE BRAKING DISTANCE CAN NOT BE DETERMINED AND HAS CAUSED NEAR ACCIDENTS. THIS HAS HAPPEND ABOUT 6 TO 8 TIMES AND WAS REPORTED TO THE DEALER ON 3 OCCASIONS NEAR 5,000 AND 25,000 AND 27,000 MILES. APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES IN ORDER TO KEEP THE VEHICLE FROM ACCELERATING INCREASED THE ACCELERATION. THE TOYOTA SERVICE DEALER REVIEWED AND TEST DROVE THE RAV 4 TWICE. ON THE LAST OCCASION, THE VEHICLE WAS KEPT OVER NIGHT FOR A TOYOTA REGIONAL MANAGER TO INVESTIGATE AT 27,000 MILES. THE REGIONAL MANAGER, AFTER OUR DISCUSSION, INDICATED HE WOULD FILE A REPORT WITH TOYOTA. NEITHER THE DEALER SERVICE MANAGER NOR THE TOYOTA REGIONAL MANAGER WERE ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE ACCELERATION WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED, HOWEVER THE LAST ACCELERATION UPON APPLYING BRAKES DID OCCUR AFTER THE PEDAL RECALL. THE REGIONAL MANAGER REVIEWED THE PEDAL RECALL INSTALLATION AND ASSURED ME IT WAS PERFORMED CORRECTLY. BOTH THE DEALER SERVICE MANAGER AND THE TOYOTA REGIONAL MANAGER INFORMED ME THE ACCELERATION COULD BE USER ERROR SINCE THE BRAKE IS CLOSE TO THE ACCELERATOR. THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR COULD BE BOTH DEPRESSED AT THE SAME TIME. THEY WERE BOTH ABLE TO DO THIS, HIT THE BRAKE AND THE ACCELERATOR WITH ONE FOOT WHEN BRAKING. THE DEALER SERVICE MANAGER THE SHOWED ME HOW OTHER MODELS HAVE THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR FURTHER APART. WHEN ASKED ABOUT A BRAKE OVER RIDE, THE REGIONAL MANAGER STATED THE COMPUTER UPDATE ON A 2009 RAV4 V6 COULD NOT BE ADAPTED TO OVER RIDE ACCELERATION WHEN BRAKING. THE DEALER SERVICE MANAGER AND TOYOTA REGIONAL MANAGER OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. *TR

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2006-2011 Toyota RAV4 vehicles manufactured October 31, 2005, to September 7, 2010, and 2010 Lexus HS250h vehicles manufactured July 6, 2009, to August 26, 2010. The affected vehicles have rear suspension arms (rear tie rods) with adjusting lock nuts that may have been improperly tightened after servicing. As a result of being loose, the arm may have thread damage and may rust, possibly leading to the failure of the arm and an abrupt change in the vehicle's alignment.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Failure of the rear tie rod could cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Toyota will notify owners and dealers will replace both rear suspension arms and encapsulate the locknuts, free of charge. The recall began on September 30, 2016. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Toyota's numbers for this recall are G0V for Toyota vehicles and GLK for Lexus vehicles. Note: This recall supersedes recall 13V-383, in which some vehicles were only inspected, sealed, and did not have both arms replaced. The affected vehicles were previously recalled under 13V-383, but did not have both rear suspension arms replaced at that time. Those vehicles need to have both arms replaced as part of this recall remedy.

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2009-2012 RAV4 vehicles manufactured October 27, 2008, to December 19, 2012 and 2012-2014 RAV4 EV vehicles manufactured July 24, 2012, to August 29, 2014. In the affected vehicles, water may drip onto the joint that connects the wiper linkage to the wiper motor.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Over time, the dripping water may cause corrosion and wear at the joint, potentially resulting in the separation of the wiper linkage. Once this occurs, the wipers would not function, reducing driver visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will replace the water diverter channel. In addition, a new wiper linkage with a wiper motor crank arm will be installed. The wiper linkage will have a protective cover over the wiper linkage joint to minimize water splash and a retainer ring to prevent the wiper arm from separating from the wiper motor. The recall began on November 7, 2016. Owners may contact Toyota's customer service number at 1-800-331-4331.

Aug 28, 2013

Toyota is recalling certain model year 2006 through 2011 RAV4 and 2010 Lexus HS250h passenger vehicles manufactured from October 2005 through September 2010. If the nuts for adjusting the rear wheel alignment are improperly tightened during service, the rear suspension arm (rear tie rod) may develop unwanted movement and rust leading to thread damage and eventual failure. Failure of the rear tie rod will cause an abrupt change in the vehicle's alignment.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Failure of the rear tie rod could cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the tie rods and replace any that have rust or corrosion on the alignment adjustment threads. All of the rear tie rods will then be encased in an epoxy to prevent future environmental damage. Due to limitations in parts, the recall remedy will be launched in phases from September 2013 through mid-April 2014. All owners will receive notification of the recall, with most receiving second notifications when parts are available in their area. IMPORTANT: This recall supersedes Toyota and Lexus recall 12V-373.
