2024 Land Cruiser, purchased in July, 2024 has had 4 random hard downshifts when coming to a stop and then lunges forward as when a driver downshifts harshly in a manual car (keeping in mind that the land cruiser is an automatic and the driver is not intentionally down shifting). On the 4th occurance, I nearly rear ended a car. Fist occurance at approximately 250 miles and last occurance at approximately 1,200 miles. The car was taken to a local dealership on 11/04/24 but the dealership refused to further evaluate as Toyota headquarters informed them that the vehicle is sheduled to be evaluted by a Toyota regional technician. On 11/12/24, the toyota regional technician did not replicate the safety concern per the dealership and it was advised to go pick up the car. As of 11/18, the car remains in the local dealership due to my safety concerns. Toyota headquarters has not advised me or dealership on the next steps. No warning lights on the dash are present and Toyota does not consider this a safety issue as it has not been replicated. Concern of the car automatically braking without objects in front has been brought up to Toyota as well.

My brand new Land Cruiser has random extremely hard downshifts when coming to a stop. It is so jolting that it lunges the car forward and could potentially cause me to rear end someone. It doesn’t happen every time I come to a stop but it does seem that coming to a quick stop such as emergency braking or braking after faster driving makes it more likely to happen. There are no warning lights on the dash and I haven’t had it checked out by Toyota because I am quite positive they will tell me nothing is wrong because they probably won’t be able to replicate it on their quick test drive. I am sick of these issues on new cars that are unable to be replicated by technicians. This is a serious safety issue.

Transmission failure at 2,600 mi under low speed. The vehicle lost momentum and revved before catching gear causing an intense jerk feeling like it had been rear-ended. Immediately following the jolt multiple errors were displayed across the dash including Drive-Start Control Malfunction, PKSB System Malfunction, Hybrid System Malfunction, DRCC & PCS system malfunction screens along with orange indicators for the brake system warning, driving assist, DRCC & PCS. I was able to drive the vehicle in limp mode, as the transmission wouldn't shift up or down, to my local dealer who was able to verify multiple Pressure Control Solenoid error codes. After conferring with Toyota Engineering, they recommended a full transmission and torque converter replacement. Parts aren't readily available and the repair is expected to take between 4-8 weeks as they wait for new parts to come off the assembly line. The dealership has provided me with a loaner vehicle and all work is covered under warranty.
