I CANNOT EVEN TOUCH MY DASHBOARD WITHOUT LEAVING A FINGERPRINT. THERE IS A PUDDLE OF MELTED DASH CLOSER TO THE WINDSHIELD. MY MAIN CONCERN IS THAT THE MELTED DASHBOARD CREATES A GLARE WHEN I AM DRIVING WHICH IS DISTRACTING AND DANGEROUS. THANK YOU. *TR

MY 2009 CAMRY DASHBOARD IS MELTING. THE LEATHER CONSOLE BETWEEN SEATS HAS CRACKED.THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM KEEPS SHORTING OUT. ALL CIGARETTE LIGHTERS/CHARGER LOCATIONS HAVE SHORTED OUT INCLUDING THE AUX. A WEEK AFTER BUYING MY CAR THE SAFETY FEATURE TO LOCK PLACE MAT IN PLACE BROKE. NEARLY CAUSING A CAR WRECK AS THE PLACE MAT LODGED IN BETWEEN THE GAS AND BRAKE. THE RADIO, LOCATION WHERE SPEEDOMETER, CLOCK, AND SERVICE LIGHTS LOCATIONS ARE FOGGED UP AND GETTING WORSE DAILY. WHEN I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE DASHBOARD I WAS TOLD,"IT WAS MY FAULT. PROBABLY CAUSED BY A CLEANING PRODUCT." WHICH I KNEW WAS ENTIRELY NOT TRUE. CIGARETTE LIGHTER COVERS HAVE DRY ROT AND BROKEN, PLASTIC/LEATHER HAS DRY ROT UNDER ALL 4 WINDOWS LEAVING SCRATCH LOOKING MARKS, DRY ROT PAINT BY STICK SHIFT IS PEELING. HEADLIGHTS FOG UP EASILY WITH WATER IN THEM. I WAS IN A CAR WRECK A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO.WHEN I WAS GOING ABOUT 10 MPH AND A VEHICLE RAN THE RED LIGHT HITTING THE RIGHT SIDE OF VEHICLES FRONT AREA. THEY WERE GOING AT LEAST 45 MPH. NO AIRBAG DEPLOYED. UNDERNEATH FRONT OF CAR IS A PLASTIC PIECE THAT KEEPS FALLING DOWN. SOME DAYS I AM UNABLE TO TAKE CAR OUT OF PARK UNLESS I TURN THE WHEEL,"HARD". I HAVE NEVER RECEIVED ANYTHING VIA MAIL ABOUT ANY RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE. I STILL LIVE AT THE SAME ADDRESS! TOOK CAR TO DEALER AGAIN ABOUT FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW AND DRIVER SIDE WINDOW NOT BEING ABLE TO ROLL DOWN OR UP WINDOWS. I HAD TO PAY QUITE A BIT OF MONEY TO HAVE FIXED. PASSENGER WINDOW SWITCH IS BROKEN AND STILL IS JUST LIKE DRIVERS SIDE WAS. WAS TOLD" IT WAS MOST LIKELY BECAUSE SOMEONE TRIED TO BREAK INTO MY CAR." WHICH I KNEW WAS NOT THE CASE. I AM VERY DISGUSTED AND CONSIDERING FILING A LAWSUIT AGAINST TOYOTA. I BOUGHT A LEMON CAR! I KEEP MY OIL CHANGES UP TO DATE, FLUIDS, FILTERS, ETC.I HAVE NEVER FELT SO DISAPPOINTED IN A VEHICLE PURCHASE IN MY LIFE. I'D LIKE A FULL REFUND. *TR

UPON PURCHASING THIS CAR IN/2013 WE IMMEDIATELY HAD TROUBLE WITH THE 12 V CIGARETTE LIGHTERS. PLUGGING IN THE STANDARD ITEMS LIKE A CELL PHONE OR GPS WILL ONLY GET US ABOUT 20 MINUTES AT BRST , BEFORE BLOWING THE FUSES. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHICH POWER POINT WE USE, IT HAPPENS IN EACH IF THEM. THE PLACE WE BOUGHT THE CAR EXAMINED THE SITUATION THREE TIMES AND COULDN'T DECIPHER THE PROBLEM. A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WOULD CHARGE OVER $100 JUST FOR A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK. DUE TO THIS PROBLEM WE DON'T FEEL SAFE TRAVELING FAR WITH THE VEHICLE, BEING UNABLE TO CHARGE CELL HONE, GPS, OR SAFETY CAMERAS. THE CAR IS OTHERWISE VERY RELIABLE, BUT FOR A BATTERY WHICH SUDDENLY DIED ON US ONE VERY COLD NIGHT. WE WERE SURPRISED IT DIDN'T DIVE A WARNING THAT IT MIGHT NEED REPLACING SOON. AS FOR THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEM, WE WERE TOLD WE MAY BE ABLE TO PURCHASE AN ALTERNATIVE EXTERNAL SYSTEM TO COMPENSATE FOR THE CIGARETTE LIGHTERS, FROM A PLACE LIKE BEST BUY. *TR

WHILE DRIVING OR WHEN PARKED, ALL DASHBOARD GAUGES (ENGINE TEMP, SPEEDOMETER, ETC.) DROP TO 0. AT THE SAME TIME, THE "BRAKE" AND THE "ABS" LIGHTS ILLUMINATE. THE INDICATOR FOR PARK/DRIVE/REVERSE IS NO LONGER ILLUMINATED, AND THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE INDICATOR FLASHES BETWEEN "E" AND THE CORRECT TEMPERATURE. IN ADDITION, THE A/C FAILS TO COOL, DESPITE ALL LIGHTS/INDICATORS ON THE CONSOLE APPEARING NORMAL (NO FLASHING LIGHTS TO INDICATE A MALFUNCTION.) ALL ABOVE ISSUES WILL RANDOMLY OCCUR - NO OBVIOUS CORRELATION TO BRAKING, ACCELERATION, ETC. AT TIMES, SOME OF THE GAUGES WILL NORMALIZE, WHILE OTHERS REMAIN AT "0." IN ADDITION, SOME GAUGES WILL FLUCTUATE SPORADICALLY, OR "BOUNCE" UP/DOWN - NOT INDICATING TRUE ENGINE TEMP OR SPEED. THE PROBLEMS WILL ALL RESOLVE AT TIMES, SEEMINGLY RANDOMLY, AND THEN REOCCUR - JUST AS RANDOMLY. I HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE WHICH DOCUMENT THIS ISSUE, AND I HAVE NOTED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THIS WEBSITE DESCRIBING THE SAME PROBLEM. AFTER SEVERAL WEEKS (ON 11/14/14), I TOOK MY CAR TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP, DESCRIBING THE ISSUES AND SUGGESTING THE BRAKE ACTUATOR HAD FAILED (AS I HAD READ FROM OTHER OWNER COMPLAINTS.) THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THEY HAD SEEN SEVERAL OTHER VEHICLES WITH SIMILAR ISSUES, BUT WAS CONFUSED ABOUT THE INVOLVEMENT OF THE A/C ISSUE. (PLEASE NOTE: I LIVE IN A CITY WITH A POPULATION OF LESS THAN 250,000.) AFTER SEVERAL DAYS OF DIAGNOSTICS, THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP CONTACTED A TOYOTA SPECIALIST IN HOUSTON, TX, WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE BRAKE ACTUATOR HAD FAILED. I PAID $1932.23 FOR PARTS AND LABOR (THAT'S INCLUDING A 10% DISCOUNT) TO HAVE THE ISSUE REPAIRED. MY VEHICLE WAS WITH THE DEALERSHIP FOR 11 DAYS BEFORE IT WAS FINALLY REPAIRED. I AM CONCERNED THAT SO MANY PEOPLE SEEM TO HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, AND THAT A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED FOR A CONDITION AFFECTING MULTIPLE SAFETY FEATURES OF THE VEHICLE. *TR

Jan 16, 2013

Southeast Toyota Distributors, LLC (SET) is recalling certain models interspersed through model years 2009 through 2013 as follows: model year 2009-2012 Tacoma, 4Runner, Camry, Camry Hybrid, Prius, and RAV4; model year 2009-2010 Avalon, FJ Cruiser, and Highlander Hybrid; model year 2010-2013 model year Corolla, Sienna and Tundra; model year 2009-2013 Highlander and Venza; model year 2012 Prius V; and model year 2010-2012 Sequoia. During modification by SET to include accessories such as leather seat covers, seat heaters or headrest DVD systems, these vehicles may not have had the passenger seat occupant sensing system calibration tested. Without passing the calibration test, the occupant sensing system may not operate as designed.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the front passenger seat occupant sensing system is out of calibration, the front passenger airbags may not deploy or they may deploy inappropriately for the passenger's size and position. This could increase the risk of personal injury during the event of a vehicle crash necessitating airbag deployment.

Remedy: Southeast Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will test the sensitivity of the occupant detection sensors, and recalibrate them as necessary. The recall began on March 21, 2013. Owners may contact Southeast Toyota at 1-800-301-6859.

Toyota is recalling certain model year 2007-2009 Camry, Camry Hybrid, RAV4, Corolla, Corolla Matrix, Tundra, Sequoia, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, Yaris, Scion xB, Scion xD and Pontiac Vibe vehicles. The power window master switch assemblies in some of these vehicles were built using a less precise process for lubricating the internal components of the switch assemblies. Irregularities in this lubrication process may cause the power window master switch assemblies to malfunction and overheat.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the switch overheats, it may melt, possibly resulting in a fire.

Remedy: Toyota will notify its owners, and dealers will inspect the switch and apply a special grease that inhibits heat build up or replace any switch damaged by the defect, free of charge. Toyota owners that experience a problem with a switch should not attempt to make repairs, but should contact their Toyota dealer or the Toyota Customer Experience Center at 1-800-331-4331. General Motors will contact the Pontiac Vibe owners affected by this recall and GM dealers will inspect and repair switches as necessary. Those owners may contact Pontiac Customer Care at 1-800-762-2737.

TOYOTA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2010 AVALON, MODEL YEAR 2007-2010 CAMRY, MODEL YEAR 2009-2010 COROLLA, COROLLA MATRIX, RAV4, MODEL YEAR 2010 HIGHLANDER, MODEL YEAR 2008-2010 SEQUOIA, AND MODEL YEAR 2007-2010 TUNDRA VEHICLES. DUE TO THE MANNER IN WHICH THE FRICTION LEVER INTERACTS WITH THE SLIDING SURFACE OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL INSIDE THE PEDAL SENSOR ASSEMBLY, THE SLIDING SURFACE OF THE LEVER MAY BECOME SMOOTH DURING VEHICLE OPERATION. IN THIS CONDITION, IF CONDENSATION OCCURS ON THE SURFACE, AS MAY OCCUR FROM HEATER OPERATION (WITHOUT A/C) WHEN THE PEDAL ASSEMBLY IS COLD, THE FRICTION WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS OPERATED MAY INCREASE, WHICH MAY RESULT IN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECOMING HARDER TO DEPRESS, SLOWER TO RETURN, OR, IN THE WORST CASE, MECHANICALLY STUCK IN A PARTIALLY DEPRESSED POSITION.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL MAY BECOME HARD TO DEPRESS, SLOW TO RETURN TO IDLE, OR, IN THE WORST CASE, MECHANICALLY STUCK IN A PARTIALLY DEPRESSED POSITION, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A REINFORCEMENT BAR IN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WHICH WILL ALLOW THE PEDAL TO OPERATE SMOOTHLY. GM WILL NOTIFY OWNERS FOR THE PONTIAC VIBE PLEASE SEE 10V-018. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON FEBRUARY 5, 2010 AND WILL BE COMPLETED ON MARCH 15, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT TOYOTA AT 1-800-331-4331.

Oct 5, 2009

TOYOTA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2004-2010 PASSENGER VEHICLES. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL CAN GET STUCK IN THE WIDE OPEN POSITION DUE TO ITS BEING TRAPPED BY AN UNSECURED OR INCOMPATIBLE DRIVER'S FLOOR MAT.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A STUCK OPEN ACCELERATOR PEDAL MAY RESULT IN VERY HIGH VEHICLE SPEEDS AND MAKE IT DIFFICULT TO STOP THE VEHICLE, WHICH COULD CAUSE A CRASH, SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.

Remedy: TOYOTA FILED AN AMENDED DEFECT REPORT ON NOVEMBER 25, 2009, STATING THAT DEALERS WILL MODIFY THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND, ON CERTAIN VEHICLES, ALTER THE SHAPE OF THE FLOOR SURFACE UNDER THE PEDAL. THESE CHANGES ADDRESS THE RISK OF PEDAL ENTRAPMENT DUE TO INTERFERENCE WITH THE FLOOR MAT. REDESIGNED ACCELERATOR PEDALS WILL BECOME AVAILABLE BEGINNING IN APRIL 2010 AND DEALERS WILL REPLACE ANY MODIFIED PEDAL WITH THE NEW PEDAL IF DESIRED. ALSO, DEALERS WILL REPLACE ANY GENUINE TOYOTA OR LEXUS ALL-WEATHER FLOOR MATS WITH REDESIGNED ALL-WEATHER MATS, OR REPURCHASE THE PREVIOUS MATS FROM OWNERS WHO DO NOT WANT THE NEW ONES. ADDITIONALLY, SOFTWARE MODIFICATIONS WILL BE INSTALLED ON CAMRY, AVALON AND LEXUS ES 350, IS 350 AND IS 250 MODELS THAT WILL ENSURE THAT THE BRAKE OVERRIDES THE ACCELERATOR IN THE EVENT BOTH BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDALS ARE APPLIED. TOYOTA WILL BEGIN MAILING LETTERS TO OWNERS ON DECEMBER 31, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT TOYOTA AT 1-800-331-4331, LEXUS AT 1-800-255-3987.
