While driving my 2026 Toyota Camry LE Hybrid at approximately 10 mph in a parking lot, the vehicle accelerated on its own without any input from me. I applied hard braking to bring the vehicle under control. No collision occurred. The specific component or system that failed is UNKNOWN — I suspect the speed control, powertrain, or electrical throttle system, but this has not yet been diagnosed. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. My safety and the safety of others were put at risk because the vehicle accelerated unexpectedly at low speed in a parking lot, an environment with pedestrians, parked vehicles, and other close-proximity hazards. I had to brake hard to stop it, which could have resulted in a collision with another vehicle, a pedestrian, or a fixed object had I not been able to react in time. The problem has not yet been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer. I reported the incident to Toyota the day after it occurred; Toyota opened case number 260811002989 and scheduled a diagnostic inspection appointment. As of this filing, that inspection has not yet taken place. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms before or during the incident. The dashboard showed no malfunction indicators at any point.

While actively moving at highway speeds on July 13, 2026, the vehicle suffered an instantant, total loss of all 12V electrical auxiliary power. The dashboard flashed 'Hybrid System Malfunction' and 'Drive-Start Control Malfunction' before all digital instrument clusters, center infotainment displays, and cabin lights went completely dark. Power steering and braking assist dropped to emergency backup thresholds, creating an extreme safety hazard. The vehicle was moved to a dealership where it has remained disabled for 17 days waiting on factory engineering guidance.

This is a manufacturer safety recall (NHTSA #25V869) for a loose bolt inside the hybrid inverter that could cause loss of motive power or a vehicle fire. The vehicle was sold to me as new with the recall already open and unrepaired. As of this date, Toyota has not made the remedy available, more than 6 months after the recall was announced. I am concerned about driving the vehicle given the fire/power-loss risk described in the official recall notice.

On [XXX], I purchased a brand-new vehicle 2026 Toyota Camry hybrid from Post Oak Toyota (located at 5800 Tinker Diagonal, Midwest City, OK 73110). The dealership delivered this vehicle to me with an open, active safety recall that had not been fixed. We discovered the recall June 20 2026 after setting up the new Toyota app. The dealership violated federal safety regulations by finalizing the sale and delivering a brand-new vehicle with an unaddressed factory safety recall. I was placed at unnecessary risk during the week and a half I operated the vehicle. Furthermore, I have been deprived of the use of my brand-new vehicle for the vast majority of my ownership period because the dealer sold a product they could not legally or safely allow me to keep driving. I am requesting that the NHTSA investigate this dealership non-compliance and delivery violation. the specific recall involves an improperly torqued bolt inside the inverter, which can cause sudden power loss or an increased risk of fire when the vehicle is running. the vehicle has been in the outside lot from July 3rd 2026 to present day so a total of 13 days. We have requested a buyback resolution because we no longer feel safe handling a vehicle that has started its lifecycle this way. Thank you for reading our statement. Camry was sitting at the dealership since the Dec 2025 recall for a loose inverter bolt. Talked to Toyota and dealership multiple times, throughout the process, and kept being told there was no remedy and that there would not be one for a long time. Got the run around from Toyota Brand Engagement repeatedly, with no assistance except to be told I could submit a Lemon Law claim, which they then said would take at least 60 days to review. Desperate to have a vehicle back without the limitations of a loaner, I tried to buy the loaner as a resolution since I was at least used to driving it after having it for multiple months. They said they would look into this, but then said it would actually be a very lengthy process to decommission it as a loaner first, so this was not helpful solution. Since there was still no remedy on the recall, the dealership found a used vehicle similar to the loaner, but when I talked to them about how it would work financially for them to buy the recalled car back, they said my recalled vehicle had depreciation value, so trading it in would mean a loss of several thousand dollars, even though it was a brand new 2026 vehicle that was only sitting on their lot for 6 months unused because of the recall. So a used vehicle a couple yrs older would cost MORE than the original price on the 2026 new vehicle because of the RECALL which STILL has no available remedy. The latest remedy info says it would be approx Sept 2026. Toyota took an excessive amount of time and then had the audicity to charge thousands more to rebuy the camry and put me in something else because they could not fix it properly. And to top it off they had the nerve to then list the camry at a thousand dollars less then the original price despite telling me that it went down in value from the recall and time
