THERE WERE 6 PEOPLE ON VACATION HEADING OUT HIGHWAY 80 IN PENN. WE HAD SLOWED FOR CONSTRUCTION WHEN THE HYDRAULIC LEVELING SYSTEM ON THE MOTORHOME START MAKING NOISE. I KNOW THE NOISE BUT WE ARE DRIVING THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING. WE SAW SMOKE OUT THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE COACH AND THE LEVELING SYSTEM WAS ENGAGING AND DROPPED TO THE PAVEMENT. IT WAS ONLY BY CHANCE THAT WE WERE GOING SO SLOW BECAUSE OF CONSTRUCTION AS I WOULD HATE TO SEE WHAT WOULD OF HAPPENED IF WE WERE GOING THE SPEED LIMIT. WE WERE ABLE TO LIMP TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH THE LEVELERS IN DOWN POSITION. I GRABBED THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND EVERYONE JUMPED OFF THE MOTORHOME. ALTHOUGH IT NEVER CAUGHT FIRE THERE WAS LOTS OF SMOKE AND I WAS READY. ONE OF THE MEN CLIMBED UNDERNEATH AND DISCONNECTED THE HARNESS THAT RAN THE MOTOR TO THE LEVELING SYSTEM WHICH IS WHERE THE SMOKE WAS COMING FROM. WE SAT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR A LONG TIME AND ONE BY ONE THE MEN WERE ABLE TO GET THE LEVELERS BACK UP AND DISCONNECT THE LEVELING SYSTEM. THE VACATION DID NOT GO AS PLANNED, WE DID GET IT FIXED A WEEK LATER AFTER VACATION WAS OVER. *TR

Nov 22, 2017

Thor Motor Coach (Thor) is recalling various 2003-2018 recreational vehicles, equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. See a list of the affected trailer models at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V758-5764.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.

Remedy: Thor will notify owners, instructing them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began on January 15, 2018. Owners may contact Thor customer service at 1-877-500-1020, or Kidde customer service toll-free at 1-855-262-3540, or online at www.kidde.com and click on "Product Safety Recall" for more information.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the BCC fails, all power may be lost to the motorhome chassis, including all lighting, making the vehicle very difficult to operate, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Thor will notify owners, and dealers will rewire the BCC free of charge. The recall began on July 30, 2013. Customers may contact Thor at 1-877-855-2867. Thor's recall campaign number is RC000077.
