The transmission failed AT SPEED, with only 2,000 miles on the vehicle since purchased NEW, while TOWING >10,000 lbs 40 ft travel trailer. These trucks are built to tow, you don’t own 1-ton trucks without the intent to tow a good bit of weight. As per the research gathered by owner community of Ram HD owners, this issue is widespread on 2022-2023 Ram HD trucks with High Output motor paired with Aisin transmission. Problem is known by Ram, no warning to owners, hundreds of transmissions on failing during use. Vehicle is available for inspection if needed. Complete transmission failure in traffic while towing GCVW ~18,000 posed high risk of accident between our vehicle and surrounding traffic. Fortunately we were in right hand lane and able to move to shoulder fairly quickly. Problem reproduced hundreds of times in the field, and widely known (reference https://www.tsbsearch.com/RAM/21-002-23). This however does not warn of the extreme nature of these failures that are in almost every case when under use.. transmission are blowing up under heavy tows. No warning lamps prior to failure, vehicle becomes completely inoperable once it fails. No data available to “know if affected” beyond manufacturing date. The contact was able to coast to the side of the roadway and had the vehicle towed to the dealer. The dealer informed the contact that the K1 clutch pack had failed. The contact related the failure to NHTSA ID Number: 21-002-23 (Power Train, Exterior Lighting) however, the dealer had not checked the K2 portion of the repair which implied that the vehicle may not have had a complete repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 20,667.

While driving my new Ram truck towing our camper on I 95 around the DC area, I heard and felt a pop noise and our transmission failed. My truck only has 3000 miles on it. I’m discovering that Ram is aware of this issue and won’t make it a recall.

Without warning the transmission failed. Along with loss of power, when the tranny failed, the ability to use the exhaust brake also fails. The ability to manually downshift fails. I was on steep winding roads in North Idaho (Elk River) when this occurred with three passengers aboard. Once I was able to stop, I was on a steep uphill grade with no forward gears or shoulder to pull over on. I had to coast in neutral back down the mountain to an appropriate site to get off the road. All of this with no forward or reverse gears. The vehicle was towed to a dealership where it was determined to have the K-1 snap ring failure in the Aisin transmission. This problem is common enough that parts to repair the transmission are on back order with no definitive eta available.

We were pulling a 32' 5th wheel at about 14,000 #. We pulled off the road and put it into park, let it sit then tried to put it into drive again and it would not go. The transmission rattled and made all kinds of noise. THERE WERE NO INDICATIONS ON THE DASH OF ANY ISSUES! We put it into park and called 911 to assist in a tow truck. We had to wait for about 1 1/2 hours for the truck. An officer came up behind the trailer as we were on a curve and blindspot. We were on the white line!!!!!!! The tow truck had to pull us (because of the 5th wheel) to the snow park parking lot. Tow truck driver had to line us up then we had to unhook the trailer so he could take it to a Dodge Dealer. We spent the night in the trailer until the next day when we had to hire another tow truck from where we lived to come pick us up and take us back home. This excursion set us up for 2 individual companies, ugh! the 1st one only went back to Boring, OR and the truck sat there until the next day to be taken to Grasham Dodge. Gresham did not have the manpower to assess the situation and or fix the problem so from Gresham Dodge had to take it to Dick Hannah in Vancouver, WA only to then be taken across the street to Dick Hannah Jeep in the overflow area. Not secured and we found the passenger window open when we went to get the rest of our stuff. Have a service team manager, Austin, from Dick Hannah CJDR to have contact with regarding our truck. I heard there is no recall on the transmissions yet but from going on to the forums and seeing all of the other Dodge Ram owners, there should be. All of this should be completely covered by Dodge even the towing as if this had not occurred, we wouldn't be in debt of $4,566.53. We lost our first vacation and probably for the rest of the summer as we had numerous ones set up. Thank you

Consequence & remedy
Consequence: A rearview camera image that does not display decreases the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2021-2023 Ram 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis, and 4500, 5500 Cab Chassis vehicles equipped with a Cummins 6.7L Turbo Diesel engine. An electrical short may occur in the heater grid relay with the ignition on or off.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: An electrical short in the relay can result in an engine compartment fire with the ignition on or off, increasing the risk of injury.
Remedy: Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will replace the relay, free of charge. This will be a Phased campaign. Phase 1 will include 2023 model year vehicles. FCA US will notify dealers on or about 3/23/2023 and begin notifying owners on or about 4/5/2023. Phase 2 will include 2022 model year vehicles and Phase 3 will include 2021 model year vehicles. FCA US will notify dealers and owners on or about 4/27/2023 for Phase 2 and 5/11/2023 for Phase 3. Consequence: An unintended tailgate opening while driving may result in a loss of unsecured cargo, possibly creating a road hazard and increasing the risk of a crash.

Consequence & remedy
Consequence: Leaking transmission fluid may contact an ignition source within the engine compartment, increasing the risk of a fire.

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Ram 2500, Ram 3500, and 2021 Ram 1500 Classic pickup trucks. The side air bag inflatable curtain (SABIC) assemblies may have been manufactured with the incorrect amount of compressed gas, which can result in an improper air bag deployment.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: An air bag that deploys improperly can increase the risk of injury in a crash.

Consequence: A vehicle fire increases the risk of injury.
Remedy: Owners are advised to park these vehicles outside of buildings or structures, and not near other vehicles, until the vehicle has been remedied. Dealers will inspect and, if needed, replace the Solid State Intake Heater Grid Relay ("Relay"); if FCA US Recall ID Y08 (NHTSA Recall ID 21V-163) is open, then insulating material will be applied to the Relay after inspection. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received 19 Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs) alleging an intermittent or complete failure of the power steering assist system in certain Model Year (MY) 2022-2023 RAM ProMaster 1500, 2500, and 3500 vehicles. Failure of the power steering assist system can result in increased steering effort required to control the vehicle. An increase in steering effort can potentially lead to a loss of directional control of the vehicle. Several received reports allege failures of the steering rack with specific reports citing water intrusion into the electrical connectors of the electric power steering control module. ODI is opening this Preliminary Evaluation (PE) to assess the scope and root cause of potential defects in 2022-2023 RAM ProMaster steering systems. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received 19 Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs) alleging an intermittent or complete failure of the power steering assist system in certain Model Year (MY) 2022-2023 RAM ProMaster 1500, 2500, and 3500 vehicles. Failure of the power steering assist system can result in increased steering effort required to control the vehicle. An increase in steering effort can potentially lead to a loss of directional control of the vehicle. Several received reports allege failures of the steering rack with specific reports citing water intrusion into the electrical connectors of the electric power steering control module. The Office of Defect Investigations (ODI) has received 82 complaints alleging loss of motive power due to an internal transmission failure of the K1 snap ring in model year 2022 Ram 3500, 4500, and 5500 vehicles. Of these complaints, 16 describe a complete loss of motive power at speeds greater than 25 miles per hour, without the ability for the vehicle to resume normal operation. The subject vehicles can be up-fit as an ambulance and other emergency response vehicle or may be heavily loaded when used for towing. During the failure event, the snap ring becomes dislodged and forward gears 1-4 are no longer functional, potentially leaving the vehicle disabled in or near the roadway and/or negatively affect the emergency mission. ODI contacted the manufacturer, FCA US, LLC d/b/a Stellantis North America (FCA), and learned that technical service bulletin (TSB) TSB-21-002-23 is related to the alleged defect condition. Additionally, FCA has conducted dynamometer and field testing and has explained to ODI that during the event a warning message will display to the operator, and gear 5 and reverse will remain available. ODI is opening this Preliminary Evaluation (PE) to evaluate the severity of the potential problem and to fully assess the potential safety-related problems.
