The dash only says to place truck in park, restart the truck and disengage the emergency parking system. This has been in the shop and they can not duplicate. Dodge is aware of what is transpiring. How is this safe and have not been recalled by dodge? I have children and grandchildren that are usually in the truck with me and this is NOT a safe vehicle to drive at this time!!! This has happened numerous times!!! What if an 18 wheeler is behind me and a fatality happens? I am an er travel nurse. There are plenty of others experiencing this and nothing has been done per the attorney I spoke with. My cell number is [XXX] should you need to contact me regarding this matter. Thank you in advance for taking care of this matter in a speedy manner. As I said prior, this could be fatal to a family due to the negligence of Dodge Ram. This truck has an intermittent problem that causes it to shut down and leaving me stranded in traffic. This shutdown has happened 8 times. It first happened on Jan-10. This is two weeks after I purchased the truck. Since then, there have been 4 attempts to fix it at dealerships. They were not been able to identifying the causes of these problems or fixing them. The Truck was out of service for 47 days while it was in for repairs. Both of these items exceed the limits of the Missouri Lemon Law. I will briefly review the nature of the problems. These 8 shut down events are not just a stalling problem. When the truck shuts down the yellow engine lights come on and the truck will not try to restart when I press the gas or restart button. In some cases, it automatically engaged the parking brake and I am not able to get the truck switch into park, neutral or reverse. Each time it took between 2 and 20 minutes to restart the truck, while I was stuck in traffic. 3 times I exited the vehicle, walked away, then locked and unlocked it. After that I was able to restart the truck. In 3 of the occurrences the red battery warning light came on. When this happens, I have about 30 min both batteries are drained and everything shuts down. Here is a summary of some of the history of these problems, Summary 1st Occurrence --- 1/10/23 (14 days after I purchased the truck). Occurrences --- 8 (7th was during a test drive at a RAM service center, on 4/25/2023). Times in shop --- 4 (at dealer service centers). Days in shop--- 47 (Out of service). Milage 1st time --- 410 (Odometer at first occurrence) Avr miles to occur --- 454Avr miles (shortest was 30, and two were over 1,000 miles) Avr time to occur --- 17Avr. Days Problem status --- not fixed. (the cause or causes have not been identified or fixed)

The engine has a mind of its own and decides not to do engine breaking even if the driver downshifts. I first noticed this at low mileage when slightly tapping on the breaks would sometimes cause engine breaking as long as I kept my foot off the accelerator. However if I down shifted for additional engine breaking on the same slope the engine would scream revving up to 6000 RPM without slowing the truck at all, NO ENGINE BREAKING! So last week this problem nearly cost my life. I was going down a mountain pass with my 4500 lb RV which is well within the advertised 7000 lb allowed towing capacity but if I let my foot off the gas, no breaking. This is normal and the driver just downshifts to introduce some breaking. So i down shifted from 5th and the engine responded with a self destructive scream reving up to 6000 RPM and yes NO ENGINE BREAKING. I did not think much of it after all I still have the breaks right? So feathered the breaks for about 10 minutes or so thinking nothing of it. Even tapping the break to tell the onboard computer I need engine breaking is not working even though it was working when minimal engine breaking was needed. Out of pure luck I decided to stop at a mountain spring to get some fresh spring water and that is when I notice wait a minute, this car is barely stopping!! I got out of the car just short of the end of the pullover spot and was greeted with the smell of burning break pads! THE FRONT BREAK PADS WERE SMOKING! What is sad is that the same RV on the same pass on my 20 year old 12 passenger van easily manages this when I down shift to second gear with some minor feathering of the breaks and never in 10 years had issue with the slightest heating of the break pads. BY DISABLING ENGINE BREAKING CHRYSLER HAS CREATED A SERIOUS INJURY HAZARD.

The truck engine stop running as I was accelerating from a stop at an intersection. It auto-shifted to park and required me to restart the truck. Thankfully this was not a busy intersection or pulling out on a highway. This is the 2nd time it has happened in less than 30 days. In my opinion, this is a major safety hazard that needs more attention given by the manufacturer. Someone could be seriously injured if this happens in a busy intersection. There were no warnings or messages at the time of the failure. The next step is bringing it to the service center.

While driving down the road the battery falls rapidly from 14 to 11.8 or less causing the battery light and engine light to come on, and the unit to start losing power and die. The truck has been in the shop several times with still no repairs completed. They have given me back the unit telling me there’s nothing they can do and not sure what is causing it. The ecm data has pulled several codes, but yet the dealer still won’t repair based on those codes. I have been told sorry, there’s nothing further we can do. Mean while the truck continues to die while driving down the road which has put me and my family’s life in danger when the unit just rapidly dies and there’s no time to exit a freeway causing you to shut down the unit in the middle of the road. Hoping you can get it restarted and on your way before someone hit you. This vehicle is unsafe to drive, and has been an on going problem for 10 months now. It’s been in two separate shops and still no repairs and ram care has refused to send a tech out to assist. The unit was taken into the shop for a 3rd time with engine, battery light on while dying and I was told sorry, they don’t have time to look into it. Not it’s back in for the 4th time, and still no repairs have been made. I was told the codes that it’s pulling out the ECM data cost over $15,000 in repairs and they are not going to go that way unless they know exactly which part will fix it issue to take the truck back and they’re sorry. sorry it does not save me and my family‘s life when the unit dies in the middle of a road and someone slams into you on a freeway again. This is putting my families life at risk, which eventually will cause a fatality. Ram still has done nothing. No assistance. I am not out 80k for a unit that is not safe to drive and un tradable!

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received 80 consumer complaints alleging an engine stall and loss of motive power on model year (MY) 2022 RAM 1500 pickup trucks and 2022 Jeep Wagoneer SUV vehicles. The particular engines in the subject vehicles are equipped with the Fiat Chrysler Automotive Group LLC (FCA) 5.7L Hemi eTorque system. The eTorque system is a mild hybrid system that lets the vehicle partially power itself. It accomplishes this by converting the captured energy from the braking system into electricity for the battery pack, which is then used to power a variety of electrical components. ETorque engines replace the alternator with a 48-volt battery-powered belt drive and a motor generator. The motor generator provides extra torque to the crankshaft during gear changes. Simultaneously, the motor generator uses the 48-volt battery pack to increase torque. Many of the complaints state that the vehicle's engine would shut off, often while travelling at slow speed, the vehicle would shift into park and apply the emergency brake. The vehicles were sometimes able to be restarted. In addition, complaints state that the malfunction warning light with the battery fault symbol appeared on the dash. Many complaints state that a low voltage condition fault is present, sometimes not being able to restart the vehicle. On April 13, 2023, FCA announced recall 23V-265 describing a defect in certain 2021 Ram 1500 vehicles equipped with 5.7L eTorque engines. The recall described a defect in the powertrain control module software can cause an incorrect fuel mixture condition in the engine, and result in an engine stall. In February of 2024, ODI provided the complaints on the 2022 Ram 1500 and Wagoneer vehicles to FCA. After reviewing the complaints, FCA stated that “the loss of motive power was likely not caused by an over rich fuel condition (as outlined in recall 23V-265), but rather some other cause (e.g., an electrical concern that causes the engine to shut down).” A Preliminary Evaluation has been opened to assess the scope, frequency, root cause(s) and consequences of these loss/stall of motive power incidents. Additionally, ODI may expand the scope of the subject population during the investigation, if needed. To review the ODI reports cited in the Opening Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.

EA23001 · High Pressure Fuel Pump Failure
Opened Mar 17, 2023 · No close date supplied
Status: open (inferred from source dates) · Fuel System, Diesel:delivery:fuel Pump
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE21-021 on October 14, 2021, to investigate incidents alleging a stall/loss of motive power as a result of high-pressure fuel pump failures in certain model year (MY) 2019-2020 Ram 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 heavy duty trucks equipped with 6.7L Cummins turbodiesel engines. During the investigation, ODI sought to determine if the related defect allegation was limited in scope to the recalled population. After review of information request response materials from both FCA and BMW, NHTSA determined that sufficient information to identify a comprehensive recall population could not be produced by FCA and BMW.During the investigation FCA filed recalls 22V406, 22E048, 22V767, and 22E087 which include vehicles not identified in the initial subject population by ODI. ODI also received recall 21V586, involving loss of motive power due to failed CP4 fuel pumps on certain BMW manufactured vehicles. An information request letter response received from BMW indicated that failed pumps on their vehicles were caused by an interaction between pump internal components and US market diesel fuel, leading to increased slip and eventual particle-generating wear surface. Additional work will be done to identify whether a similar root cause is associated with the FCA recalled population and if similar wear dynamics occur on pumps supplied to vehicle manufacturers other than those included in the recalled population.ODI has upgraded this investigation to an EA in order to 1) determine engineering specifications of internal pump components that are correlated with pump failure leading to loss of motive power or other safety related hazards, 2) identify vehicle populations equipped with alleged defective pump variants, 3) assess if vehicles equipped with alleged defective pump variants result in an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety and 4) gather and review any other relevant information related to high pressure fuel pump failure associated with the subject populations of recalls 21V586, 21V880, 21E094, 22V406, 22E048, 22V767, and 22E087.Review of the above information will allow NHTSA to confirm root cause and recall remedy viability, and identify and evaluate vehicle populations equipped with pump components that may pose an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety. The ODI reports cited above can be reviewed at: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID using the following complaint identification numbers: 11257550, 11351441, 11361603, 11361616, 11365300, 11365426, 11365858, 11366401, 11372337, 11373793, 11374797, 11376793, 11377871, 11378173, 11384377, 11386063, 11387018, 11399710, 11402550, 11415339, 11418868, 11418870, 11427075, 11434276, 11436807, 11437226, 11437249, 11437273, 11437292, 11437294, 11437394, 11437399, 11437403, 11437405, 11437423, 11437528, 11437565, 11437579, 11437580, 11437590, 11437679, 11437744, 11437781, 11437842, 11437993, 11438006, 11438008, 11438121, 11438138, 11438155, 11438392, 11438629, 11439359, 11439879, 11440397, 11443030, 11446542, 11448163, 11453556, 11458918, 11460558, 11469337
