Component/system: High-voltage (HV) battery system and power electronics. 2020 Porsche Taycan Turbo, VIN [XXX] . Vehicle available for inspection. Safety risk: Since January 2025, the vehicle has repeatedly displayed a "pull over and park safely" emergency warning and shut off unexpectedly while driving at highway and surface road speeds. Sudden loss of propulsion at speed created serious collision risk. Dealer-confirmed: Porsche Woodland Hills documented (July 2025): "vehicle just shut off on him as he was driving — multiple occurrences." A second shutdown was confirmed August 2025: "vehicle shut off while driving — high voltage battery error." Four or more repair visits under my ownership for this same defect. Fault codes confirmed by authorized Porsche dealers: P0AA600 (HV Battery Voltage System Isolation Fault — highest severity), P0A4000 (Rotor Position Sensor Fault), U178800 (Front Axle Power Electronics Drive Fault), P061B00 (Torque Calculation Fault). November 2025: Porsche Downtown LA isolated all 33 battery modules, found modules 6, 19, and 32 defective — all physically replaced. Vehicle out of service 9+ weeks. Shutdown warning recurred during same visit. Porsche NA (Case #XXX) denied repurchase. Warning lamps: "Pull over and park safely" warning and HV battery error appeared suddenly before each shutdown. No gradual symptoms. Recurring since January 2025. Additional: Prior owner records show HV battery water intrusion (February 2024) requiring full battery removal and reinstallation. In July 2024, dealer cleared "numerous inactive fault codes" without disclosure prior to my purchase. Porsche NA has acknowledged the issue by offering goodwill compensation while refusing repurchase. Cumulative out-of-service days for this defect exceed 75 days across multiple repair visits. I request NHTSA investigate whether this defect exists across other Taycan vehicles and whether a recall is warranted. There is obviously a design flaw in the fan cooling system for the main high voltage 93.4 kw battery. The cooling vents allow small gravel to enter the intake ports powered by fans to cool the battery. (this is a major issue for areas of the country where gravel is used for winter road maintenance. This issues arises every snow season) Gravel gets into the ports and can possibly jamb the fan propeller blades thus not being able to cool the battery properly. I have a work order at the dealership to clean out the cooling ducts. when the gravel enters these ducts they make a grinding sound when the fans engage. The dealership reported this to the manufacturer, and the response from the manufacturer was it is not their issue. The service dealership said additional screening over the intake ports can not be done because information from the manufacturer states this would impede the necessary airflow to cool the batteries. To further bring attention to this design issue, the high voltage 93.4 kw battery failed, July 19, 2023 at 17,551 miles.

In May 2021, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened a Preliminary Evaluation (PE) of complaints received alleging a loss of motive power while in motion at any speed with no prior warning to the driver in the 2020-2021 model year (MY) Porsche Taycan electric vehicles. ODI had received 9 Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs) and several field reports. All complaints alleged that a loss of motive power occurred without warning and error messages about a battery fault displayed during or after the vehicle stalled. In the subject vehicles, a pulse-controlled inverter is mounted on each of the two drive modules on the front and rear axles. The software designed to continuously monitor end-to-end communication between the safety-related electronic control units (ECUs) in the vehicle can, in certain instances, incorrectly and sporadically detect a potentially faulty communication, set an error memory entry, and trigger a shutdown of the power train, resulting in loss of motive power. If this occurs, the affected vehicles display the warning message ?Motor control error. Stop vehicle in a safe place in the instrument cluster.Porsche has corrected the software malfunction in production. Further, Porsche is conducting a safety recall (21V-486) to upgrade the software on vehicles already in the field. In view of the recall action, this Preliminary Evaluation is closed. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by new circumstances. The ODI reports cited above can be reviewed online at nhtsa.gov under the following identification numbers: 11435775, 11433960, 11431568, 11429897, 11427688, 11426921, 11426902, 11424618, 11424613, 11424296, 11424175, 11424015, 11423458, 11423311, 11422549, 11422463, 11421593, 11421575, 11421494, 11421347, 11420845, 11420788, 11420734, 11420572, 11419756, 11419735, 11419730, 11419721, 11419422, 11418975, 11418935, 11418793, 11418705, 11418692, 11418593, 11418476, 11418405, 11418381, 11418245, 11418237, 11418153, 11418142, 11418132, 11418106, 11415110, 11414731, 11414486, 11404336, 11386164, 11383427, 11377898, 11377875, 11364083
