2007 Pontiac Grand Prix

The contact owns a 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix. The contact stated while driving at night the headlights had started to fail and would not properly illuminate. The contact stated that the fog lights and hi-beam worked as designed. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer in 2021 to be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V519000 (Exterior Lighting); however, the contact stated that following the recall repair, the headlights started to fail. The contact was informed that the vehicle would be diagnosed and repaired out-of-pocket. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 102,000.

The multifunction/turning signal switch is malfunctioning. It started in 2012 about a year after I purchased the car. The brights would randomly turn on without me touching the switch and then the brights would turn on when I'd use my turning signal. I delt with it for several years, but eventually it got so bad that the brights wouldn't even turn off at all. I would have to drive with my finger holding the switch to keep the brights off. It made it extremely difficult to drive the car, especially when I had to turn. It was very unsafe not having full control of the steering wheel just to keep the brights off. I finally decided to have the switch replaced in 2019 and it seemed to solve the issue until about 6 months ago. The brights started randomly coming on and now they are on all the time and won't shut off. I feel incredibly unsafe driving because of having to hold the switch so it stays off. I'm sure it's a nuisance/unsafe for other drivers to have bright lights in their eyes all the time while driving too. I believe the switch is faulty based on the fact that I've had two and have had the same issue with both of them.

MY 2007 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX HAD A HEADLAMP SWITCH PROBLEM. I WOULD BE DRIVING AT NIGHT AND THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD JUST GO OUT. SOMETIMES IF YOU'D KEEP THEM ON LOW BEAM YOU'D HAVE LIGHTS. BUT SOMETIMES EVEN THIS DIDN'T WORK. THERE WAS A RECALL IN THIS SO I TOOK IT IN FOR THE REPAIR. IT WORKED FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS BUT THEN QUIT WORKING AND THE LIGHTS WOULD GO OUT AGAIN. WE PARKED THE CAR FOR A WHILE. THEN GAVE IT TO MY DAUGHTER AND HER HUSBAND. WE RECENTLY GOT THE CAR BACK FROM MY DAUGHTER BECAUSE THEY HAD BECAUSE OF THE SAME REASON. THEY WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I CALLED A GM DEALERSHIP HERE IN TOWN AND THEY SAID IT WASN'T COVERED. I THEN CALLED GM DIRECTLY AND WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR.

THE TURN SIGNAL STALK THAT IS ON THE LEFT OF THE STEERING WHEEL IS DEFECTIVE. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION ON A STREET OR HIGHWAY THE BRIGHTS WILL ILLUMINATE RANDOMLY BLINDING OTHER DRIVERS. ADDITIONALLY, WHEN MAKING A TURN AND USING THE TURN SIGNAL THE BRIGHTS WILL ALSO TURN ON WHEN THE BLINKER TURNS OFF BLINDING INCOMING DRIVERS. THIS HAPPENS EVERY DAY AND ON EVERY TRIP. THERE HAS BEEN LOTS OF RESEARCH COMPLETED AND THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS OF GRAND PRIXS THAT EXPERIENCE THIS SAME PROBLEM. IN MAY 2017 MY LOW BEAMS DECIDED TO TURN ON AND OFF AND NOW THEY WILL NOT COME ON AT ALL. ALSO THE INTERIOR LIGHTS HAVE ALWAYS HAD PROBLEMS THEY HAVE NEVER FULLY TURNED ON AND ON TOP OF ALL OF THAT NOW MY LICENSE PLATE TAG LIGHT IS NOW LONGER WORKING. I HAVE CHANGED ALL OF THE BULBS AND STILL THING IS HELPING. I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT CARS.

THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS HARD TO CRANK HAD TO WIGGLE IT A FEW TIMES BUT THEY FIX THE RECALL AND MY BRAKES SYSTEM IS NOT RIGHT EVERY TIME I SWITCH BRAKE PADS OUT IT STILL DOESNT DO ANY GOOD AND DO TO THE BRAKES I HAD A FENDER BENDER BUT I FIX IT OUT OF POCKET BRAKES STILL GO TO FLOOR AND MY LIGHTS WENT OUT LIKE IT A SHORTAGE SO I GOT THEM RIG SO THAT THEY WILL WORK

THE CONTACT WAS INSTRUCTED TO BRING THE VEHICLE BACK THE NEXT DAY AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE REMEDY PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V519000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING); HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED FOR THE REPAIR WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 127,000. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
