MY 2007 PONTIAC G6 HAS REPEATING BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATING ISSUES.(REVERSE OF NORMAL FUNCTIONING). FOR ALMOST TWO YEARS (2011) THE VEHICLES BRAKE LIGHTS ILLUMINATE WHILE THE BRAKE IS NOT APPLIED. THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ON/ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING AT ALL SPEEDS AND ACTUALLY STOP ILLUMINATING WHEN THE BRAKE IS APPLIED. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING CONSISTENTLY IN WARM AND COLD WEATHER, RAINY AND DRY WEATHER. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL GM DEALERSHIP HERE IN COLUMBUS OH AND HAD THE ISSUE REPAIRED COSTING $100 WHICH SOLVED THE PROBLEM FOR APPROXIMATELY 9-12 MONTHS (2012). THE ISSUE RECURRED AFTER THE REPAIR WAS NO LONGER COVERED UNDER THE DEALERSHIPS REPAIR WARRANTY OF 12 MONTHS OR 12,000 MILES. IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS (JAN - JUNE 2013) IN ADDITION, I HAVE EXPERIENCED MALFUNCTIONS WITH MY CRUISE CONTROL, AS WELL AS UNABLE TO GET THE CAR TO MOVE FROM PARK INTO ANY OTHER GEAR FOR AS MUCH AS UP TO 30 MINS, LEAVING ME STUCK AND STRANDED, ALSO WHEN APPLYING MY FOOT TO THE BRAKE PEDAL IT FEELS LIKE THERE'S NO PADDING OR LIKE THERE'S AIR IN THE LINE, AS WELL AS A VIBRATION . I AM EXTREMELY CONCERNED FOR MY FAMILY'S SAFETY AS WELL AS THE SAFETY OF OTHER DRIVERS AS I COULD BE VERY EASILY BE REAR ENDED AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD. I HAVE EXPERIENCED VEHICLES RUNNING UP CLOSELY BEHIND ME AS THERE WAS NO INDICATION I WAS SLOWING. NOT ONLY HAVE I EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM, BUT A HANDFUL OF TIMES I HAVE ALSO SEEN OTHER 2007 G6 ON LOCAL ROADWAYS WITH ILLUMINATING BRAKE LIGHTS DURING ACCELERATION. AGAIN I AM EXTREMELY CONCERNED AND HOPE THAT WITH YOUR HELP GM WILL RECOGNIZE AND EXPEDITE THIS ISSUE AS IT IS A VERY SERIOUS AND URGENT MATTER AND ATTEMPT TO PROVIDE ME AS A OWNER THE STEPS TO ENSURE SAFETY. THANK YOU *TR

MY SON WAS DRIVING HIS 2007 PONTIAC G6 GTP ON A HIGHWAY (55 MPH SPEED LIMIT) AND SUDDENLY THE CAR DOWNSHIFTED AND STARTED SHAKING. IT STARTED TO SLOW DOWN AND HE FINALLY GOT TO OUR HOMETOWN.... THE CAR DOWNSHIFTED AGAIN, AND WENT DOWN TO 10 MPH BEFORE HE FINALLY COASTED INTO OUR DRIVEWAY. HE COULD NOT GET IT UP TO SPEED AT ALL AND HAD TO GO AS FAST AS THE TRANSMISSION WOULD ALLOW HIM IN ORDER TO GET HOME AND GET THE CAR OFF THE ROAD. THIS PROBLEM - A BROKEN 3,5,R CLUTCH WAVE PLATE - HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED VIA GM SERVICE BULLETIN 09-07-30-012 AND I AM GETTING THE RUNAROUND FROM GM ON THEM FIXING IT, ALL BECAUSE IT'S OVER 100,000 MILES. HAD THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED ON THE INTERSTATE (WHICH HE WAS ON JUST PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT), HE COULD HAVE BEEN REAR-ENDED OR EVEN KILLED FROM THE SUDDEN DROP IN SPEED SINCE THE SPEED LIMIT ON THE INTERSTATE IN IOWA IS 70 MPH). THIS PROBLEM IS WELL KNOWN, YET GM WON'T ACKNOWLEDGE IT SINCE THE COST TO REPAIR IS PHENOMENAL. GM NEEDS TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS FAULTY CLUTCH WAVE PLATE, WHICH IS ALSO A PROBLEM IN ACADIAS, BUICK ENCLAVES AND SATURN OUTLOOKS FROM 2007 - 2009. I'M SURE THIS REPAIR WILL BE VERY COSTLY, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY - MY SON COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED HAD HE NOT BEEN WHERE HE WAS WHEN IT BROKE. *TR

WE BOUGHT THIS CONVERTIBLE PONTIAC 2007 G6 ALMOST A YEAR AGO & HAD TROUBLE WITH THE TOP NOT WORKING. IT HAS BEEN WORKED ON 5 TIMES SINCE WE'VE HAD IT & RIGHT NOW STILL NOT WORKING. IF YOU TRY TO PUT IT DOWN IT WILL GET STUCK IN MID-AIR & MAY SET THERE FOR 12 HOURS BEFORE IT GOES DOWN & IT WILL SAY TOP IS NOT SECURE SO YOU CAN'T DRIVE IT LIKE THAT. PLACE WHERE WE GOT IT HAD IT ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO & SAID THEY'RE WAITING FOR A PART THAT IS ORDERED BUT WE TALKED TO THE PONTIAC DEALERSHIP THIS MORNING & THEY SAID THAT PART IS NO LONGER BEING MADE & THEY TOLD THE GUY WE THE CAR FROM IF HE COULD FIND THE PART & THEY START FIXING IT & SOMETHING ELSE IS WRONG THEY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO FIX THIS CAR. SO BASICALLY WE HAVE BEEN PAYING FOR THE CAR FOR 1 YEAR NOW - HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO USE THE TOP - MY HUSBAND HAS MISSED WORK BECAUSE THE TOP WAS SUPPOSE TO BE FIXED HE'D TRY TO PUT IT DOWN & IT GETS STUCK IN MID-AIR & YOU CAN'T PUT IT DOWN WHEN IT DOES THAT IT SETS FOR ABOUT 12 HOURS BEFORE IT WILL CLOSE ON IT'S OWN. WE CAN'T DRIVE IT WHEN IS SAYS TOP IS NOT SECURE BECAUSE IT MAY BLOW OFF & THEN SOMETIMES THE TRUNK GETS STUCK & YOU CAN'T OPEN THAT AND GET ANYTHING OUR OF IT. I AM JUST AT A LOSS HERE WE'RE PAYING FOR SOMETHING THAT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE & IF YOU DO LUCK OUT AND GET THE TOP DOWN AFTER IT'S BEEN WORKED ON YOU JUST HAVE TO PRAY THAT IT GOES BACK UP SECURELY. AND HOW CAN THEY STOP MAKING A PART FOR A CAR THAT IS ONLY A 2007 & CONVERTIBLE TOP. WE ARE JUST FRUSTRATED WITH THIS WHOLE SITUATION AND STILL HAVE TO FINISH PAYING FOR THIS CAR OR IT GOES AGAINST US. WE ARE AT A LOSS FOR WHAT TO DO ABOUT THIS. *TR

I FOUND A FIX ONLINE UNTIL I WAS PULLED OVER AGAIN BY GOOD SAMARITANS. I AM 7 MONTHS PREGNANT WITH TWO SMALL CHILDREN IN THIS VEHICLE I HAVE NO WAY TO KNOW IF THEY ARE WORKING OR NOT UNLESS MY FATHER DOES A BRAKE CHECK SOME DAYS THEY WORK SOME DAYS THEY DON'T. THIS TO ME IS HIGHLY DANGEROUS FOR CONSUMERS THAT DON'T REALIZE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN THIS VEHICLE. I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP BUT THEY ARE NOT QUITE SURE WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT. IS IT GOING TO TAKE A PREGNANT WOMEN TO GET REAR ENDED OR FOR SOMEONE TO DIE BEFORE THIS BRAKE LIGHT ISSUE IS RESOLVED. THIS IS SCARY AND DANGEROUS. *TR

15V064000 · Steering:electric Power Assist System

Feb 4, 2015

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2006-2007 Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured April 1, 2006, to June 30, 2006, and 2006-2007 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured April 18, 2006, to June 30, 2006. In the affected vehicles, there may be a sudden loss of electric power steering (EPS) assist that could occur at any time while driving.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the torque sensor assembly, free of charge. The recall began February 24, 2015. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737. GM's number for this recall is 14772. Note: This is an expansion of recall 14V-153 to cover additional vehicles built between April 1, 2006 and June 30, 2006.

May 14, 2014

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2004-2012 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured May 16, 2003, through October 11, 2012, 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, 2005-2010 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured May 26, 2004, through January 4, 2010, and 2007-2010 Saturn Aura vehicles manufactured April 24, 2006, through May 26, 2009. In the affected vehicles, increased resistance in the Body Control Module (BCM) connection may result in voltage fluctuations in the Brake Apply Sensor (BAS) circuit. These fluctuations can cause one or more of these conditions: the brake lights to illuminate without the brake pedal being pushed; the brake lights to not illuminate when the pedal is pushed; difficulty disengaging the cruise control; moving the gear shifter out of the 'PARK' position without pushing the brake; and disablement of crash avoidance features such as traction control, electronic stability control, and panic braking assist features.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Any of the above failure conditions increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will attach the wiring harness to the BCM with a spacer, apply dielectric lubricant to both the BCM and harness connector and the BAS and harness connector, and will relearn the brake pedal home position, free of charge. The manufacturer distributed an Interim letter to customers on July 14, 2014. The recall began on August 18, 2014. Owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), 1-800-762-2737 (Pontiac), 1-800-553-6000 (Saturn). GM's number for this recall is 13036.

Apr 30, 2014

General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on April 29, 2014, that they are recalling 56,214 model year 2007 and 2008 Saturn Aura vehicles. On May 22, 2014, GM increased the recall to include an additional 1,074,899 model year 2004-2008 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured from May 16, 2003, through October 5, 2007, model year 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured from June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, and model year 2005-2008 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured from May 26, 2004, through September 28, 2007, and equipped with 4-speed transmissions. The total number vehicles being recalled is now 1,131,113.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the transmission shift cable fractures while the vehicle is being driven, the transmission gear selection may not match the indicated gear and the vehicle may move in an unintended or unexpected direction, increasing the risk of a crash. Furthermore, when the driver goes to stop and park the vehicle, despite selecting the ‘PARK’ position, the transmission may not be in ‘PARK.’ If the vehicle is not in the "PARK" position there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and GM dealers will replace the shift cable assembly and mounting bracket, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-553-6000. GM's number for this recall is 14152.

CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 208, 'OCCUPANT CRASH PROTECTION.' THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER SEATS IN THESE VEHICLES ARE BUILT WITH A PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSING SYSTEM. WHEN TESTED WITH A REPRESENTATIVE, UNRESTRAINED SIX YEAR OLD CHILD, THE SYSTEM IS REQUIRED TO TURN OFF THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER'S AIRBAG. INTERFERENCE DURING SYSTEM CALIBRATION CAUSED THE SEATS TO BE OUT OF SPECIFICATION.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: THIS CAN INCREASE THE RISK OF INJURY TO A CHILD SEAT OCCUPANT DURING CERTAIN CRASH CONDITIONS.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL WILL BEGIN ON APRIL 17, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT PONTIAC AT 1-800-620-7668.

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Exterior Lighting; Exterior Lighting:brake Lights; Exterior Lighting:tail Lights

On May 14, 2014 General Motors (GM) announced a recall action (14V-252) involving model year (MY) 2004-12 Chevrolet Malibu, MY 2004-07 Malibu Maxx, MY 2005-10 Pontiac G6 and MY 2007-10 Saturn Aura vehicles. An increased resistance can develop in the Body Control Module connection systems and result in voltage fluctuations in the Brake Apply Sensor (BAS, or brake light switch) circuit that can cause the brake lamps to malfunction. As a result, and according to GM, the brake lamps may illuminate when pedal application is not being applied or may not illuminate when pedal force is applied.Additionally, the cruise control may not engage or if it is engaged it may require increased pedal travel to disengage.Pedal application may not be required to move the shift lever out of PARK or additional travel may be required to move the shift lever out of PARK. Traction control, electronic stability control (ESC) and panic brake assist features may also become disabled. These failure conditions may increase the risk of a crash. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Engineering Analysis EA13-005 on June 6, 2013 to further investigate complaints alleging that the brake lights did not operate properly on MY 2005-08 Pontiac G6 vehicles. The BAS in these vehicles produces a single analog voltage output proportional to the brake pedal's position. The BAS signal is used by various systems to determine both pedal position and rate of displacement, so a failure or inaccuracy of the signal may affect multiple systems.ODI also received similar complaints on MY 2009 Pontiac G6, MY 2004-11 Chevrolet Malibu and MY 2007-09 Saturn Aura vehicles that use the same BAS.All of these above models were included in the subject vehicle population of ODI's Information Request (IR) letter to GM.Prior to the recall announcement date, ODI received 855 reports of brake light malfunction resulting in one or several of the failure conditions.Eight (8) of the reports alleged crashes, with 1 resulting in an injury. Of these crash allegations, 2 were roll-away incidents, in which the shift interlock was moved out of PARK without pedal application and the vehicle rolled into another object.Three (3) crashes involved rear-end hits, which were believed to be due to brake light reversal.ESC/Traction Control failures were the alleged cause of 2 incidents, which resulted in unresponsive brake application and in 1 case caused the vehicle to leave the roadway. One (1) crash allegation was not counted as the circumstances of the crash were not related to any of the failure modes.ODI notes that it is difficult to determine the actual cause of incidents where brake light reversal or ESC/Traction Control failures were the alleged cause. In response to ODI's IR, GM submitted 2,268 unique reports that related to brake lamp malfunction. Combined with the data submitted during Recall Query 13-001, a total of 4,664 unique complaints were submitted.Twelve (12) of the GM reports alleged a crash, with 2 reporting minor injuries and 4 alleging property damage.Of the 12 reports, 3 involved brake light reversal allegations, 4 involved roll-away incidents and 2 involved ESC/Traction Control malfunctions. ODI did not include three (3) reports that involved allegations inconsistent with the alleged defect. This investigation is closed on the basis of GM's announcement of safety recall 14V-252.The ODI complaints cited above can be reviewed at: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID, see the attached list for ODI numbers.
