I WAS TOLD THAT GENERAL MOTORS WOULD REIMBURSE ME FOR THE FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT, EVEN IF IT WAS NOT REPLACED AT A DEALERSHIP, IF THE FUEL PUMP MIGHT BE RECALLED IN THE FUTURE. I WENT BACK TO THE OTHER FACILITY FOR THE FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT AS A RESULT. I LOOKED ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND OUT THAT GENERAL MOTORS HAD RECALLED PONTIAC G6'S FOR THE MODEL YEARS 2004-2008. MY VEHICLE HAD BEEN SMELLING OF GASOLINE FOR AWHILE WHEN STATIONARY AND I DID NOT KNOW WHY. MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ABOUT ONE MONTH PRIOR, WHERE I HAD A FUEL SENSOR CODE PULLED. ABOUT ONE WEEK LATER THE ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF. MY LEAKING FUEL PUMP WAS ONLY DISCOVERED ABOUT ONE MONTH LATER, ONLY BECAUSE I HAPPENED TO GO GET MY BRAKES CHECKED.

THAT PART IS OVER $200 SO I TRIED ANOTHER AFTERMARKET WIRE HARNESS/SOCKET THAT HAD HEAVIER GAUGE WIRE. IT WORKED FOR ABOUT 3 MONTHS AND THE BULB HAS BURNED OUT AGAIN. KEEP IN MIND EACH TIME I HAVE PURCHASED THE CORRECT LIGHT BULBS. I HAVE NOW BEEN PULLED OVER BY POLICE 3 TIMES SINCE THIS ISSUE BEGAN. EACH TIME I WAS GIVEN A WARNING BUT ALSO EACH TIME I HAD REPAIRED THE PROBLEM SHORTLY AFTER. I HAVE NOW SPENT MORE THAN $250 JUST BECAUSE THE LOW-BEAM ISSUE. THIS IS A CRITICAL SAFETY COMPONENT THAT SHOULD BE RESOLVED BY THE MANUFACTURER. THE CAUSE BEHIND THE MELTED WIRE AND SOCKET COULD CAUSE A FIRE. THIS ELECTRICAL PROBLEM HAS COST ME MONEY, TIME AND STRESS. I WISH TO NOT OWN THIS VEHICLE ANYMORE. I HAVE TALKED WITH MORE THAN 20 PONTIAC/GM DEALERS AROUND THE U.S. THEY ALL STATE; "WE HAVE BEEN TOLD BY GM TO SAY - THE PART NO LONGER EXIST AND IS NOT AVAILABLE" I WAS ALWAYS TOLD: "BY LAW AN AUTO MANUFACTURE MUST MAKE REPLACEMENT PARTS AVAILABLE FOR UP TO 10 YEARS. THE PARTS MANUFACTURE, KARMANN MADE THE PART FOR GM. THEY MAY HAVE THE PART IN THEIR WAREHOUSE. BUT, ACCORDING TO THEIR EMPLOYEE, GM WILL NOT GIVE THEIR PERMISSION TO SELL IT - EVEN TO A GM DEALER. THE WORST THING IS: I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH OVER 25 PARTS DEALERS AND THEY ALL HAVE SAID: "YOU ARE ONE OF HUNDREDS OF CALLS WE ARE GETTING ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM".. MANY SIMILAR REPORTS REFERENCE A HAIRLINE CRACK THAT FORMS OVER TIME IN THE PLASTIC ELBOW CONNECTING THE FUEL PUMP ABOVE THE GAS TANK. THE REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT COSTS APPEAR TO BE BETWEEN $700 AND $900 AND THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 47,000 MILES. THIS ISSUE IS VERY CONCERNING AS I CANNOT PARK THE CAR IN MY GARAGE FOR FEAR OF THE GAS SMELL BUILDING UP. IT SEEMS LIKE A COMMON ENOUGH ISSUE IN THE PONTIAC G6 THAT GM SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS DANGEROUS FLAW IN THEIR FUEL PUMP MODULE.

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2006-2007 Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured April 1, 2006, to June 30, 2006, and 2006-2007 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured April 18, 2006, to June 30, 2006. In the affected vehicles, there may be a sudden loss of electric power steering (EPS) assist that could occur at any time while driving.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the torque sensor assembly, free of charge. The recall began February 24, 2015. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737. GM's number for this recall is 14772. Note: This is an expansion of recall 14V-153 to cover additional vehicles built between April 1, 2006 and June 30, 2006.

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2004-2012 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured May 16, 2003, through October 11, 2012, 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, 2005-2010 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured May 26, 2004, through January 4, 2010, and 2007-2010 Saturn Aura vehicles manufactured April 24, 2006, through May 26, 2009. In the affected vehicles, increased resistance in the Body Control Module (BCM) connection may result in voltage fluctuations in the Brake Apply Sensor (BAS) circuit. These fluctuations can cause one or more of these conditions: the brake lights to illuminate without the brake pedal being pushed; the brake lights to not illuminate when the pedal is pushed; difficulty disengaging the cruise control; moving the gear shifter out of the 'PARK' position without pushing the brake; and disablement of crash avoidance features such as traction control, electronic stability control, and panic braking assist features.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Any of the above failure conditions increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will attach the wiring harness to the BCM with a spacer, apply dielectric lubricant to both the BCM and harness connector and the BAS and harness connector, and will relearn the brake pedal home position, free of charge. The manufacturer distributed an Interim letter to customers on July 14, 2014. The recall began on August 18, 2014. Owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), 1-800-762-2737 (Pontiac), 1-800-553-6000 (Saturn). GM's number for this recall is 13036.

On May 22, 2014, GM increased the recall to include an additional 1,074,899 model year 2004-2008 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured from May 16, 2003, through October 5, 2007, model year 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured from June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, and model year 2005-2008 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured from May 26, 2004, through September 28, 2007, and equipped with 4-speed transmissions. Consequence: If the transmission shift cable fractures while the vehicle is being driven, the transmission gear selection may not match the indicated gear and the vehicle may move in an unintended or unexpected direction, increasing the risk of a crash. CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 208, 'OCCUPANT CRASH PROTECTION.' THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER SEATS IN THESE VEHICLES ARE BUILT WITH A PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSING SYSTEM. WHEN TESTED WITH A REPRESENTATIVE, UNRESTRAINED SIX YEAR OLD CHILD, THE SYSTEM IS REQUIRED TO TURN OFF THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER'S AIRBAG. INTERFERENCE DURING SYSTEM CALIBRATION CAUSED THE SEATS TO BE OUT OF SPECIFICATION.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: THIS CAN INCREASE THE RISK OF INJURY TO A CHILD SEAT OCCUPANT DURING CERTAIN CRASH CONDITIONS.

Of these crash allegations, 2 were roll-away incidents, in which the shift interlock was moved out of PARK without pedal application and the vehicle rolled into another object.Three (3) crashes involved rear-end hits, which were believed to be due to brake light reversal.ESC/Traction Control failures were the alleged cause of 2 incidents, which resulted in unresponsive brake application and in 1 case caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.One (1) crash allegation was not counted as the circumstances of the crash were not related to any of the failure modes.ODI notes that it is difficult to determine the actual cause of incidents where brake light reversal or ESC/Traction Control failures were the alleged cause.In response to ODI's IR, GM submitted 2,268 unique reports that related to brake lamp malfunction. Combined with the data submitted during Recall Query 13-001, a total of 4,664 unique complaints were submitted.Twelve (12) of the GM reports alleged a crash, with 2 reporting minor injuries and 4 alleging property damage.Of the 12 reports, 3 involved brake light reversal allegations, 4 involved roll-away incidents and 2 involved ESC/Traction Control malfunctions. ODI did not include three (3) reports that involved allegations inconsistent with the alleged defect.
