BRAKES BECAME SPONGY THEN HAD PROBLEMS STOPPING THE CAR. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE BRAKES HAVE AN OPEN DESIGN AND USES INFERIOR BRAKE PADS. WITH THE OPEN DESIGN THE DISC ROTORS THEN CORRODE FROM THE WEATHER AND BECOME PITTED AND TEAR THE INFERIOR PADS TO PIECES RESULTING IN BRAKE FAILURE. *TR

AT APPROXIMATELY 35,980 MILES I BEGAN GETTING 'CLUNKING' NOISES FROM MY STEERING AT LOW SPEEDS AND WHILE TURNING. THIS IS APPARENTLY A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE PONTIAC G6. IT IS APPEARS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING COLUMN. UNFORTUNATELY I WILL HAVE OVER 36,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE BY THE TIME I CAN GET IT TO A DEALERSHIP. THIS IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT WHICH IF NOT ADDRESSED WILL EVENTUALLY CAUSE INJURY OR DEATH IF NOT ADDRESSED BY YOUR OFFICE. A REDESIGN AND RECALL IS REQUIRED FOR THIS ISSUE. DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO DIE FOR ACTION TO BE TAKEN? ADDITIONALLY, THE FACTORY BRAKES ON THE VEHICLE ARE VERY CHEAP. VENTED ROTORS ARE NEEDED BECAUSE THEY WARP AT APPROXIMATELY 20,000 MILES DUE TO HEAT. *TR

SINCE LEASING THIS VEHICLE I HAVE MANY CONCERNS OF NOT ONLY MY OWN SAFETY BUT THE SAFETY OF OTHER PEOPLE ON THE ROAD. HERE ARE THE FOLLOWING ISSUES SINCE LEASING THIS CAR: 1.REPLACED SIGNAL SWITCH LOCATED ON STEERING COLUMN ON 1/16/08 2.REPLACED RIGHT VISOR FOR MIRROR ON PASSENGER SIDE OF CAR 1/16/08 3.REPLACED BROKEN CABLE FOR RIGHT REAR WINDOW REGULATOR ON 3/14/08 4.REPLACED STEERING COLUMN ON 7/28/08 5.REPLACED FRONT BRAKES WITH HIGH END PADS ESTIMATED DATE 8/08 6.REPLACED REAR LEFT BULB FOR BRAKE LIGHTS ESTIMATED DATE 10/08 7.ABOUT A MONTH AFTER STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED THE STEERING COLUMN AGAIN WAS MAKING A CLICKING SOUND WHEN TURNING RIGHT AND LEFT AT A SLOW RATE OF SPEED. 8.INSTEAD OF REPLACING THE STEERING COLUMN THEY CHOSE TO LUBE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT INSTEAD ON 1/20/09 AND I WILL HAVE TO KEEP COMING IN WHEN THE LUBE WEARS OFF!! REALLY ME HAVING TO COME IN EVERY MONTH OR SO!! THAT WAS THEIR RESPONSE TO ME!! 9.REPLACED RADIO BECAUSE IT DIDN?T COME ON WHEN I TURNED ON THE CAR THE DISPLAY WAS BLANK. WOULD EVENTUALLY TURN ON WHEN IT WANTED TO REPLACED ON 1/20/09 ALSO IN RESEARCHING THE STEERING COLUMN PROBLEM SOME PEOPLES STEERING WHEELS HAVE LOCKED UP AND THEY WERE ALMOST INVOLVED IN ACCIDENTS AND SAID IN THERE COMPLAINT DOES SOMEBODY HAVE TO BE KILLED BEFORE GM HAS A RECALL ON THESE CARS?? IT HAS BEEN A KNOWN ISSUE SINCE THE FIRST MODEL YEAR 2005 HAS COME OUT. PER DOMINIC TORRES MY SALES REP THIS HAS BEEN A KNOWN ISSUE BUT THERE HAVE NOT BEEN VERY MANY COMPLAINTS LODGED FOR ANY RECALL. PER DOMINIC IT IS BECAUSE THE STEERING COLUMN IS ELECTRICAL INSTEAD OF USING FLUID AND THE DESIGN WAS CHANGED IN THE 2008 MODEL YEAR. GM HAS CONTACTED ME AND SAID THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO LEASE A NEW CAR TO ME TO REPLACE THIS ONE. IT WILL BE RE-POED SHORTLY. *TR

415V064000 · Steering:electric Power Assist System
Feb 4, 2015
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2006-2007 Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured April 1, 2006, to June 30, 2006, and 2006-2007 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured April 18, 2006, to June 30, 2006. In the affected vehicles, there may be a sudden loss of electric power steering (EPS) assist that could occur at any time while driving.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: If power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the torque sensor assembly, free of charge. The recall began February 24, 2015. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737. GM's number for this recall is 14772. Note: This is an expansion of recall 14V-153 to cover additional vehicles built between April 1, 2006 and June 30, 2006.

May 14, 2014
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2004-2012 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured May 16, 2003, through October 11, 2012, 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, 2005-2010 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured May 26, 2004, through January 4, 2010, and 2007-2010 Saturn Aura vehicles manufactured April 24, 2006, through May 26, 2009. In the affected vehicles, increased resistance in the Body Control Module (BCM) connection may result in voltage fluctuations in the Brake Apply Sensor (BAS) circuit. These fluctuations can cause one or more of these conditions: the brake lights to illuminate without the brake pedal being pushed; the brake lights to not illuminate when the pedal is pushed; difficulty disengaging the cruise control; moving the gear shifter out of the 'PARK' position without pushing the brake; and disablement of crash avoidance features such as traction control, electronic stability control, and panic braking assist features.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: Any of the above failure conditions increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will attach the wiring harness to the BCM with a spacer, apply dielectric lubricant to both the BCM and harness connector and the BAS and harness connector, and will relearn the brake pedal home position, free of charge. The manufacturer distributed an Interim letter to customers on July 14, 2014. The recall began on August 18, 2014. Owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), 1-800-762-2737 (Pontiac), 1-800-553-6000 (Saturn). GM's number for this recall is 13036.

Apr 30, 2014
General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on April 29, 2014, that they are recalling 56,214 model year 2007 and 2008 Saturn Aura vehicles. On May 22, 2014, GM increased the recall to include an additional 1,074,899 model year 2004-2008 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured from May 16, 2003, through October 5, 2007, model year 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured from June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, and model year 2005-2008 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured from May 26, 2004, through September 28, 2007, and equipped with 4-speed transmissions. The total number vehicles being recalled is now 1,131,113.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: If the transmission shift cable fractures while the vehicle is being driven, the transmission gear selection may not match the indicated gear and the vehicle may move in an unintended or unexpected direction, increasing the risk of a crash. Furthermore, when the driver goes to stop and park the vehicle, despite selecting the PARK position, the transmission may not be in PARK. If the vehicle is not in the "PARK" position there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.
Remedy: GM will notify owners, and GM dealers will replace the shift cable assembly and mounting bracket, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-553-6000. GM's number for this recall is 14152.

On May 14, 2014 General Motors (GM) announced a recall action (14V-252) involving model year (MY) 2004-12 Chevrolet Malibu, MY 2004-07 Malibu Maxx, MY 2005-10 Pontiac G6 and MY 2007-10 Saturn Aura vehicles. An increased resistance can develop in the Body Control Module connection systems and result in voltage fluctuations in the Brake Apply Sensor (BAS, or brake light switch) circuit that can cause the brake lamps to malfunction. As a result, and according to GM, the brake lamps may illuminate when pedal application is not being applied or may not illuminate when pedal force is applied.Additionally, the cruise control may not engage or if it is engaged it may require increased pedal travel to disengage.Pedal application may not be required to move the shift lever out of PARK or additional travel may be required to move the shift lever out of PARK. Traction control, electronic stability control (ESC) and panic brake assist features may also become disabled. These failure conditions may increase the risk of a crash. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Engineering Analysis EA13-005 on June 6, 2013 to further investigate complaints alleging that the brake lights did not operate properly on MY 2005-08 Pontiac G6 vehicles. The BAS in these vehicles produces a single analog voltage output proportional to the brake pedal's position. The BAS signal is used by various systems to determine both pedal position and rate of displacement, so a failure or inaccuracy of the signal may affect multiple systems.ODI also received similar complaints on MY 2009 Pontiac G6, MY 2004-11 Chevrolet Malibu and MY 2007-09 Saturn Aura vehicles that use the same BAS.All of these above models were included in the subject vehicle population of ODI's Information Request (IR) letter to GM.Prior to the recall announcement date, ODI received 855 reports of brake light malfunction resulting in one or several of the failure conditions.Eight (8) of the reports alleged crashes, with 1 resulting in an injury. Of these crash allegations, 2 were roll-away incidents, in which the shift interlock was moved out of PARK without pedal application and the vehicle rolled into another object.Three (3) crashes involved rear-end hits, which were believed to be due to brake light reversal.ESC/Traction Control failures were the alleged cause of 2 incidents, which resulted in unresponsive brake application and in 1 case caused the vehicle to leave the roadway. One (1) crash allegation was not counted as the circumstances of the crash were not related to any of the failure modes.ODI notes that it is difficult to determine the actual cause of incidents where brake light reversal or ESC/Traction Control failures were the alleged cause. In response to ODI's IR, GM submitted 2,268 unique reports that related to brake lamp malfunction. Combined with the data submitted during Recall Query 13-001, a total of 4,664 unique complaints were submitted.Twelve (12) of the GM reports alleged a crash, with 2 reporting minor injuries and 4 alleging property damage.Of the 12 reports, 3 involved brake light reversal allegations, 4 involved roll-away incidents and 2 involved ESC/Traction Control malfunctions. ODI did not include three (3) reports that involved allegations inconsistent with the alleged defect. This investigation is closed on the basis of GM's announcement of safety recall 14V-252.The ODI complaints cited above can be reviewed at: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID, see the attached list for ODI numbers.

GM NOTIFIED THE AGENCY BY LETTER DATED JANUARY 28, 2009, THAT IT WILL CONDUCT A SAFETY RECALL OF PONTIAC G6 VEHICLES BUILT FROM JANUARY 3 THROUGH JANUARY 31, 2005.VEHICLES PRODUCED DURING THIS TIME PERIOD HAVE SHOWN A HIGHLY ELEVATED INCIDENT RATE OF IMPROPER OPERATION OF THE BRAKE LAMPS. ODI OPENED THIS INVESTIGATION AFTER RECEIVING REPORTS THAT CONSUMERS WOULD USE THEIR BRAKES AND DISCOVER THAT THE BRAKE LAMPS WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE.ALSO, CONSUMERS REPORT THAT THE BRAKE LAMPS WOULD ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS NOT APPLIED.ODI'S REVIEW OF THE COMPLAINT DATA FINDS THAT THE COMPLAINT RATE FOR THE JANUARY 2005 PRODUCTION IS 20 TIMES GREATER THAN FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE SUBJECT VEHICLE POPULATION.LIKEWISE, THE WARRANTY RATE FOR THE JANUARY 2005 PRODUCTION IS 11 TIMES GREATER THAN FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE SUBJECT VEHICLE POPULATION.IN ITS LETTER TO THE NHTSA, GENERAL MOTORS (GM) EXPLAINED THAT THE PRIMARY CAUSE OF THIS BRAKE CONDITION WAS FRETTING CORROSION (OXIDATION) OF THE CONNECTOR PINS ON THE BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) THAT CONNECT TO THE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL POSITION SENSOR (BPPS).THE CORROSION PREVENTS THE BCM FROM RECEIVING THE CORRECT SIGNAL VOLTAGE FROM THE BPPS.IN DECEMBER 2008, GM RELEASED TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (TSB) #08-05-22-009 TO PROVIDE TECHNICIANS THE CORRECT REPAIR PROCEDURES FOR SUBJECT VEHICLES THAT EXPERIENCE IMPROPER ILLUMINATION OF THE BRAKE LAMPS.THIS ACTION TAKEN BY GM IS SUFFICIENT TO RESOLVE THE ISSUES RAISED BY THIS INVESTIGATION.
