AT LEAST TWICE A WEEK SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM A PREVIOUS OWNER, THE POWER STEERING WOULD LOCK ON ME AND I AM UNABLE TO STEER ANYMORE. THIS WOULD HAPPEN ANYWHERE FROM GOING 10MPH TO 70MPH. THE ONLY WAY THAT I COULD STEER AGAIN IS TO TURN OFF THE CAR AND TURN IT BACK ON AS I AM MOVING THE STEERING WHEEL TO UNLOCK IT. THANKFULLY I MANAGED TO PREVENT ANY ACCIDENTS BUT IT IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMETHING HAPPENS. I TOOK THE CAR TO A DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD IT WAS FIXED BUT FEW WEEKS LATER SAME PROBLEM. I WOULD BE DRIVING ON A MAIN ROAD AND RIGHT BEFORE I HAVE TO TURN IT LOCKS ON ME SO I HAVE TO TURN OFF THE CAR IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD TO UNLOCK IT. THIS IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT IT. I CANNOT AFFORD TO KEEP SPENDING MONEY TO FIX THIS ISSUE. THIS WAS A PROBLEM WITH A G5 AND THEY DID A RECALL ON IT. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT THE SAME PROBLEM IS HAPPENING TO G6 NOW AND THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I CALLED GM SEVERAL TIMES BUT THEY SAID BECAUSE THIS IS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM MY 10 YEAR POWER TRAIN WARRANTY WONT COVER IT AND THEREFORE THEY WONT EVEN TAKE A LOOK AT IT (UNLESS I PAY OUT OF POCKET). NEVER AGAIN WILL I BUY A GM CAR. *TR

I FINANCED THIS USED CAR IN 2010 AT 27,000 MILES. SINCE I HAVE HAD THIS CAR I HAVE NOT HAD THE CHANCE TO REALLY ENJOY IT BECAUSE I AM CONSTANTLY FIXING ON IT. I AVE HAD A LOT OF PROBLEMS. I HAVE REPLACED BRAKES 2X ONCE WITH ROTORS AND THEY ARE GOIN OUT AGAIN INCLUDING ROTORS. I AM CONSTANTLY REPLACING TIRES. MY STEERING WHEEL POPS WHEN TURNING AND I HAVE HAD THIS FIXED ONCE. TRACTION GONE. HAD HEAT/AIR ON AND SMOKE SMELLING LIKE A FIRECRACKER CAME FROM PASSENGER DASHBOARD. MY BIGGEST PROBLEM RIGHT NOW IS THAT I HAD THE WHOLE SUSPENSION SYSTEM REPLACED AND NOW I AM CONSTANTLY REPLACING THE LUGS ON MY FRONT LEFT TIRE BECAUSE THE CONSTANTLY POP OFF. BRAKE LIGHTS AND HEADLIGHTS CONSTANTLY GOES OUT. AIR BAG, ENGINE, AND TRACTION LIGHT GOES ON AND OFF (SOMETIMES STAYING ON). POWER IN DRIVER DOOR GONE OUT FOR WINDOWS RESULTING IN 3 WINDOWS UNABLE TO ROLL UP/DOWN BUT WILL WORK WHEN WANTS. ONLY ONE WILL GO DOWN USING ITS OWN PANEL. REPLACED A CRACK IN LCA. REMOTE STARTER GONE OUT. CAR WHEEL SHAKES OCCASIONALLY. INTERIOR LIGHTS DOESN'T WORK EXCEPT FRONT DASHBOARD BUT MINUS WHERE GEAR SHAFT AT (WENT OUT AFTER SMOKE FROM DASHBOARD). NEEDS STRUTS TO BE REPLACED. ALSO JERKS WITH A HUGE POP THAT YOU CAN FEEL WHEN PUTTING CAR IN GEAR. WHEN ACCELERATING YOU CAN FEEL IT SHIFT GEARS. I AM CURRENTLY ONLY AT ABOUT 83000 MILES. NOTHING BUT TROUBLE. SCARED SERIOUS ACCIDENT MAY HAPPEN BECAUSE OF THE LUGS CONSTANTLY POPPIN OFF. WE DON'T KNOW WHY. I CALLED PONTIAC AND GM AND NO RECALLS ON THIS CAR EXCEPT POWER-TRAIN AND WARRANTY FOR TRANS AND NONE OF THIS WAS COVERED BY WARRANTY OR THEM PERIOD. TIRED OF THIS CAR SO TIRED!! GM AND PONTIAC NEED TO DO SOMETHING THIS IS TERRIBLE TO ONLY BE A 2007. *TR

WHEN LEAVING WORK ONE NIGHT I PUT THE CAR IN GEAR AND HEARD A WARNING BELL. I NOTICED THAT THE WORDS POWER STEERING LIT UP ON MY RADIO CONSOLE. I FIGURED IT WAS LOW ON FLUID AND DECIDED TO CHECK IT WHEN I GOT HOME. DURING THE 15 MINUTE DRIVE TO MY HOUSE THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON SEVERAL MORE TIMES EACH TIME I WAS COMING TO A STOP AND/ OR TURNING. ONCE HOME I FOUND THAT THERE WAS NO WAY FOR ME TO FILL OR EVEN CHECK THE FLUID LEVELS. IT HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE AND THE POWER STEERING HAS BEGUN TO FAIL. I HAD THE CAR CHECKED OUT AT A DEALERSHIP( AS INSTRUCTED IN THE OWNERS MANUAL) BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO PULL A CODE NOR HAD THEY EVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM. THIS CAR IS GENERALLY DRIVEN BY MY WIFE AND THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. *TR

THIS WAS THE FIRST OCCURRENCE OF STEERING PROBLEMS - A THUMPING NOISE WHEN TURNING LEFT AND ACCELERATING - INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT, IT WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. ON 07-18-2012. I WAS DRIVING THE CAR WHEN I FELT IT WOULD NOT PROPERLY TURN- HAD TO FORCE STEERING WHEEL. ON 07-19-2012 MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AND THE CAR WOULD NOT MAKE A 130 DEGREE RIGHT TURN. SHE WOUND UP IN THE OPPOSING LANE OF TRAFFIC. THE CAR WAS REPAIRED THE NEXT DAY, THE STEERING RACK GEAR HAD TO BE REPLACED. THIS VEHICLE HAD ONLY 39,002 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. THE CAR WAS NEVER IN AN ACCIDENT AND WAS VERY WELL MAINTAINED. I TALKED TO CUSTOMER SERVICE AT GENERAL MOTORS, PONTIAC DIVISION BECAUSE I FEEL THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN WITH SUCH LOW MILEAGE. I ASKED FOR SOME REIMBURSEMENT, WHICH THEY REFUSED, BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO GET THIS REPORTED. I HOPE THIS GETS LOOKED INTO AND PERHAPS A LIFE SAVED. THANK YOU *TR

ON HIGHWAY TRAVELING OUT OF TOWN AVERAGING 60-65 IN MY 2007 PONTIAC G6 I LIGHTLY PRESSED BRAKES APPROACHING AN EXIT FOR GAS WHEN A THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED SHAKING. I HAD TO PRESS THE BRAKES AGAIN TO STOP AFTER EXITING THE HIGHWAY TO STOP. THE SHAKING WAS NOTICEABLY WORSE. I PURCHASED THE CAR USED ABOUT 2 MONTHS BEFORE THIS EVENT SO I DID NOT EXPECT ANY BRAKE ISSUES. AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS MY WIFE MENTIONED A NOISE FROM THE BRAKES. I HAD THE BRAKES INSPECTED AND THE SERVICE PERSON SAID THE BRAKES WERE FINE BUT MY FRONT AND REAR STRUTS WERE BAD. I ASKED HIM IF THIS WOULD CAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL TO SHAKE WHEN BREAKING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND HE SAID YES. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP OF PURCHASE AND THEY DID A BRAKE INSPECTION EVEN THOUGH I ASKED TO HAVE THE STRUTS LOOKED AT AND STATED THAT ROTORS WERE WARPED. AFTER THIS I SEARCHED FOR PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING ON THE MODEL AND YEAR OF MY CAR. I FOUND THOUSANDS OF CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS OF ALL THE SYMPTOMS AND ISSUES I WAS HAVING. I DID FIND A SERVICE BULLETIN ABOUT THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT IN THE STEERING.TECHNICAL BULLETIN NO.: 06-02-32-007G DATE: APRIL 05, 2010 SUBJECT: CLUNK, KNOCK OR RATTLE NOISE FROM FRONT OF VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING OR TURNING OVER BUMPS AT LOW SPEEDS (DIAGNOSE NOISE AND PERFORM OUTLINED REPAIR) MODELS: 2004-2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU MAXX 2004-2008 CHEVROLET MALIBU CLASSIC 2008-2010 CHEVROLET MALIBU 2005-2010 PONTIAC G6 2007-2010 SATURN AURA SUPERCEDE: THIS BULLETIN IS BEING REVISED TO UPDATE THE PARTS INFORMATION FOR THE BOLT. PLEASE DISCARD CORPORATE BULLETIN NUMBER 06-02-32-007F (SECTION 02 - STEERING. AT THIS POINT I BELIEVE A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED ON THE ENTIRE FRONT SUSPENSION INCLUDING THE FACTORY ROTORS WHICH WARP WITHIN 2K-3K MILES. RE-SURFACING THESE ROTORS INCREASES THE BRAKING PROBLEM. AND A NON-METALLIC CERAMIC BRAKE PAD SHOULD BE INSTALLED BY A GM CERTIFIED SERVICE DEPARTMENT. *TT

WHEN THE WEATHER GETS HOTTER AND TOWARDS THE SUMMER MONTHS, EVERY TIME I START UP THE CAR MAKE A TURN, I GET AN ILLUMINATION ON MY RADIO THAT READS "POWER STEERING" AND MY POWER STEERING SHUTS OFF, MAKING IT EXTREMELY HARD TO TURN THE WHEEL AND NAVIGATE THE VEHICLE. MULTIPLE TIMES IT HAS HAPPENED WHILE TRYING TO TURN ONTO A BUSY ROAD, CAUSING NEAR ACCIDENTS DUE TO SUDDEN LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. I HAVE CALLED THE PONTIAC DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THEY HAD HEARD NOTHING OF THIS ISSUE. FROM READING MANY ARTICLES ONLINE, I FIND THAT VERY HARD TO BELIEVE AND I THINK THIS IS AN ISSUE MANY PEOPLE WOULD LIKE TO BE SOLVED. THEY ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE G5 SERIES FOR POWER STEERING FAILURE, BUT NOT THE G6 WHICH SEEMS TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS. *TR

15V064000 · Steering:electric Power Assist System

Feb 4, 2015

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2006-2007 Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured April 1, 2006, to June 30, 2006, and 2006-2007 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured April 18, 2006, to June 30, 2006. In the affected vehicles, there may be a sudden loss of electric power steering (EPS) assist that could occur at any time while driving.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the torque sensor assembly, free of charge. The recall began February 24, 2015. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737. GM's number for this recall is 14772. Note: This is an expansion of recall 14V-153 to cover additional vehicles built between April 1, 2006 and June 30, 2006.

May 14, 2014

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2004-2012 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured May 16, 2003, through October 11, 2012, 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, 2005-2010 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured May 26, 2004, through January 4, 2010, and 2007-2010 Saturn Aura vehicles manufactured April 24, 2006, through May 26, 2009. In the affected vehicles, increased resistance in the Body Control Module (BCM) connection may result in voltage fluctuations in the Brake Apply Sensor (BAS) circuit. These fluctuations can cause one or more of these conditions: the brake lights to illuminate without the brake pedal being pushed; the brake lights to not illuminate when the pedal is pushed; difficulty disengaging the cruise control; moving the gear shifter out of the 'PARK' position without pushing the brake; and disablement of crash avoidance features such as traction control, electronic stability control, and panic braking assist features.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Any of the above failure conditions increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will attach the wiring harness to the BCM with a spacer, apply dielectric lubricant to both the BCM and harness connector and the BAS and harness connector, and will relearn the brake pedal home position, free of charge. The manufacturer distributed an Interim letter to customers on July 14, 2014. The recall began on August 18, 2014. Owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), 1-800-762-2737 (Pontiac), 1-800-553-6000 (Saturn). GM's number for this recall is 13036.

Apr 30, 2014

General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on April 29, 2014, that they are recalling 56,214 model year 2007 and 2008 Saturn Aura vehicles. On May 22, 2014, GM increased the recall to include an additional 1,074,899 model year 2004-2008 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured from May 16, 2003, through October 5, 2007, model year 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured from June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, and model year 2005-2008 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured from May 26, 2004, through September 28, 2007, and equipped with 4-speed transmissions. The total number vehicles being recalled is now 1,131,113.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the transmission shift cable fractures while the vehicle is being driven, the transmission gear selection may not match the indicated gear and the vehicle may move in an unintended or unexpected direction, increasing the risk of a crash. Furthermore, when the driver goes to stop and park the vehicle, despite selecting the ‘PARK’ position, the transmission may not be in ‘PARK.’ If the vehicle is not in the "PARK" position there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and GM dealers will replace the shift cable assembly and mounting bracket, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-553-6000. GM's number for this recall is 14152.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and GM dealers will replace the shift cable assembly and mounting bracket, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-553-6000. GM's number for this recall is 14152.

Power Train:automatic Transmission

CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 208, 'OCCUPANT CRASH PROTECTION.' THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER SEATS IN THESE VEHICLES ARE BUILT WITH A PASSENGER AIR BAG SENSING SYSTEM. WHEN TESTED WITH A REPRESENTATIVE, UNRESTRAINED SIX YEAR OLD CHILD, THE SYSTEM IS REQUIRED TO TURN OFF THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER'S AIRBAG. INTERFERENCE DURING SYSTEM CALIBRATION CAUSED THE SEATS TO BE OUT OF SPECIFICATION.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: THIS CAN INCREASE THE RISK OF INJURY TO A CHILD SEAT OCCUPANT DURING CERTAIN CRASH CONDITIONS.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL WILL BEGIN ON APRIL 17, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT PONTIAC AT 1-800-620-7668.

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Exterior Lighting; Exterior Lighting:brake Lights; Exterior Lighting:tail Lights

On May 14, 2014 General Motors (GM) announced a recall action (14V-252) involving model year (MY) 2004-12 Chevrolet Malibu, MY 2004-07 Malibu Maxx, MY 2005-10 Pontiac G6 and MY 2007-10 Saturn Aura vehicles. An increased resistance can develop in the Body Control Module connection systems and result in voltage fluctuations in the Brake Apply Sensor (BAS, or brake light switch) circuit that can cause the brake lamps to malfunction. As a result, and according to GM, the brake lamps may illuminate when pedal application is not being applied or may not illuminate when pedal force is applied.Additionally, the cruise control may not engage or if it is engaged it may require increased pedal travel to disengage.Pedal application may not be required to move the shift lever out of PARK or additional travel may be required to move the shift lever out of PARK. Traction control, electronic stability control (ESC) and panic brake assist features may also become disabled. These failure conditions may increase the risk of a crash. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Engineering Analysis EA13-005 on June 6, 2013 to further investigate complaints alleging that the brake lights did not operate properly on MY 2005-08 Pontiac G6 vehicles. The BAS in these vehicles produces a single analog voltage output proportional to the brake pedal's position. The BAS signal is used by various systems to determine both pedal position and rate of displacement, so a failure or inaccuracy of the signal may affect multiple systems.ODI also received similar complaints on MY 2009 Pontiac G6, MY 2004-11 Chevrolet Malibu and MY 2007-09 Saturn Aura vehicles that use the same BAS.All of these above models were included in the subject vehicle population of ODI's Information Request (IR) letter to GM.Prior to the recall announcement date, ODI received 855 reports of brake light malfunction resulting in one or several of the failure conditions.Eight (8) of the reports alleged crashes, with 1 resulting in an injury. Of these crash allegations, 2 were roll-away incidents, in which the shift interlock was moved out of PARK without pedal application and the vehicle rolled into another object.Three (3) crashes involved rear-end hits, which were believed to be due to brake light reversal.ESC/Traction Control failures were the alleged cause of 2 incidents, which resulted in unresponsive brake application and in 1 case caused the vehicle to leave the roadway. One (1) crash allegation was not counted as the circumstances of the crash were not related to any of the failure modes.ODI notes that it is difficult to determine the actual cause of incidents where brake light reversal or ESC/Traction Control failures were the alleged cause. In response to ODI's IR, GM submitted 2,268 unique reports that related to brake lamp malfunction. Combined with the data submitted during Recall Query 13-001, a total of 4,664 unique complaints were submitted.Twelve (12) of the GM reports alleged a crash, with 2 reporting minor injuries and 4 alleging property damage.Of the 12 reports, 3 involved brake light reversal allegations, 4 involved roll-away incidents and 2 involved ESC/Traction Control malfunctions. ODI did not include three (3) reports that involved allegations inconsistent with the alleged defect. This investigation is closed on the basis of GM's announcement of safety recall 14V-252.The ODI complaints cited above can be reviewed at: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID, see the attached list for ODI numbers.
