ON SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 2011, I WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT WHEN I LOST CONTROL OF MY 2007 PONTIAC G6. THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED IN THE AFTERNOON, THE WEATHER WAS CLEAR AND THERE WAS NO PRECIPITATION. I WAS TRAVELING SOUTHBOUND, IN THE LEFT LANE, PASSING A VEHICLE, WHEN SUDDENLY I LOST CONTROL OF MY 2007 PONTIAC G6. THE CAR FELT LIKE IT STARTED TO SWERVE TO THE RIGHT. I TRIED TO CORRECT IT AND THE STEERING WAS HARD, I COULDN'T MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL AND HAD NO CONTROL OF THE CAR. IT WAS VERY SCARY, AS I SWERVED BACK AND FORTH AND FINALLY CROSSED THROUGH THE RIGHT LANE. LUCKILY MY CAR WAS STOPPED BY A GUARD RAIL AND WAS FACING NORTHBOUND. THE DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE WITH A FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH AND REPLACED IT. THIS WAS THE SCARIEST MOMENT OF MY LIFE. I SAW MY LIFE FLASH IN FRONT OF ME, THERE WERE SEVERAL VEHICLES TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AND I ENVISIONED A PILE UP. LUCKILY, THE OTHER DRIVERS WERE ABLE TO AVOID HITTING MY VEHICLE. PLEASE CONSIDER ADDING THE 2007 PONTIAC G6 TO THE RECALL THAT WAS RECENTLY ANNOUNCED, WHICH INCLUDED THE 2007 PONTIAC G5. THIS ALMOST COST ME MY LIFE. *TR

I CANNOT REMOVE MY KEY FROM THE IGNITION IN THE MORNING BEFORE MY CAR WARMS UP. IF I STOP TO GET GAS IN THE MORNING, I HAVE TO LEAVE THE KEY IN THE IGNITION BECAUSE IT GETS STUCK IN THE KEY IGNITION. ONLY AFTER MY CAR WARMS UP WILL I BE ABLE TO REMOVE MY KEY. *TR

SMALL STREAM OF WHITE SMOKE BEGAN TO EMIT FROM THE STEERING COLUMN, SUDDENLY THE CHIME WENT ON AND THE POWER STEERING FAILED. DROVE VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP WHO ADVISED ME THE ISSUE IS A COMMON ELECTRICAL FAILURE IN G6 MODELS AND THAT SEVERAL OTHER YEARS HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUE, BUT NOT 2007. DEALER ADVISED ME TO HOLD ON TO THE RECEIPT FOR REIMBURSEMENT IN THE EVENT THAT GM DOES RECALL THE 2007 MODEL. AFTER WAITING NEARLY TWO YEARS, I DECIDED TO ISSUE A LETTER TO GM REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT. ON 2/6/14 I WAS CONTACTED BY GM CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVES WHO EXPLAINED A RECALL WAS NOT IN PLACE AND THEREFORE THEY WOULD NOT REIMBURSE. I WAS FURTHER ADVISED BY GM REPRESENTATIVE 'JOSEPH' THAT GM IS "NOT A CHARITY" AND THAT I WOULD JUST HAVE TO "DEAL WITH IT." IN A FINAL EFFORT TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE I REQUESTED A VOUCHER TOWARD A NEW GM PURCHASE INSTEAD OF REIMBURSEMENT AS SIGN OF GOOD-FAITH THAT GM WOULD STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCTS; THIS REQUEST WAS ALSO DENIED. GM REPRESENTATIVES ALSO REFUSED TO ISSUE ME A WRITTEN EXPLANATION OF DENIAL. I AM ABLE TO PROVIDE A COPY OF THE SERVICE INVOICE AND PROOF OF OWNERSHIP AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. *TR

NEXT ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO MY RIGHT HEADLIGHT LOW BEAM WENT OUT AND MY BOYFRIEND TOOK OUT LIGHT AND NOTICED THE WIRES WERE COMPLETELY BURNED OFF FINALLY GOT THAT REPLACED. WHEN I GOT MY CONVERTER REPLACED THEY TOLD ME THE MILEAGE WOULD GET BETTER AND THE GAS SMELL WOULD GO AWAY A YEAR LATER NOW ITS GETTING WORSE AND I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY A FRIEND THAT ITS MY FUEL PUMP AND ITS LEAKING GAS . I HAVE BEEN DRIVING AROUND WITH MY 1 YEAR OLD SON WITH A GAS LEAK FOR A YEAR WHICH SCARES ME AND ALSO MAKES ME UPSET ESPECIALLY WHEN I SEE THAT THE G5 WAS RECALLED FOR THIS ISSUE ALSO AND ITS COMMON BECAUSE THEY ARE PUTTING ME AND MY FAMILY AT RISK BY NOT EXTENDING THE RECALL TO THE G6 SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. NOW IM LEFT TO FIGURE OUT A WAY TO FIX THIS WHEN IM A ONE CAR ONE INCOME FAMILY . PLEASE HELP AND PLEASE FIX THIS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. *TR

15V064000 · Steering:electric Power Assist System

Feb 4, 2015

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2006-2007 Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured April 1, 2006, to June 30, 2006, and 2006-2007 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured April 18, 2006, to June 30, 2006. In the affected vehicles, there may be a sudden loss of electric power steering (EPS) assist that could occur at any time while driving.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the torque sensor assembly, free of charge. The recall began February 24, 2015. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737. GM's number for this recall is 14772. Note: This is an expansion of recall 14V-153 to cover additional vehicles built between April 1, 2006 and June 30, 2006.

May 14, 2014

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2004-2012 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured May 16, 2003, through October 11, 2012, 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, 2005-2010 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured May 26, 2004, through January 4, 2010, and 2007-2010 Saturn Aura vehicles manufactured April 24, 2006, through May 26, 2009. In the affected vehicles, increased resistance in the Body Control Module (BCM) connection may result in voltage fluctuations in the Brake Apply Sensor (BAS) circuit. These fluctuations can cause one or more of these conditions: the brake lights to illuminate without the brake pedal being pushed; the brake lights to not illuminate when the pedal is pushed; difficulty disengaging the cruise control; moving the gear shifter out of the 'PARK' position without pushing the brake; and disablement of crash avoidance features such as traction control, electronic stability control, and panic braking assist features.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Any of the above failure conditions increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will attach the wiring harness to the BCM with a spacer, apply dielectric lubricant to both the BCM and harness connector and the BAS and harness connector, and will relearn the brake pedal home position, free of charge. The manufacturer distributed an Interim letter to customers on July 14, 2014. The recall began on August 18, 2014. Owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), 1-800-762-2737 (Pontiac), 1-800-553-6000 (Saturn). GM's number for this recall is 13036.

14V224000 · Power Train:automatic Transmission; Power Train:automatic Transmission:lever And Linkage:floor Shift

Apr 30, 2014

General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on April 29, 2014, that they are recalling 56,214 model year 2007 and 2008 Saturn Aura vehicles. On May 22, 2014, GM increased the recall to include an additional 1,074,899 model year 2004-2008 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured from May 16, 2003, through October 5, 2007, model year 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured from June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, and model year 2005-2008 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured from May 26, 2004, through September 28, 2007, and equipped with 4-speed transmissions. The total number vehicles being recalled is now 1,131,113.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the transmission shift cable fractures while the vehicle is being driven, the transmission gear selection may not match the indicated gear and the vehicle may move in an unintended or unexpected direction, increasing the risk of a crash. Furthermore, when the driver goes to stop and park the vehicle, despite selecting the ‘PARK’ position, the transmission may not be in ‘PARK.’ If the vehicle is not in the "PARK" position there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and GM dealers will replace the shift cable assembly and mounting bracket, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-553-6000. GM's number for this recall is 14152.

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Exterior Lighting; Exterior Lighting:brake Lights; Exterior Lighting:tail Lights

On May 14, 2014 General Motors (GM) announced a recall action (14V-252) involving model year (MY) 2004-12 Chevrolet Malibu, MY 2004-07 Malibu Maxx, MY 2005-10 Pontiac G6 and MY 2007-10 Saturn Aura vehicles. An increased resistance can develop in the Body Control Module connection systems and result in voltage fluctuations in the Brake Apply Sensor (BAS, or brake light switch) circuit that can cause the brake lamps to malfunction. As a result, and according to GM, the brake lamps may illuminate when pedal application is not being applied or may not illuminate when pedal force is applied.Additionally, the cruise control may not engage or if it is engaged it may require increased pedal travel to disengage.Pedal application may not be required to move the shift lever out of PARK or additional travel may be required to move the shift lever out of PARK. Traction control, electronic stability control (ESC) and panic brake assist features may also become disabled. These failure conditions may increase the risk of a crash. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Engineering Analysis EA13-005 on June 6, 2013 to further investigate complaints alleging that the brake lights did not operate properly on MY 2005-08 Pontiac G6 vehicles. The BAS in these vehicles produces a single analog voltage output proportional to the brake pedal's position. The BAS signal is used by various systems to determine both pedal position and rate of displacement, so a failure or inaccuracy of the signal may affect multiple systems.ODI also received similar complaints on MY 2009 Pontiac G6, MY 2004-11 Chevrolet Malibu and MY 2007-09 Saturn Aura vehicles that use the same BAS.All of these above models were included in the subject vehicle population of ODI's Information Request (IR) letter to GM.Prior to the recall announcement date, ODI received 855 reports of brake light malfunction resulting in one or several of the failure conditions.Eight (8) of the reports alleged crashes, with 1 resulting in an injury. Of these crash allegations, 2 were roll-away incidents, in which the shift interlock was moved out of PARK without pedal application and the vehicle rolled into another object.Three (3) crashes involved rear-end hits, which were believed to be due to brake light reversal.ESC/Traction Control failures were the alleged cause of 2 incidents, which resulted in unresponsive brake application and in 1 case caused the vehicle to leave the roadway. One (1) crash allegation was not counted as the circumstances of the crash were not related to any of the failure modes.ODI notes that it is difficult to determine the actual cause of incidents where brake light reversal or ESC/Traction Control failures were the alleged cause. In response to ODI's IR, GM submitted 2,268 unique reports that related to brake lamp malfunction. Combined with the data submitted during Recall Query 13-001, a total of 4,664 unique complaints were submitted.Twelve (12) of the GM reports alleged a crash, with 2 reporting minor injuries and 4 alleging property damage.Of the 12 reports, 3 involved brake light reversal allegations, 4 involved roll-away incidents and 2 involved ESC/Traction Control malfunctions. ODI did not include three (3) reports that involved allegations inconsistent with the alleged defect. This investigation is closed on the basis of GM's announcement of safety recall 14V-252.The ODI complaints cited above can be reviewed at: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID, see the attached list for ODI numbers.

GM NOTIFIED THE AGENCY BY LETTER DATED JANUARY 28, 2009, THAT IT WILL CONDUCT A SAFETY RECALL OF PONTIAC G6 VEHICLES BUILT FROM JANUARY 3 THROUGH JANUARY 31, 2005.VEHICLES PRODUCED DURING THIS TIME PERIOD HAVE SHOWN A HIGHLY ELEVATED INCIDENT RATE OF IMPROPER OPERATION OF THE BRAKE LAMPS. ODI OPENED THIS INVESTIGATION AFTER RECEIVING REPORTS THAT CONSUMERS WOULD USE THEIR BRAKES AND DISCOVER THAT THE BRAKE LAMPS WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE.ALSO, CONSUMERS REPORT THAT THE BRAKE LAMPS WOULD ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS NOT APPLIED.ODI'S REVIEW OF THE COMPLAINT DATA FINDS THAT THE COMPLAINT RATE FOR THE JANUARY 2005 PRODUCTION IS 20 TIMES GREATER THAN FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE SUBJECT VEHICLE POPULATION.LIKEWISE, THE WARRANTY RATE FOR THE JANUARY 2005 PRODUCTION IS 11 TIMES GREATER THAN FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE SUBJECT VEHICLE POPULATION.IN ITS LETTER TO THE NHTSA, GENERAL MOTORS (GM) EXPLAINED THAT THE PRIMARY CAUSE OF THIS BRAKE CONDITION WAS FRETTING CORROSION (OXIDATION) OF THE CONNECTOR PINS ON THE BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) THAT CONNECT TO THE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL POSITION SENSOR (BPPS).THE CORROSION PREVENTS THE BCM FROM RECEIVING THE CORRECT SIGNAL VOLTAGE FROM THE BPPS.IN DECEMBER 2008, GM RELEASED TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (TSB) #08-05-22-009 TO PROVIDE TECHNICIANS THE CORRECT REPAIR PROCEDURES FOR SUBJECT VEHICLES THAT EXPERIENCE IMPROPER ILLUMINATION OF THE BRAKE LAMPS.THIS ACTION TAKEN BY GM IS SUFFICIENT TO RESOLVE THE ISSUES RAISED BY THIS INVESTIGATION.
