THEY TELL ME THAT THIS IS NOT A MFG DEFECT. MAYBE NOT BUT IT IS SURELY A HAZARD. THIS EFFECTS MY CRUISE CONTROL AND PREVENTS IT FROM WORKING BECAUSE THE BRAKE SWITCH STICKS AS IF THE BRAKE IS BEING USED. I HAD THE BRAKE SWITCH REPLACED ONCE BEFORE BUT IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN. IS THERE NOT SOME RECOURSE FOR THE REPAIR. THIS HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 7 TIMES OVER THE LAST 6 MONTHS. *TR

THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL ALSO JUST DISENGAGE WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD OR FAIL TO SET A SPEED WHEN TRYING TO SET. THERE IS A CURRENT RECALL ON THIS EXACT PROBLEM WITH CARS LIKE MINE. I PREVIOUSLY LEASED A 2005 PONTIAC G6, AND LOVED THE CAR VERY MUCH. THROUGH MY LEASE, I JUST HAD ONE ISSUE, WHICH WAS COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. SINCE THE RETURN OF THAT LEASE, I PURCHASED A 2006 G6 BECAUSE I REALLY ENJOYED THE CAR. HOWEVER, I AM NOW EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE WITH THIS CAR AS WELL. THE ISSUE IS REGARDING THE BRAKE LIGHTS. THE BRAKE LIGHTS WILL ILLUMINATE WITHOUT PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE DANGER OCCURS WHEN FELLOW DRIVERS ARE UNAWARE IF THE BRAKES ARE TRULY BEING PRESSED. WITH THE 2005, THIS PROBLEM PROGRESSED WHERE I ACTUALLY PRESSED THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD ACTUALLY GO OFF, WHICH WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. I ASSUME THAT SINCE I HAVE OWNED TWO CARS, AND BOTH HAVE NOW HAD THIS PROBLEM, THAT IT IS A WIDE-SPREAD ISSUE. SO, I CONDUCTED SOME RESEARCH, AND FOUND THAT APPEARS TO BE THE CASE. I FOUND INFORMATION REGARDING A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE ON SEVERAL WEBSITES, NOTING THAT THE RECALL BEGAN IN FEBRUARY OF 2009, AND ALSO PROVIDED INFORMATION TO CALL PONTIAC ABOUT IT. UPON CALLING THIS NUMBER, THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOUND REGARDING MY CAR. I FOUND IT TROUBLESOME THAT I FOUND RECALLS IN RESEARCH, BUT NOTHING WAS ISSUED THROUGH PONTIAC, SO I E-MAILED THEM ABOUT THE ISSUE ON 08/05/09. THEY RESPONDED WITH A PHONE CALL TO INFORM ME THERE WAS NO RECALL ON MY CAR. SINCE IT IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM, I HAVE BEEN WAITING SINCE FOR A RECALL; HOWEVER THERE HAS NOT BEEN ONE ISSUED AS OF YET, SO I AM HOPING THIS INFORMATION MIGHT HELP. SOME OF THE RECALL INFORMATION THAT I FOUND WAS AT THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS: HTTP://WWW.INTERNETAUTOGUIDE.COM/AUTO-RECALLS/09-INT/2006/PONTIAC/G6/INDEX.HTML (RECALL ID# 69074) HTTP://WWW-ODI.NHTSA.DOT.GOV/RECALLS/RESULTS.CFM (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V036000). *TR

FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF AND RIGHT TO A REPAIR SHOP BUT THIS IS AN EXTREMELY UNSAFE PROBLEM TO HAVE. I'VE BEGUN LOOKING INTO COMMON PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR AND IT SEEMS THERE ARE A FEW OTHER COMMON PROBLEMS THAT MAKE THIS CAR UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND GIVE IT A GUARANTEED EXPENSIVE REPAIR BILL. THE INTERIOR LIGHTS HAVE ALSO APPARENTLY SHORTED OUT AND I WILL NOW BE CHECKING FOR A COMMON PROBLEM I HAVE HEARD IN WHICH THE BRAKE LIGHTS MAY BE ON EVEN WHEN THE BRAKES ARE NOT BEING APPLIED DUE TO CORROSION OF A WIRE. THESE PROBLEMS ARE VERY SERIOUS AND COULD EASILY CAUSE ACCIDENTS, ESPECIALLY FOR A 20 YEAR OLD FIRST TIME CAR BUYER LIKE MYSELF. *TR

THE CRUISE CONTROL ALSO DIDN'T WORK. I SUBSEQUENTLY FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR 8012 PONTIAC G6S (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V036000) FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. FOR SOME REASON, MY 2006 G6 ISN'T ONE OF THOSE VEHICLES. I HAD TO PAY 254 DOLLARS AT A GM SERVICE CENTER TO HAVE THE PROBLEM REPAIRED. I'M CURIOUS WHY MY G6 ISN'T ALSO COVERED BY THE RECALL AS IT OBVIOUSLY SUFFERS FROM THE SAME '!@#$% DESIGN.. *TR

MY WIFE PURCHASED A 2006 PONTIAC G6 IN SEPT. 2007. 2 WEEKS AFTER WE PURCHASED THE CAR THE BRAKE LIGHTS DIDN'T WORK CORRECTLY. THEY WOULD EITHER COME ON AND STAY ON OR BLINK OFF AND ON WHILE DRIVING. WE'VE TAKEN THE CAR IN AT LEAST 9 TIMES AND THE PROBLEMS STILL EXIST. THIS ISSUE HAS BECOME A SAFETY HAZARD AND I'M WORRIED THAT SOMEONE WILL REAR-END US WHILE MY SON AND DAUGHTER ARE IN THE BACK SEAT. WE'VE CONTACTED GM TWICE NOW AND NOTHING SEEMS TO BE DONE. THEY REPLACED NUMEROUS PARTS AND NOTHING SEEMS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THERE ARE A NUMBER OF OTHER G6 OWNERS THAT ARE EXPERIENCING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. GM HAS ISSUED A RECALL, WHICH THEY APPLIED A LUBRICANT TO THE WIRING; THIS HAS NOT EVEN BEGAN TO SOLVE THIS ISSUE. TO ME THIS WAS THE LEAST EXPENSIVE RECALL THAT COULD BE ISSUED AND WAS ACCEPTED FOR SOME REASON. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE BEFORE THIS GETS OUT OF HAND. WHAT WILL IT TAKE FOR GM TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE POOR PRODUCT THEY PRODUCED? IT'S A NO WONDER WHY MORE CONSUMERS PURCHASE FOREIGN CARS OVER OUR OWN. WE DON'T STAND BEHIND OUR PRODUCTS. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. MY 2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND SON RIDE IN THE BACK SEAT OF THIS CAR. THEY ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO MY FAMILY. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED NOW. *TR

I DRIVE A 2006 PONTIAC G6 WITH A LITTLE MORE THAN 60,000 ON IT. IN THE LAST FEW WEEKS, MY BRAKE LIGHTS HAVE COME ON WITHOUT THE BRAKE PEDAL BEING PRESSED. THE LIGHTS STAY ON UNTIL I PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL, AT WHICH TIME THE BRAKE LIGHTS GO OFF. IT'S GOTTEN TO THE POINT THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON EVERY 5-6 SECONDS, AT WHICH TIME I HAVE TO PRESS THE PEDAL TO "RESET" THEM. THIS PROBLEM -- THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF WHAT BRAKE LIGHTS ARE DESIGNED TO DO -- HAS NEARLY CAUSED TWO ACCIDENTS. ON OCT. 19, 2009, I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT IT, AND WAS TOLD THAT THE SWAY BAR AND TIE RODS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I WAS TOLD THAT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. IT DIDN'T. I THEN WAS TOLD THAT MY BRAKES -- FRONT AND REAR-- NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ON OCT. 29, 2009, I REPLACED THE FRONT BRAKES BUT NOT THE REAR -- MY BRAKE MECHANIC SAID THE REAR BRAKES HAD AT LEAST 20,000 MILES LEFT ON THEM. NONE OF THESE REPAIRS FIXED THE PROBLEM (AND NONE OF THE OLD PARTS ARE AVAILABLE). THIS DID NOT SURPRISE ME, AS NONE OF THE REPAIRS HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH ELECTRICAL WIRING. HAVING DONE SOME RESEARCH, I FOUND THAT THERE IS A GM RECALL FOR MY VERY PROBLEM (RECALL # 09V036000). THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEB. 17, 2009. I CALLED PONTIAC ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD BY CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT BECAUSE MY VIN WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL, THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PROBLEM. I ASKED WHETHER IT WAS POSSIBLE THAT ANOTHER PONTIAC G6, NOT LISTED IN THE RECALL, COULD HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AS THOSE RECALLED. I WAS TOLD THAT WAS NOT POSSIBLE. THE ARROGANCE OF PONTIAC HAS BAFFLED AND UPSET ME, AND I AM TO THE POINT WHERE I HAVE CONTACTED LEGAL COUNSEL. IF I AM INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM, I COULD BE AT FAULT AND I CAN'T AFFORD A LAWSUIT. *TR

15V064000 · Steering:electric Power Assist System

Feb 4, 2015

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2006-2007 Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured April 1, 2006, to June 30, 2006, and 2006-2007 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured April 18, 2006, to June 30, 2006. In the affected vehicles, there may be a sudden loss of electric power steering (EPS) assist that could occur at any time while driving.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If power steering assist is lost, greater driver effort would be required to steer the vehicle at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the torque sensor assembly, free of charge. The recall began February 24, 2015. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737. GM's number for this recall is 14772. Note: This is an expansion of recall 14V-153 to cover additional vehicles built between April 1, 2006 and June 30, 2006.

May 14, 2014

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2004-2012 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured May 16, 2003, through October 11, 2012, 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, 2005-2010 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured May 26, 2004, through January 4, 2010, and 2007-2010 Saturn Aura vehicles manufactured April 24, 2006, through May 26, 2009. In the affected vehicles, increased resistance in the Body Control Module (BCM) connection may result in voltage fluctuations in the Brake Apply Sensor (BAS) circuit. These fluctuations can cause one or more of these conditions: the brake lights to illuminate without the brake pedal being pushed; the brake lights to not illuminate when the pedal is pushed; difficulty disengaging the cruise control; moving the gear shifter out of the 'PARK' position without pushing the brake; and disablement of crash avoidance features such as traction control, electronic stability control, and panic braking assist features.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: Any of the above failure conditions increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will attach the wiring harness to the BCM with a spacer, apply dielectric lubricant to both the BCM and harness connector and the BAS and harness connector, and will relearn the brake pedal home position, free of charge. The manufacturer distributed an Interim letter to customers on July 14, 2014. The recall began on August 18, 2014. Owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), 1-800-762-2737 (Pontiac), 1-800-553-6000 (Saturn). GM's number for this recall is 13036.

Apr 30, 2014

General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on April 29, 2014, that they are recalling 56,214 model year 2007 and 2008 Saturn Aura vehicles. On May 22, 2014, GM increased the recall to include an additional 1,074,899 model year 2004-2008 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles manufactured from May 16, 2003, through October 5, 2007, model year 2004-2007 Malibu Maxx vehicles manufactured from June 25, 2003, through April 5, 2007, and model year 2005-2008 Pontiac G6 vehicles manufactured from May 26, 2004, through September 28, 2007, and equipped with 4-speed transmissions. The total number vehicles being recalled is now 1,131,113.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: If the transmission shift cable fractures while the vehicle is being driven, the transmission gear selection may not match the indicated gear and the vehicle may move in an unintended or unexpected direction, increasing the risk of a crash. Furthermore, when the driver goes to stop and park the vehicle, despite selecting the ‘PARK’ position, the transmission may not be in ‘PARK.’ If the vehicle is not in the "PARK" position there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and GM dealers will replace the shift cable assembly and mounting bracket, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-553-6000. GM's number for this recall is 14152.

Remedy: GM will notify owners, and GM dealers will replace the shift cable assembly and mounting bracket, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-553-6000. GM's number for this recall is 14152.

Power Train:automatic Transmission

Jan 30, 2009

GM IS RECALLING 8,012 MY 2005-2006 PONTIAC G6 VEHICLES. THE BRAKE LAMPS MAY NOT OPERATE PROPERLY BECAUSE OF CORROSION IN A WIRING CONNECTOR. CORROSION IN THE CONNECTOR COULD CAUSE THE BRAKE LAMPS TO ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL HAS NOT BEEN DEPRESSED, OR THE LAMPS MAY NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. IN ADDITION, THE CRUISE CONTROL MAY NOT ENGAGE, AND GREATER BRAKE PEDAL FORCE MAY BE REQUIRED TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE OUT OF PARK.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: BRAKE LAMPS THAT ARE NOT OPERATING PROPERLY MAY NOT WARN A DRIVER IN A FOLLOWING VEHICLE OF THE BRAKING STATUS AND COULD LEAD TO A CRASH WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL APPLY A DIELECTRIC LUBRICANT TO THE CONNECTOR TO PREVENT CORROSION. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FOR YOU FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 17, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT PONTIAC AT 1- 800-620-7668 OR OWNER CENTER AT WWW.GMOWNERCENTER.COM.

06V417000 · Air Bags:frontal

Oct 31, 2006

CERTAIN VEHICLES ORIGINALLY BUILT WITH CLOTH SEATS THAT WERE EQUIPPED WITH AN AUTOMATIC AIR BAG PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM AND LATER REUPHOLSTERED WITH AFTERMARKET LEATHER SEAT COVER KITS ARE INVOLVED. TESTING HAS INDICATED THAT THE AFTERMARKET LEATHER SEAT COVERS CAN CAUSE THE PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM TO MALFUNCTION.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: IF THE PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONS, THE FRONT AIR BAG ON THE PASSENGER SIDE MAY BE DISABLED WHEN IT SHOULD BE ENABLED, OR ENABLED WHEN IT SHOULD BE DISABLED. IN EITHER CASE, IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH THAT REQUIRES AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT, A FRONT PASSENGER'S LEVEL OF INJURY MAY BE INCREASED.

Remedy: BECAUSE A REPLACEMENT LEATHER SEAT COVER THAT IS COMPATIBLE WITH THE PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM IS NOT AVAILABLE, GENERAL MOTORS (GM) WILL REPURCHASE THESE VEHICLES IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE TERMS STATED IN GM'S LETTER TO OWNERS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 6, 2006. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT GM AT 1-877-477-1022 TO BEGIN THE PROCESS OF REPURCHASING THEIR VEHICLE.

On May 14, 2014 General Motors (GM) announced a recall action (14V-252) involving model year (MY) 2004-12 Chevrolet Malibu, MY 2004-07 Malibu Maxx, MY 2005-10 Pontiac G6 and MY 2007-10 Saturn Aura vehicles. An increased resistance can develop in the Body Control Module connection systems and result in voltage fluctuations in the Brake Apply Sensor (BAS, or brake light switch) circuit that can cause the brake lamps to malfunction. As a result, and according to GM, the brake lamps may illuminate when pedal application is not being applied or may not illuminate when pedal force is applied.Additionally, the cruise control may not engage or if it is engaged it may require increased pedal travel to disengage.Pedal application may not be required to move the shift lever out of PARK or additional travel may be required to move the shift lever out of PARK. Traction control, electronic stability control (ESC) and panic brake assist features may also become disabled. These failure conditions may increase the risk of a crash. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Engineering Analysis EA13-005 on June 6, 2013 to further investigate complaints alleging that the brake lights did not operate properly on MY 2005-08 Pontiac G6 vehicles. The BAS in these vehicles produces a single analog voltage output proportional to the brake pedal's position. The BAS signal is used by various systems to determine both pedal position and rate of displacement, so a failure or inaccuracy of the signal may affect multiple systems.ODI also received similar complaints on MY 2009 Pontiac G6, MY 2004-11 Chevrolet Malibu and MY 2007-09 Saturn Aura vehicles that use the same BAS.All of these above models were included in the subject vehicle population of ODI's Information Request (IR) letter to GM.Prior to the recall announcement date, ODI received 855 reports of brake light malfunction resulting in one or several of the failure conditions.Eight (8) of the reports alleged crashes, with 1 resulting in an injury. Of these crash allegations, 2 were roll-away incidents, in which the shift interlock was moved out of PARK without pedal application and the vehicle rolled into another object.Three (3) crashes involved rear-end hits, which were believed to be due to brake light reversal.ESC/Traction Control failures were the alleged cause of 2 incidents, which resulted in unresponsive brake application and in 1 case caused the vehicle to leave the roadway. One (1) crash allegation was not counted as the circumstances of the crash were not related to any of the failure modes.ODI notes that it is difficult to determine the actual cause of incidents where brake light reversal or ESC/Traction Control failures were the alleged cause. In response to ODI's IR, GM submitted 2,268 unique reports that related to brake lamp malfunction. Combined with the data submitted during Recall Query 13-001, a total of 4,664 unique complaints were submitted.Twelve (12) of the GM reports alleged a crash, with 2 reporting minor injuries and 4 alleging property damage.Of the 12 reports, 3 involved brake light reversal allegations, 4 involved roll-away incidents and 2 involved ESC/Traction Control malfunctions. ODI did not include three (3) reports that involved allegations inconsistent with the alleged defect. This investigation is closed on the basis of GM's announcement of safety recall 14V-252.The ODI complaints cited above can be reviewed at: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID, see the attached list for ODI numbers.

GM HAS INDICATED THAT IT PLANS TO SEND LETTERS TO THE OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES TO INFORM THEM THAT IT WILL EXTEND THE WARRANTY COVERAGE FOR THE EPS SYSTEM IN THEIR VEHICLES TO 7 YEARS OR 70,000 MILES.STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF THE FAILURES IN THE POPULATION AFFECTED BY THE WIRING CRIMP PROBLEM INDICATE THAT THE PROBLEM IS AN EARLY LIFE FAILURE THAT SHOULD OCCUR WITHIN THE TERMS OF THE EXTENDED COVERAGE.GM'S INVESTIGATION OF EPS FAILURES IN THE SUBJECT VEHICLES IDENTIFIED A PROBLEM WITH THE CONNECTOR CRIMPS DURING THE TWO MONTH PRODUCTION RANGE COVERED BY THE WARRANTY EXTENSION.DURING THIS PERIOD THE CRIMPS MAY BE ASYMMETRICAL, RESULTING ININADEQUATE PRESSURE ON THE WIRE THAT CAN LEAD TO ELECTRICAL NOISE IN THE SIGNAL FROM THE SENSOR TO THE CONTROLLER.THE CONTROLLER MAY INTERPRET THIS ELECTRICAL NOISE AS A MALFUNCTION OF THE SYSTEM AND DEFAULT TO MANUAL MODE (I.E., TURN OFF THE EPS SYSTEM).IF THE POWER STEERING ASSIST IS LOST, THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER (DIC) DISPLAYS A POWER STEERING WARNING MESSAGE, A CHIME IS SOUNDED, ANDTHE SERVICE VEHICLE SOON LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE.IN MANUAL MODE THE STEERING REQUIRES INCREASED EFFORT, ESPECIALLY AT SPEEDS LESS THAN 20 MILES PER HOUR (MPH).ODI'S ANALYSIS OF THE FAILURE DATA SHOW THAT APPROXIMATELY 30 PERCENT OF THE COMPLAINTS AND FIELD REPORTS (569 OF 1913) INVOLVE VEHICLES BUILT IN THE RANGE COVERED BY GM'S EXTENDED POLICY, WHICH ACCOUNT FOR ONLY ABOUT 7 PERCENT OF THE SUBJECT VEHICLE POPULATION.THE COMPLAINT RATE FOR THE NON-PEAK MONTHS IS RELATIVELY HIGH, AT 673 PER 100,000 VEHICLES.THE RATE FOR THE PEAK MONTHS IS 5 TIMES HIGHER AT 3,645 PER 100,000 VEHICLES.SIMILAR DIFFERENCES ARE EVIDENT IN THE WARRANTY DATA, WITH APPROXIMATELY 27 PERCENT OF THE EPS WARRANTY CLAIMS (1120 OF 4145) INVOLVING VEHICLES BUILT IN THE PEAK MONTHS.THE WARRANTY RATE FOR THE NON-PEAK MONTHS IS 1.5% AND THE RATE FOR THE PEAK MONTHS IS 7.2%.ODI IDENTIFIED 9 CRASHES THAT ARE POTENTIALLY RELATED TO EPS SYSTEM FAILURE IN THE SUBJECT VEHICLES.THE CRASHES OCCURRED AT LOW SPEEDS, SUCH AS DRIVEWAY AND PARKING LOT TYPE MANEUVERS.THE CRASHES RESULTED IN ONE ALLEGED INJURY, BUT ODI WAS UNABLE TO OBTAIN INFORMATION ABOUT THE TYPE OR SEVERITY OF THE INJURY.NONE OF THE CRASHES INVOLVE VEHICLES BUILT IN THE TWO MONTH PERIOD COVERED BY GM'S EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE.THE SUBJECT VEHICLES USE THE SAME EPS SYSTEM AS THE MY 2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU VEHICLES INVESTIGATED BY ODI IN EA04-018.ALTHOUGH THE FAILURE RATES ARE HIGH IN THIS INVESTIGATION, PARTICULARLY FOR THE PEAK MONTHS, THEY ARE SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER THAN FOR THE MALIBU VEHICLES INVESTIGATED IN EA04-018.AS IN THOSE VEHICLES, THE EFFECTS ON STEERING EFFORT ARE SMALL AT SPEEDS GREATER THAN 15-20 MPH.ACCORDINGLY, THIS INVESTIGATION IS CLOSED. THE CLOSING OF THIS INVESTIGATION DOES NOT CONSTITUTE A FINDING BY NHTSA THAT A SAFETY-RELATED DEFECT DOES NOT EXIST. THE AGENCY WILL CONTINUE TO MONITOR COMPLAINTS AND INFORMATION RELATING TO THE ALLEGED DEFECT IN THE SUBJECT VEHICLES AND TAKE FURTHER ACTION IN THE FUTURE IF WARRANTED.
