Two defects are present simultaneously on the front passenger seating position of my 2024 Nissan Z. The passenger seat belt does not reliably latch. On several occasions the belt has released on its own while the vehicle was in motion, most frequently under hard cornering. On other occasions the belt appears fully latched but the seat belt warning light remains illuminated, indicating the buckle switch is not registering engagement. The passenger air bag status light indicates the front passenger air bag is turned off for occupants who should not trigger suppression. My [XXX], who is [XXX], and my [XXX], who is [XXX], both sit normally in the seat with no objects under or behind them. The air bag remains suppressed the majority of the time. It occasionally activates for a short period and then suppresses again on its own with no change in seating position or occupant weight. Because both failures affect the same seating position at the same time, a passenger in this vehicle can be left with neither a functioning seat belt nor a functioning air bag. The Nissan Z is a two-seat vehicle, so no alternate seating position exists. Nissan has issued prior recalls for occupant classification systems that misclassify adult passengers as children or classify an occupied seat as unoccupied, resulting in the passenger frontal air bag failing to deploy. I am reporting this so it can be evaluated against that failure mode. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
