AS I GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE, IT LURCHED FORWARD AND I ATTEMPTED TO GET BACK INTO THE VEHICLE TO APPLY THE BRAKE. IT LURCHED A SECOND TIME BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO GET INSIDE. I ATTEMPTED TO GET INSIDE THE VEHICLE A SECOND TIME TO APPLY THE BRAKE BUT WAS NOT ABLE TO DUE TO THE CAR LURCHING FORWARD AGAIN.. ON THE THIRD "LURCH" IT CONTINUED TO DRIVE FORWARD, HITTING MY MOTHER'S PARKED CAR AND PUSHING IT BACK APPROXIMATELY 3-4 FEET INTO THE BACK WALL OF HER CARPORT. FINALLY, THE ENGINE DIED AND I WAS ABLE TO RESTART IT, BACK IT AWAY FROM MY MOTHER'S CAR, AND ASSESS THE DAMAGE TO HER VEHICLE AND MY BODY. I PURCHASED THIS USED VEHICLE 12 DAYS AGO. *TR

I AM WRITING TO REPORT REPEATED PROBLEMS WITH MY VEHICLE, AN XTERRA 2010. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT RISK OF CRASH AND DAMAGE TO THE TRANSMISSION. THE PROBLEMS INCLUDE - SLOW ACCELERATION ON SURFACE STREETS AFTER LIGHT CHANGES ? THIS HAPPENS FREQUENTLY. - SLOW ACCELERATION WHEN ENTERING THE EXPRESSWAY, CAR SHIFTS GEARS SLOWLY ? THIS HAPPENS FREQUENTLY, - CAR FILLS WITH KEROSENE OR EXHAUST SMELL FOR A SHORT TIME, EVEN WHEN THERE ARE NO OTHER CARS AROUND ? THIS OCCURS OCCASIONALLY, - CAR REVVED UP FOLLOWED BY A SWEET SMELL (LIKE COOLANT/ANTIFREEZE) WHEN STANDING AT STOP LIGHTS ? THIS OCCURS OCCASIONALLY, AND - SIGNIFICANT VIBRATION. I HAVE REPORTED THE PROBLEMS WHEN CAR IS SERVICED. IMMEDIATELY AFTER PURCHASE AND FOR MORE THAN A YEAR I WAS TOLD THE ACCELERATION AND SHIFTING ISSUES WOULD SUBSIDE AFTER THE ENGINE ADJUSTED. DURING THE LAST SERVICE, THE VIBRATION ISSUE WAS ADDRESSED BUT THE OTHER ISSUES CONTINUE. I RECEIVED NOTICE OF A CLASS ACTION SUIT REGARDING XTERRA TRANSMISSION AND OTHER ISSUES. WHILE LOOKING INTO THE SUIT I DISCOVERED PROBLEMS WITH THE XTERRA ARE WIDESPREAD. I NEED YOUR ASSISTANCE TO CORRECT PROBLEMS WITH THE CAR ? PLEASE ADVISE OPTIONS AVAILABLE TO CORRECT ISSUES BEFORE THEY GET WORSE. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR ADVISE ON HOW TO PROCEED. *TR

I HAVE A 2010 NISSAN XTERRA I BOUGHT IN AUG 2010. I AM CONSTANTLY HAVING TO BRING IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS WITH SAME 3-4 ISSUES. IT NOW HAS APPRX 8000 MILES AND NEEDS A NEW SET OF TIRES WHICH NISSAN IS REFUSING TO CHANGE. THE GAS GAUGE IS CONSTANTLY NOT WORKING, DOES NOT READ PROPERLY, I FINALLY HAD TO PROVE IT TO THEM THIS PAST WEEK AFTER COMPLAINING NUMEROUS TIME AND HAVING THEM, REPLACE THE GAS SENSOR ONE . THE ENGINE HESITATES AT APPRX 40 MILES AN HOUR, ONE OF THESE DAYS I AM AFRAID I WILL BE HIT FROM BEHIND WHEN I STEP ON THE GAS AND IT DOES NOT GO. I AM DEALING WITH CORPORATE NISSAN BUT THE KEEP PUTTING ME OFF. I FEEL IT HAS BECOME A DANGER. THE DEALER SAYS ITS UP TO NISSAN, NISSAN SAYS ITS NOT THEM SO I AM STUCK WITH BAD TIRES ON MY NEW VEHICLE, THEY ARE GENERAL TIRES. THEY HAVE INDENTED DIMPLES, SIDE WALLS ARE WEARING OUT AND TREAD IS WEARING UNEVEN. THE FIRST SET WAS REPLACED AROUND 3000-4000 MILES. THE ENGINE HESITATION AND THE GAS SENSOR I AM CONSTANTLY GETTING EXCUSES FOR THOSE ISSUES. SO FAR THE TIRES HAVE BEEN REPLACED ONCE AND NEED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN I WAS TOLD NO, GAS SENSOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AGAIN THAT IS TO BE DONE POSSIBLY IN THE FUTURE. WHAT ABOUT MY ENGINE ISSUE. I FEEL LIKE I HAVE A POSSIBLE LEMON? MY TRUCK IS IN THE SHOP SO MUCH THE DEALERSHIP HAS A KEY TO IT. HOW DO I FIND OUT IF THOSE TIRES ARE SAFE TO DRIVE ON THEM? I CAN NOT HAVE MY LIFE AND THE PEOPLE WHO DRIVE WITH ME IN DANGER. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE SENSOR FOR THE GAS GAGE- THAT WAS REPLACED I STILL HAVE ISSUES. OBVIOUS THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE IF THEY REPLACED THE TIRES ONCE AND NOW 4000 MILES LATER THE NEW TIRES ARE BAD AGAIN. THE DEALERSHIP SAID I MIGHT WANT TO ROTATE THE TIRES EVERY 3000 MILES. ALL 4 TIRES HAD TO BE REPLACED AND ALL 4 TIRES ARE GOING BAD AGAIN. *TR

On February 29, 2012 the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) received a letter petitioning the agency to conduct a defect investigation into MY 2005-2010 Nissan Pathfinder, Frontier, and Xterra vehicles [the subject vehicles] for automatic transmission failures related to failed transmission coolers.NHTSA conducted a comprehensive review of data related to this subject. Our report, documenting this review, is available in the document file for this defect petition. It will also be published in the Federal Register. Of the 2,505 referenced complaints, 638 relate to a potential hazard (unable to maintain speed, no motive power, engine stall) and 1,867 concern customer satisfaction issues including, but not limited to, repair cost, vehicle shudder and shake, and engine overheating.Taking into account the allocation of agency resources and priorities and the likelihood that additional investigation would result in a finding that an unreasonable risk to highway safety exists, we conclude that further investigation is not warranted and deny the petition.ODI Complaint ID numbers are referenced on the next page.
