THE FUEL GAUGE DISPLAYED AN INACCURATE READING OF HALF FULL, AND THE FUEL TANK WAS CONSUMED TO THE FULL CAPACITY. ADDITIONALLY, THE FUEL GAUGE READING FLUCTUATED FROM FULL TO EMPTY. I HAVE A 2007 NISSAN EXTERRA AND THE FUEL GAUGE IS MALFUNCTIONING. I TOOK IT TO THE NISSAN DEALER LAST YEAR AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE FUEL SENDING UNIT WHICH WOULD COST 450.00 TO REPLACE.THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM BECOUSE I NEVER KNOW HOW MUCH GAS I HAVE IN MY FUEL TANK I NEED TO FUEL CONSTANLY.

THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V075000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: STORAGE, AUXILIARY TANK) THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED THE IDENTICAL FAILURES AS MENTIONED IN THE RECALL. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE FUEL SYSTEM AND THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE UNDER THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. I HAVE READ THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH MANY NISSAN XTERRAS FROM 2005-2008. A RECALL IS BECOMING ACTIVE FOR 2006 MODELS ONLY. THIS RECALL SHOULD BE FOR 2005-2008 MODELS AS I HAVE READ (ONLINE FORUMS) MANY VEHICLES IN THIS RANGE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THIS PART OR ARE IN NEED TO. THE REPLACEMENT PART THAT WAS INSTALLED INTO MY XTERRA IS STILL NOT ENTIRELY ACCURATE. WHEN THE GAUGE SHOWS 1/4 TANK OF FUEL IS LEFT AND I FILL UP, IT WILL TAKE 12-13 GALLONS ONLY. THE XTERRA FUEL TANK CAPACITY IS 21 GALLONS. THE REASON I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT IS TOM AKE YOUR ORGANIZATION AWARE THIS RECALL SHOULD BE REVIEWED AND EXPANDED TO ADDITIONAL MODEL YEARS. IT IS SOMEWHAT DISHEARTENING NISSAN IS WELL AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND NOT CORRECTING IT FOR THE ENTIRE AFFECTED CONSUMER BASE. MAYBE IF ONE OF THEIR EXECUTIVES WAS STUCK ON THE SIDE ON THE ROAD WITH THEIR INFANT CHILD AND OUT OF GAS WHEN THE GAUGE SAID 1/4 LEFT, THEY WOULD UNDERSTAND THE SEVERITY OF THE PROBLEM.

NISSAN IS RECALLING 242,720 MY 2005-2009 PATHFINDER, FRONTIER AND XTERRA VEHICLES ORIGINALLY SOLD IN OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN THE STATES OF CONNECTICUT, DELAWARE, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, IOWA, MAINE, MARYLAND, MASSACHUSETTS, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, VERMONT, WEST VIRGINIA, WISCONSIN, AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA. IN THOSE AREAS OF THE COUNTRY WHICH USE HEAVY CONCENTRATIONS OF ROAD SALT IN THE WINTER, A MIXTURE OF SNOW/WATER AND SALT CAN ENTER INTO THE FRONT CRASH ZONE SENSOR (CZS) HOUSING. IF THIS OCCURS, THE CZS MAY INTERNALLY RUST RESULTING IN A SIGNAL INTERRUPTION. IF THIS HAPPENS, THE RED AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE TO ALERT THE VEHICLE OPERATOR.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: THIS ISSUE COULD RESULT IN THE NON-DEPLOYMENT OF THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER FRONT AIR BAGS IN A CRASH, INCREASING THE RISK OF PERSONAL INJURY.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FRONT CZS WITH A REDESIGNED SENSOR. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JANUARY 26, 2009. OWNERS IN THE OTHER STATES WILL RECEIVE EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE FOR THE SENSOR TO 10 YEARS. THESE OWNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED OF THE WARRANTY EXTENSION BY MAIL AND WILL RECEIVE A STICKER TO PLACE IN THEIR WARRANTY BOOKLET EXPLAINING THE EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE.
