THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE FUEL SENSOR SENDING UNIT FOR 2006 XTERRA'S, BUT I WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR WAS NOT A PART OF THE RECALL BECAUSE MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I FEEL AS THOUGH THIS IS A MISTAKE, AND THAT NISSAN SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FIX OF THIS ISSUE. CLEARLY THIS IS AN ISSUE FOR OTHER CARS OF THE SAME YEAR, AND I DO NOT WANT TO BE LEFT WITH THE $500 FEE TO REPLACE THIS FAULTY UNIT. THE CODE OF MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT READS AS THIS AS THE PROBLEM. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT I CAN DO, I DO NOT WANT TO BE BULLIED BY NISSAN FOR THIS.

NISSAN SERVICE BULLETIN NTB07-069B CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON, RESULTING IN ME RUNNING OUT OF GAS IN TRAFFIC, THE LAST TIME INCHES AWAY FROM CAUSING AN ACCIDENT AS THE TRUCK COMPLETELY DIED WITHOUT WARNING WHILE I WAS IN MOTION ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY. CONTACTED NISSAN AND THEY TOLD ME MY TRUCK WAS NOT AFFECTED BY THIS RECALL, YET HERE I AM WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AS EVERYBODY ELSE WITH ONLY 60,000 MILES ON A 2006 VEHICLE. THEY ARE REFUSING TO HELP RESOLVE THE SITUATION AND INSIST I PAY TO HAVE THEM REPLACE A PART AND PAY LABOR TO REPLACE SUCH PART. I HAVE TAKEN VERY GOOD CARE OF THIS VEHICLE INCLUDING KEEPING IT LOW MILES. THERE IS NO REASON A "NORMAL" FSU SHOULD FAIL AFTER 60000 MILES. I AM NOW UNABLE TO RENEW MY REGISTRATION CAUSING ME AND MY FAMILY TO DRIVE AROUND ILLEGALLY AS THIS IS OUR ONLY TRANSPORTATION. WE ARE UNABLE TO AFFORD THE RIDICULOUS COST NISSAN HAS QUOTED US AND DON'T FEEL WE SHOULD HAVE TO PAY TO FIX AN OBVIOUS FAULTY PART. THEY SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS PART FAILING AND POSSIBLY CAUSING SERIOUS INJURY TO MY FAMILY OR ANOTHER FAMILY.

NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2004-2006 ARMADA, TITAN, INFINITI QX56 AND MODEL YEAR 2005-2006 FRONTIER, PATHFINDER AND XTERRA VEHICLES. THE INTELLIGENT POWER DISTRIBUTION MODULE (IPDM) ASSEMBLY CONTAINS AN ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) RELAY THAT HAS A DIODE FOR ELECTRICAL CURRENT NOISE REDUCTION. THE ECM RELAY MAY ALLOW SILICON VAPOR TO FORM AND, OVER TIME, THE SILICON EVAPORATES FROM THE DIODE MOLDING WHICH CAUSES SILICON OXIDE TO DEVELOP ON THE ECM RELAY CONTACT DUE TO ARCING.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: THIS COULD CAUSE ENGINE STALLING INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE ECM RELAY INSIDE THE IPDM ASSEMBLY. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 6, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.
