The contact owns a 2021 Nissan Titan. The contact stated that while driving at 40 MPH, another vehicle turned in front of their vehicle, causing the contact's front end to hit the other vehicle's passenger side. The air bags failed to deploy. Both vehicles had severe damage to the body of the vehicle. The contact received a concussion and needed medical assistance. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed but the final decision regarding it being totaled had not been decided. The vehicle had not been taken to the dealer and the cause of the air bags failing had not been diagnosed. The vehicle had not received any repairs. The dealer was contacted, and they were referred to the manufacturer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 77,000.
Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2021 and 2024 Titan vehicles. The Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) may be missing a spacer, which can allow the fastener to loosen and result in an unsecured ACU.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: An unsecured ACU can prevent or delay air bags from deploying as intended, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.
