It is XXX; but back in June time frame 2026 an engine recall was called for my 2024 Nissan Rouge. Dangerous to the point that car would shut down or burst into flame with not warnings WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE ON THE ROAD AND AT ALL SPEEDS - hgwy. Nissans consumer affairs division discussed this in chat rooms with owners of the year vehicles 2023 - 2025? effected that when the engine is replaced YOU MUST ADDRESS AND CHANGE OUT THE TRANSMISSION. The vehicle is built on VCT technology - variable compression technology??. The replacement engine is so robust and apparently stronger than OME - Original Manufacture Equipment that marrying it with the OME transmission in a short period of time the engine would destroy the trans. Today only a few short months later at 5 AM traveling on XXX at max speed the trans went into LIMP MODE. Limp mode is Nissan's reference terminology I took it to the dealership where I leased it - and changed out the engine and married the anticipated trans failure - it was only a matter of time - it FAILED, the vehicle lost power, steering failed the car from 71 mph quickly slowed would not go any further it dropped speed so fast it was almost hit from behind by a tractor trailer - Nissan's consumer affairs division full well knows of the combination repair issues and NOW the dealership I brought it to, scanned the truck confirmed my worst nightmare was true that after they replaced the engine on recall AND tried to tip-toe away from a trans replacement the engine destroyed the trans and my wife was in grave danger THEY EXPECT US TO PAY $ 2,200.00 TO REPLACE THE TRANS - THEY ARE REFUSING TO PAY FOR THE REPLACMENT CAUSED BY THEM IGNORING RESPONSIBILITY. WE WANT OUT OF THIS LEASE EXPUNGE THE LEASE AGREEMENT AND STEP BACK FROM DEMANDS OF EXCESSIVE $ FOR HIGH MILAGE TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK AND PUT US INTO A NEW VEHICLE - "LEMON LAW' RECALL NOT RECTIFIED AND LIVES ARE AT RISK - CONTACT ME PLEASE [XXX] ROB MONTY - URGENT!! At approximately 30,000 miles on this Nissan Rogue 2024 the vehicle flashed a 'low power mode - engine malfunction' code. The vehicle was brought to the dealer and they were unable to reproduce or find the code in the vehicle on board computer's memory. The same happened 2 or 3 more time over the next few weeks. Each time the vehicle cleared the code after being turned off and back on a few hours later. Vehicle was brought into owner's personal body shop and after deep retrieval methods codes were still not found. Code reappeared again and vehicle was brought to Nissan Bayside dealer again on or about July 29. Dynamic road test was done and codes were reproduced and sheared metal from pistons were found in the oils and other areas of the vehicle. Vehicle had long block replaced and vehicle was retrieved by owner on 8/18. On 8/19, a few hours after receiving the vehicle the same warning low power - engine malfunction code appeared again. An image is attached here. Vehicle will be returning to official dealer today for a 3rd time. Apparently there are 2 major issues: major engine malfunction and degrading is occurring and second the on board computer is erasing and spoliating all evidence of these codes once the vehicle is shut down and started again.

The vehicle suddenly lost motive power due to an engine/throttle control failure consistent with defects described in NHTSA Campaigns 26V081 and R25A8/R25A9/R25B1. It entered limp mode and became unable to accelerate. The vehicle is available for inspection. This created a safety risk because the vehicle was stranded in extreme heat for several hours with no access to water or shelter. I became overheated and physically distressed while waiting for assistance. Nissan would not tow the vehicle, so it sat overnight at a warehouse before eventually being transported to a dealership. A dealer confirmed the vehicle entered limp mode but did not complete the recall repair. The vehicle has now been at the dealership for four days without inspection, and I was told it should not have been towed there, so they will not prioritize it. The manufacturer cannot see the open recall because the dealer incorrectly marked it completed. Because the vehicle could not be driven and the defect has not been repaired, I was unable to travel to work and was terminated as a result. Warning lamps and messages appeared immediately before the failure, including reduced engine power and driver assist system unavailable.

Could not drive to a safe place The vehicle was in a highway danger zone.Until 30-40 minutes after would allow u to drive to a safe area. This is a big issue for the owners, feels like they are protecting the engine and the transmission for the dealership and forgetting the people in the vehicle for their safety. Running the risk of injuries or even death for the driver and passengers. They should allow drivability of vehicle. This rouge has on 18,000 miles

Subject: Formal Complaint and Denial of Recall Reimbursement – Nissan North America To Whom It May Concern, I am filing a formal complaint against Nissan North America for refusing to reimburse $6,703 in out-of-pocket expenses related to a failed VC-Turbo engine and a faulty electronic throttle body. These components failed on October 20, 2025, and are directly associated with active, ongoing safety recalls. Despite submitting a formal claim through Nissan Consumer Affairs and providing all necessary documentation, my request for reimbursement has been repeatedly denied. Nissan is failing to honor its regulatory obligation to cover costs for repairs involving known safety defects. I request that the NHTSA investigate this refusal to reimburse legitimate recall-related expenses. Thank you for your time and assistance in this matter. Nissan is breaking Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act in this matter. As they are purposely denying reimbursement on safety recall out of pocket repairs done. As nissan at the time of engine failure back on October 2025 refused to honor the recall repair & forced the customer to pay out of pocket for a failed manufacturing defect on Nissan vc turbo engine & Failed Nissan electric throttle body. All recalled manufacturing defects caused by Nissan. Were on October 2025 the engine on my 2024 nissan rogue cut off while driving with my family., with no warning & almost got us into a car accident. The cause was due to failed bearings in the vc turbo engine that nissan refused to fix that caused the vc turbo engine to fail and electric throttle body. All are recalls and serious safety defects. Nissan has been refusing to fix since 2025 in my matter and still till this day in 2026. $5, 700 out of pocket for Nissan vc turbo & $1,003 out of pocket for Nissan Electric throttle body. All failed due to Nissan manufacturer Defect. Safety recalls Nissan usa / Nissan assistant & Nissan consumer affairs. Are all refusing reimbursement on recalls

The vehicle experiences a severe loss of power, placing it into a reduced-power or limp mode that prevents the vehicle from exceeding approximately 10 mph. The issue has occurred repeatedly despite multiple repair attempts. The battery was replaced initially, after which the vehicle broke down while still at the dealership. The service department removed the new battery & reinstalled the original battery, at which point the vehicle temporarily operated normally. On a subsequent visit for the same reduced-power condition, the dealership replaced the throttle body chamber and multiple gaskets. This repair resolved the issue only for a short period of time. During a third service visit, I paid approximately $3,000 for additional repairs; however, the same issue occurred again, & I was unable to safely leave the dealership parking lot. The vehicle is currently available for inspection, testing, & servicing upon request. All prior inspections & repair attempts are documented in dealership service records. My safety & the safety of others were placed at significant risk because the vehicle unexpectedly loses power while being driven. The vehicle abruptly slows & cannot exceed 10 mph. This occurred while driving on the highway during heavy 5:00 p.m. traffic, as well as during normal roadway driving. A sudden and severe reduction in speed in traffic creates a high risk of rear-end collisions or other serious accidents, particularly if surrounding drivers are unable to react in time. Yes. The dealership where the vehicle was purchased is the same dealership that has serviced the vehicle on all three occasions. Each time, the dealership has inspected the vehicle and represented that the issue was repaired. However, the problem continues to occur immediately after service, including instances where the vehicle could not be driven out of the dealership parking lot. Any qualified service center test-driving the vehicle would be able to observe & reproduce. Yes check engine light

PE23023 · Complete Loss Of Motive Power Due To Engine Failure

Opened Dec 13, 2023 · Closed Jul 18, 2025

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Engine; Engine And Engine Cooling; Engine And Engine Cooling:engine:hard Parts Internal/mechanical

On December 13, 2023, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE23-023 to investigate allegations of engine failures leading to loss of motive power in model year (MY) 2021-2023 Nissan Rogue; MY 2019-2021 Nissan Altima; and MY 2019-2021 Infiniti QX50 vehicles. At that time, ODI had received 6 Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQ) and multiple early warning reports, with consumers reporting engine knocking noises accompanied by a loss of engine power while driving. The investigation identified bearing failures in certain vehicles equipped with the subject 3-cylinder 1.5L or 4-cylinder 2.0L variable compression turbo (VC-Turbo) engines. ODI also identified early warning reports describing thermal incidents that occurred immediately after the vehicle suffered a catastrophic engine failure.  The failures were the result of a manufacturing defect in specific engine bearings (main, A-, C-, and L-link) or other engine components that may cause engine damage and potentially lead to engine failure. Engine failure can result in a loss of motive power event that can increase the risk of a crash.  Engine failure might also result in a fire if internal components detach and impact the engine block creating a hole that allows engine oil to reach hot surfaces. In its April 2024, May 2024, and June 2025 responses to ODI’s information requests, Nissan provided 998 customer reports (including complaints, field reports, and legal claims) and 1,107 warranty claims related to the alleged defect.  When combining ODI and manufacturer report data, there are 1,878 unique VINs that have experienced failures across all subject vehicles.  In one of the early warning reports, ODI identified an incident involving a 2022 Infiniti QX55 that resulted in an engine fire following an alleged engine failure. The 2022 Infiniti QX55 was not included in the scope of this investigation but the vehicle model shares the same 4-cylinder 2.0L variable compression turbo engine.  Based on the information included with the early warning report, the fire can be directly related to the alleged defect.   A further review of ODI and manufacturer data, identified 12 allegations of engine compartment fires in subject vehicles; three were confirmed as directly related to the engine failure, and nine reports described an under-hood fire that occurred following a loss of power event. Additionally, ODI identified multiple reports describing an engine block crack or hole surrounded by oil residue following an engine failure. On June 27, 2025, Nissan submitted recall 25V-437 involving 443,899 MY 2021-2023 Nissan Rogue, MY 2019-2021 Nissan Altima; MY 2019-2021 Infiniti QX50; and 2022 Infiniti QX55 vehicles. The recall remedy provides the dealer instructions to inspect the engine oil pan for the presence of specific metal debris. For customers with the 3-cylinder 1.5L VC-Turbo engine, if no debris is detected during the inspection, dealers will replace the oil pan gasket, engine oil, and reprogram the vehicle’s Engine Control Module (ECM). For customers with the 4-cylinder 2.0L VC-Turbo engine, if no debris is detected, dealers will replace the engine oil. In the case where specific debris is detected and confirmed by Nissan Powertrain Call Center, dealers will be instructed to replace the engine. In addition, Nissan will extend the vehicle warranty to 10 years and 120,000 miles for the recall subject vehicle population after the dealer performs the inspection. Nissan has implemented multiple corrective actions to address the identified manufacturing defects of certain engine block internal components.  In view of the recall action (25V437) taken by Nissan, ODI is closing this Preliminary Evaluation. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the ODI reports cited in the Opening Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.

Engine And Engine Cooling
