on 1/26/26 while driving my car started shaking. I felt unsafe driving and had the car towed to the dealership. They inspected the vehicle and could not notice the shaking but did perform recall service NTB25-05 as well as some additional items on the routine maintenance schedule. They said the recall was just an ECM software update and all should be well. 5 1/2 weeks later while driving out of town, the car suddenly felt like it lost the ability to "shift gears" and could barely make it up hills in an area that was all hills often times with no shoulder to pull off. The engine malfuction light reduce power was on. The Nissan dealer inspected and said admission valve readings were out of spec (second throttle body) and replaced. About an hour after this repair was complete and the car was driven out of the dealership, it again felt like was losing power, couldnt climb hills and service cvt power reduced light was on. (We just had cvt fluid flushed and replaced on 1/26.) Dealer removed and replaced cvt control valve assembly. The car is still rough idling and I am concerned that it will lose power with no notice again while driving putting me and others at risk. I am concerned that the throttle body and cvt issues are connected to the original ECM recall especially since other rogues manufactured in a similar time are having throttle body issues and the fact that the codes related to the CVT issue can potentially be caused by metal shavings debris or even the ECM directly affecting the TCM and damage to the transmission.

My vehicle originally underwent an engine replacement performed by the dealership under a manufacturer recall. The engine was replaced at no cost to me. However, only two days after receiving the vehicle back from the dealership, the transmission failed. The dealership has since stated that they cannot determine whether the transmission was already failing or whether damage may have occurred during the engine replacement process. Specifically, they indicated there is uncertainty surrounding whether work performed during the engine installation may have contributed to a wiring harness melting, which may have affected transmission operation. Despite acknowledging that fault cannot be determined, Nissan Corporate has offered to cover only 50% of the transmission replacement cost, leaving me responsible for $3,112. This partial payment offer was communicated through Walker Jones Nissan. I do not believe it is reasonable for me to bear half of this expense under the circumstances for the following reasons: • The transmission failure occurred only two days after a major recall repair performed by the dealership. • Prior to the engine replacement, the vehicle was operating without transmission failure. • The dealership has admitted uncertainty as to whether their repair work contributed to the issue. • I have been without my vehicle for approximately two months while this situation remains unresolved. • During this time, I have continued making loan payments and maintaining insurance coverage despite having no use of the vehicle. Given the timing of the failure immediately following recall service and the dealership’s inability to rule out repair-related causes, I respectfully believe full coverage of the transmission repair is warranted as a matter of fairness and customer responsibility.

While on the highway, the vehicle felt sudden loss of power and a burning smell. Immediately took the next exit and entered a gas station where large volume of oil leaking under the vehicle. Exited the vehicle and called for a tow truck to bring the vehicle to the nearest auto shop who informed me that the engine was damaged internally similar to what’s described in the recall and informed me to have the vehicle towed to the nearest dealership for the recall repair. The dealership informed me that they are unable to perform the recall due to being unable to scan the diagnostic codes therefore cannot inspect the engine/oil pan as per the recall instructions - informed me that the engine needs to be replaced first and that I should contact Nissan Consumer Affairs for a good-will engine replacement approval. I contact Nissan Consumer Affairs and was informed that they will not be replacing the engine and cannot perform the recall until the engine is replaced; instead offered me 50% off the engine replacement cost.

On two separate occasions, my 2023 Nissan Rogue has experienced major loss of power while driving 80 mph. The first time, all of the dash lights were blinking and there was an awful noise coming from the engine. I could not drive over 10 mph. The vehicle had to be towed 200 miles to the nearest Nissan dealer in Billings, MT. They cleared the codes, test drove it and said everything was fine. The second time my vehicle had to be towed. 115 miles from the nearest Nissan dealer. Same issues, except this time there were no dash lights. Prior to all of this happening, my car had an open recall for the 1.5L VC-Turbo engine that my car has. Since the first time this occurred and Nissan "fixed" the problem, there has been no open recall. With the second occurance, Nissan had to replace the Throttle Actuator and Gaskets according to the invoice. Luckily, I had purchased my own extended warranty and that warranty covered $1,104.20 of the $1,204.20 (I paid $100 co-pay). I was charged $715 for towing from Nissan Roadside Assistance. The invoice claims the Nissan found the following diagnostic results: DTC P0507-00 Wwhich is directly linked to a fractured internal gear in the Electric Throttle Control Actuator, the subject of NHTSA Recall 26V081 and DTC P0196 which is directly linked to engine oil temperature performance, the precursor to engine bearing seizures addressed in NHTSA Recall 26V080. Nissan is currently excluding many 2023 models from the "official" recall list. My car has 67,350 miles on it, but this failure should be covered by Nissan's 10-year/120,000-mile extended powertrain warranty. The parts replaced (throttle actuator and gaskets) and the diagnostic codes are identical to those in the 2026 expanded recall populations. Denying coverage based on an "open recall" statis is a violation of the spirit of the NHTSA safety mandates for this engine. I am formally requesting/demanding reimbursment from Nissan North America for the $815 that I have been charged.

On 2/14/26 my car decelerated on the interstate. No warning lights came on. I parked the car and had it towed the next day to the dealership. Several days later they told me I needed a new engine, and then later told me that Nissan would not replace the engine but told them I need the EGR Cooling System replaced and that would resolve my problem. 3 weeks later I picked up my car ($3722) and immediately upon driving it off the lot the car started smoking. Once home, it decelerated again prompting another tow back to the dealership on the same day I picked it up. During that time, dashboard and engine lights came on. 3 days later I received a phone call from the dealership stating I need a new EGR sensor which should have been done the first time but was not (by a less experienced mechanic), for free, and the part would be in tomorrow 3/12/26. He also stated that now the car is running extremely rough and knocking (which I told him has not been our experience at all and I did not know what he was talking about). He then went on to say it needs motor mounts now. That was 2 weeks ago. Since then I have called multiple times to get status updates on my car and no one will return my call. My car has now been there for 40 days as of today. I have been given a 120,000 mile warranty extension on my engine per Nissan, but Nissan refuses to fix it and my car is not listed as part of the new recall, which I do not understand at all. Nissan needs to replace my engine as first diagnosed but reneged on.

PE24020 · 2021 Nissan Rogue Inner Tie Rod Failures

Opened Aug 5, 2024 · Closed Aug 24, 2026

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Steering:linkages:tie Rod Assembly

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this investigation to assess allegations of tie rod bending, deformation, or related steering linkage damage in certain 2021 Nissan Rogue vehicles. A bent tie rod can affect wheel alignment and steering geometry, and in some circumstances may result in steering pull, abnormal tire wear, reduced steering precision, difficulty maintaining directional control, or loss of vehicle steering control, increasing the risk of a crash. ODI reviewed Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs), Early Warning Reporting data, manufacturer field reports, warranty claims, consumer complaints submitted to the manufacturer, and other information provided by Nissan in response to ODI’s information request. ODI also evaluated the reported failure circumstances, vehicle age and mileage, incident severity, and whether the available evidence indicated a defect trend occurring in the absence of external impact or other non-defect causes. Based on the information reviewed, ODI identified a low number of tie rod bending or deformation allegations relative to the subject vehicle population and exposure. The available reports did not indicate a consistent failure pattern, common production period, common mileage, or repeatable failure mode suggestive of a safety-related defect. Many of the reviewed incidents involved circumstances consistent with external loading or impact-related damage, including pothole strikes, curb contact, road debris impacts, prior collision damage, or other abnormal steering/suspension loads. ODI’s analysis did not identify a trend of tie rod bending occurring during normal vehicle operation without evidence of external influence. The complaint and warranty rates were low, and ODI did not identify a pattern of crashes, injuries, or loss-of-control events attributable to a tie rod defect in the subject vehicles. Accordingly, this investigation is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. The agency reserves the right to take further action if warranted by new circumstances or additional information. To review the ODI reports cited in the Closing Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.

PE23023 · Complete Loss Of Motive Power Due To Engine Failure

Opened Dec 13, 2023 · Closed Jul 18, 2025

Status: closed (inferred from source dates) · Engine; Engine And Engine Cooling; Engine And Engine Cooling:engine:hard Parts Internal/mechanical

On December 13, 2023, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened PE23-023 to investigate allegations of engine failures leading to loss of motive power in model year (MY) 2021-2023 Nissan Rogue; MY 2019-2021 Nissan Altima; and MY 2019-2021 Infiniti QX50 vehicles. At that time, ODI had received 6 Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQ) and multiple early warning reports, with consumers reporting engine knocking noises accompanied by a loss of engine power while driving. The investigation identified bearing failures in certain vehicles equipped with the subject 3-cylinder 1.5L or 4-cylinder 2.0L variable compression turbo (VC-Turbo) engines. ODI also identified early warning reports describing thermal incidents that occurred immediately after the vehicle suffered a catastrophic engine failure.  The failures were the result of a manufacturing defect in specific engine bearings (main, A-, C-, and L-link) or other engine components that may cause engine damage and potentially lead to engine failure. Engine failure can result in a loss of motive power event that can increase the risk of a crash.  Engine failure might also result in a fire if internal components detach and impact the engine block creating a hole that allows engine oil to reach hot surfaces. In its April 2024, May 2024, and June 2025 responses to ODI’s information requests, Nissan provided 998 customer reports (including complaints, field reports, and legal claims) and 1,107 warranty claims related to the alleged defect.  When combining ODI and manufacturer report data, there are 1,878 unique VINs that have experienced failures across all subject vehicles.  In one of the early warning reports, ODI identified an incident involving a 2022 Infiniti QX55 that resulted in an engine fire following an alleged engine failure. The 2022 Infiniti QX55 was not included in the scope of this investigation but the vehicle model shares the same 4-cylinder 2.0L variable compression turbo engine.  Based on the information included with the early warning report, the fire can be directly related to the alleged defect.   A further review of ODI and manufacturer data, identified 12 allegations of engine compartment fires in subject vehicles; three were confirmed as directly related to the engine failure, and nine reports described an under-hood fire that occurred following a loss of power event. Additionally, ODI identified multiple reports describing an engine block crack or hole surrounded by oil residue following an engine failure. On June 27, 2025, Nissan submitted recall 25V-437 involving 443,899 MY 2021-2023 Nissan Rogue, MY 2019-2021 Nissan Altima; MY 2019-2021 Infiniti QX50; and 2022 Infiniti QX55 vehicles. The recall remedy provides the dealer instructions to inspect the engine oil pan for the presence of specific metal debris. For customers with the 3-cylinder 1.5L VC-Turbo engine, if no debris is detected during the inspection, dealers will replace the oil pan gasket, engine oil, and reprogram the vehicle’s Engine Control Module (ECM). For customers with the 4-cylinder 2.0L VC-Turbo engine, if no debris is detected, dealers will replace the engine oil. In the case where specific debris is detected and confirmed by Nissan Powertrain Call Center, dealers will be instructed to replace the engine. In addition, Nissan will extend the vehicle warranty to 10 years and 120,000 miles for the recall subject vehicle population after the dealer performs the inspection. Nissan has implemented multiple corrective actions to address the identified manufacturing defects of certain engine block internal components.  In view of the recall action (25V437) taken by Nissan, ODI is closing this Preliminary Evaluation. The agency reserves the right to take additional action if warranted by future circumstances. To review the ODI reports cited in the Opening Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
