2009 Nissan Rogue

This winter a crack in the seal opened up on the driver's side wheel well. We were not aware of the crack. We noticed that the car was collecting water in the carpets down on the floor board. The water became increasingly worse over time down on the floor of the car. We tried looking for leaks and drying out the car with towels. We could not find the leaks. We tried to dry the car out as much as possible, yet, every time my soon drove the car to school at Everett Washington Community College the water became increasingly worse down on the floor of the car. So, my son stopped driving the car for a couple of months. So, I bought the car from my son. He got a different car. I tried to start the car last Sunday at 3pm in the afternoon. Flames started down on the carpet directly below the pedals. Black, dark smoke billowed out from below the steering column. I ran into my kitchen to put out the flames. The battery is damaged too. The battery is leaking acid out of the side and bulging on one side. I took it to the dealership. To see if it could be repaired.

A vehicle was purchased from Pristine Auto Sales in Hopkinsville, KY. Following the purchase, the vehicle was inspected by a licensed mechanic and he reported the following, "I/We ("Licensed Mechanic Shop") inspected "Owner's" 2009 Nissan Rogue vin# XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX today due to her hearing grinding when applying her brake to stop and the vehicle is pulling to the left when applying the brake to stop. I also noticed the airbag light is on as well. Upon inspection the brake pads, the pads in the rear of the vehicle are metal to metal (on the inside) and the front pads are 1mm thick. According to NHTSA vehicles should not be on the road or even be sold from a dealer with brake pads any thinner than 3mm. It is a MAJOR safety concern as it will cause an accident. Also, after inspecting why the airbag light was on, it is found that one or more of the occupant sensors are defective and therefor causing the airbag system to be disabled. In the event of an accident the airbag system will not work. It is also against NHTSA for a vehicle to be sold with a defective Safety system such as Airbag system." The issues were present upon purchase. The purchaser is not knowledgeable about vehicles. Given that the vehicle was sold with the safety concerns already present, it appears that this auto sale business is not in compliance with NHTSA and mechanic has spoken with the business and they were unwilling to cooperate to ensure repairs were made on vehicle.

I WAS HIGHWAY DRIVING FOR 40 MILES WHEN MY NISSAN ROGUE STARTED TO GET LOOSE AND MAKE AN ODD NOISE WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES. THE RODE WAS DAMP IN PLACES, BUT NOT ENOUGH TO ENGAGE THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES. TRAVELING ON, IT WOULD OCCASIONALLY REPEAT THE NOISE AND WOBBLE. 60 MILES INTO THE TRIP, I WAS TRAVELING 55 MPH AND NOT APPLYING THE BRAKES WHEN THE STEERING GOT EXTREMELY WOBBLY AND I HAD LITTLE CONTROL OVER THE CAR. IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO EVEN PULL OVER. ONCE I GOT IT STOPPED, I CALLED FOR A TOW TRUCK AND HAD TO PULL UP TO READ A ROAD SIGN AND THE STEERING WAS STILL WOBBLY JUST PULLING FORWARD. IT WAS TOWED TO THE NEARBY NISSAN DEALER WHO WORKED ON IT FOR OVER 3 HOURS AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I ASKED IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS OR PROBLEMS WITH THIS MODEL AND WAS TOLD, "NO." *TR

ONE DAY, THERE WERE NO ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE. THE FOLLOWING DAY, WHEN ATTEMPTING TO DRIVE, THE CAR EXHIBITED EXTREMELY POOR ACCELERATION FROM A STOP (I.E. STARTING A CAR IN 4TH GEAR). THE CAR WOULD VERY SLOWLY ACCELERATE TO ~25MPH, THEN BEGIN TO PERFORM BETTER. CLEARING AN INTERSECTION FROM A STOPPED POSITION TOOK UP TO 5-10S LONGER THAN IT SHOULD HAVE. ALSO DETERMINED THAT THE CAR NO LONGER HAD FUNCTIONING BREAK LIGHTS. CAR WAS NOT SAFELY USABLE. SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL, BASED ON INTERNET SEARCHES. THE DEALER CLAIMED INITIALLY TO HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE AT ALL OF THIS ISSUE. DEALER REPLACED BRAKE PEDAL SWITCH AND PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED. REPAIR WAS NOT DONE UNDER WARRANTY, BUT WAS DONE UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY, SO I STILL HAD TO PAY TO HAVE THIS KNOWN, SAFETY CRITICAL ISSUE REPAIRED. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN ROGUE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES WERE WEARING PREMATURELY. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT SHE HAD TO REPLACED THE BRAKES EVERY 10,000 MILES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS NORMAL AND THE VEHICLE WAS PERFORMING TO SPECIFICATIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 44,000.
