MY SON WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND RAN INTO THE BACK OF A BOAT TRAILER. SPEED AT IMPACT WAS APPROXIMATELY 30MPH. THE VEHICLE HE HIT DID NOT STOP, WE SUSPECT HE DIDN'T EVEN REALIZE HE HAD BEEN HIT AND PROBABLY THOUGHT HE JUST HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD OR SOMETHING. THE VEHICLE SUFFERED FRONT END DAMAGE TYPICAL OF A 30MPH CRASH. WHAT IS VERY UPSETTING IS THAT THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE AND BURNT UP. DESPITE THE FACT THE SEVERAL TRUCK DRIVERS STOPPED TO ASSIST AND EMPTIED 4 EXTINGUISHERS ON THE FIRE, IT WASN'T ENOUGH TO PUT IT OUT. ON TOP OF ALL OF THAT NEITHER AIRBAG, DRIVER SIDE OR PASSENGER SIDE DID NOT DEPLOY DESPITE A DIRECT FRONT ON IMPACT. NEEDLESS TO SAY I AM VERY UPSET WITH THE MANUFACTURER. A 30MPH COLLISION SHOULD NOT RESULT IN A TOTALED VEHICLE.*AK

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MINI VANS. THESE VEHICLES MAY HAVE THE PLASTIC TRIM COVER AROUND THE BASE OF THE FRONT SEAT SAFETY BELT BUCKLE TRAPPED BETWEEN THE SHOULDER OF THE RESTRAINT ANCHORAGE BOLT AND THE SEAT PEDESTAL. THIS COULD EVENTUALLY ALLOW THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE BOLT TO LOOSEN.
Consequence & remedy
Consequence: IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, THE OCCUPANT SEATED IN THAT LOCATION MAY NOT BE ADEQUATELY RESTRAINED, INCREASING THE RISK OF PERSONAL INJURY.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE ASSEMBLY ATTACHMENT. SOME BELT BUCKLE ASSEMBLIES MAY REQUIRE REPLACEMENT.
