I remember this doing same sort of thing before Allen web supposedly replaced my transmission as it was one of millions that are faulty as is one they put in 2018 only has 18,000 miles on tbis supposed replaced transmission & it’s in a mechanic shop as I write this a waiting on hopefully Nissan paying for this faulty transmission. I shouldn’t have to buy one when it’s only got 18,000 miles on it. I’ve almost been rear ended due to This ongoing problem. People behind me are ready to go when light turns green. I floor my gas pedal & it does nothing . Have to Hurry put my flashers on pray to God no one hits me & flag everyone to go around. I turn car off put I park first of course , wait few seconds & sometimes it thankfully goes into gear & i baby it rest of way as I don’t want to make it worse by flooring my gas pedal. I’m very careful & pray I make it rest my way to work or home whichever the case . I barely made it to work other day. My friend thankfully had my Nissan Cube towed to a shop as it turns out it in fact had all same codes as before they supposedly put newer one in P1778 p0868 P0725, p0746 & so on transmission CVT TRANSMISSION FAILURE! $2,935 plus other huge problem totaling $4,431 ! I definitely shouldn’t have to be dealing with any of this again!! I don’t drive far to work, had surgery as well so didn’t drive many places for a bit this is why only gone 18,000 miles in 4 years. I called auto mall Nissan & asked about my warranty they told me it’s expired! For only 18,000 miles put in it that’s ridiculous! Hwy robbery! Talk about a lemon again. Could of been smashed up by a truck being behind me a lot of things could of happened endangering myself as well as drivers behind me & behind those people. Plus dangerous being on side of road waiting to see if it’s gonna go into gear again or not! I understand things wear out but this transmission should be good thousands of miles!

I WAS TOLD THEN THAT NISSAN HAD CREATED A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM TO DEAL WITH THE CVT FAILURE; OF WHICH I WAS NEVER INFORMED BY NISSAN. EVEN THOUGH I CONTINUE TO RECEIVE EMAILS AND ADS FOR THE COMPANY. THE LETTER FROM NISSAN STATES THAT THE WARRANTY ON THE CVT WILL BE EXTENDED. "FIRST TO PROVIDE YOU WITH ADDITIONAL ASSURANCE REGARDING YOUR OVERALL COST OF OWNERSHIP WE HAVE DOUBLED THE WARRANTY PERIOD FOR THE CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION IN YOUR NISSAN.: IT ALSO STATES "10 YEARS/120,000 MILES, WHICHEVER COMES FIRST." MY NISSAN CUBE IS CURRENTLY SEVEN YEARS OLD. I HAVE OVER 128,000 MILES. I NEVER RECEIVED A COPY OF THIS LETTER. I PURCHASED THIS CAR IN FEBRUARY 2010 AND THIS LETTER STATES THE END OF THIS REIMBURSEMENT PROGRAM ENDED 7/31/2010! WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR ME? MY CAR IS NOT 10 YEARS OLD! THE CVT TRANSMISSIONS IN THE 2009 AND 2010 CUBES ARE KNOWN TO BE DEFECTIVE. I HAD MINE REPLACED IN FEBRUARY OF 2015 AND IN MAY 2016, 15 MONTHS LATER, IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. NISSAN EXTENDED THE WARRANTY BUT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION. SINCE I AM NOW OVER THE MILEAGE LIMIT FOR THEM REPLACING IT I AM STUCK PAYING $4000.00 FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION THAT WILL ONLY BE UNDER WARRANTY FOR 12 MONTHS OR 12,000 MILES. THE PROBLEM STARTS WITH SURGES IN THE RPM'S AFTER THAT THE CAR WILL NOT GO FORWARD AFTER COMING TO A STOP UNLESS YOU TURN THE CAR OFF THEN BACK ON. EVEN AFTER THAT IT WILL DO IT EVERY TIME YOU COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN TRYING TO GO THROUGH A BUSY INTERSECTION. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE BBB BUT WAS TOLD THEY COULDN'T HELP ME. I AM ATTACHING THE FILES SHOWING MY REPAIR AND DIAGNOSTIC. I AM ALSO ATTACHING COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER CUBE OWNERS.

Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2009-2010 Cube vehicles. The driver’s air bag inflator may rupture or detach from the steering wheel during air bag deployment.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: A driver's air bag that ruptures or detaches can strike the driver or other occupants, increasing the risk of injury during a crash.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect the front air bag inflator serial number, and replace the inflator as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 9, 2026. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 800-647-7261. Nissan's number for this recall is R26A1. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning April 14, 2026.

NISSAN IS RECALLING MODEL YEAR 2009-2010 NISSAN CUBE VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM JANUARY 30, 2009 THROUGH JULY 30, 2010. THESE VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 301, "FUEL SYSTEM INTEGRITY." WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS ROTATED FOLLOWING A REAR MOVING BARRIER CRASH TEST AS REQUIRED, THE AMOUNT OF FUEL LEAKAGE EXCEEDED THE ALLOWABLE LIMITS.

Consequence & remedy

Consequence: FUEL LEAKAGE, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL DEVELOP A SPECIAL PROTECTOR AND ATTACH IT TO THE GASOLINE RECIRCULATION TUBE AT THE LOCATION OF THE FILLER NECK CONNECTOR. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 13, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened Preliminary Evaluation PE25005 on June 13, 2025, to assess the scope, root cause, and potential defect in 2009 Model Year (MY) Nissan Cube vehicles equipped with Takata PSDI-X air bag inflators.At the time the investigation was opened, analysis by Nissan and Takata (now New Leaf LLC) indicated that a rupture occurred at a weld point between the inflator cap and housing in a 2009 MY Nissan Cube.Nissan ruled out the propellant degradation root cause characteristic of the larger, well known, Takata recall, and instead identified a welding root cause. On April 9, 2026, Nissan North America, Inc. submitted a Part 573 Safety Recall Report to address the weld defect.Recall 26V230 includes the 28,388 2009 MY vehicles identified in the opening resume for this investigation and expands the population to include 2010 MY Nissan Cube vehicles for a total population of 47,928 vehicles produced between October 10, 2008, and September 25, 2010.Nissan identified the driver’s front air bag inflator (Takata PSDI-X, Part Number 98560-7991C) produced by TK Services Inc. within a specific lot may contain an improper body weld seal to the inflator base. This improper weld can cause the air bag module to detach from the steering wheel during deployment, increasing the risk of injury to the occupant in the event of a crash. Dealers will inspect the serial number on the driver’s air bag inflator in recalled vehicles to identify the air bag inflator lot. If the inflator is part of the affected lot, the dealer will remove and replace it with a new inflator manufactured by a different supplier. This repair will be performed free of charge. From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- Takata (now known as TK Global), the Independent Testing Coalition, and Exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of Takata desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004L (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004L is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L.The Office of Defects Investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated PSAN frontal inflators manufactured by Takata. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- Takata (now known as TK Global), the Independent Testing Coalition, and Exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of Takata desiccated PSAN inflators using propellant 2004L (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004L is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004L.The Office of Defects Investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated PSAN frontal inflators manufactured by Takata. This investigation will require extensive information on Takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated PSAN inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.gov/recalls?nhtsaId=EA21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds).
